Caleb, the Alpha's kid, was a bit younger than I was. I didn't see him very much because he was being homeschooled as part of his training to become Alpha. However, I had issue with my mother's repeated hints that she saw the two of us as friends even if I didn't actually mind him.
Teenage years are when werewolves change. I hadn't Shifted yet, which wasn't unusual, but my brother and both of my parents had done so in their early teens. I had not Shifted even though I was sixteen. I was the smallest child in the family once more.
My mother was certain that Caleb and I were mates despite the fact that Caleb hadn't Shifted yet either but could at any moment. My mother was preoccupied with the idea that I would someday become the pack's Luna since an Alpha could only ever date another Alpha or a Beta. There is nothing worse that comes to mind.
Caleb walked to stand next to me and grinned at me. His father started talking about the planned visit from an Alpha of another Pack as I returned his smile. The Equinox Pack, the biggest Pack in the nation, was led by Alpha Levi Ethan. I was very sure that we wouldn't back Alpha Ethan in the current War he was engaged in, but he requested assistance from our Alpha. As a peaceful Pack, we made an effort to avoid altercations.
But everyone in the Pack was on edge. Although conflicts between wolf packs were uncommon, when they did happen, they were violent. If the conflict was significant enough, they may wreak havoc and kill everyone in the packs. Additionally, I was very certain that this war would be disastrous based on how my father had described the impending conflict. I struggled with listening to stuff I didn't care about, so I didn't even know what it was about.
Alpha Ethan is scheduled to arrive tomorrow night. "I know it is uncomfortable for everyone, having unknown Wolves in the Pack," Alpha Parker said to the pack. But he is here to speak for all the other Packs engaged in the impending conflict with Alpha Deeds. Although we haven't decided on a side just yet, the way things are going, we won't have an option but to join.
The Pack was buzzing with anxiety and excitement. Because it was a war, people were both anxious and enthusiastic. Werewolves had an odd way of being; they were scared of dying because they were so proud, but eager to kill and fight people for their pride. Even I struggled to understand it.
Alpha Parker then said, "However, I will not make any decisions without first consulting Howard, Joel, and Kelly," referring to my father, the third in command, and the current Luna. However, with reference to this visit, I require everyone to be inside their homes by 8:00 p.m., unless they are on patrol, working in the dungeons, or have previously spoken to me and have received my permission to be exempt from curfew. However, beginning of tonight, there is an eight-hour curfew that the entire Pack must adhere to or face punishment.
The Pack exchanged anxious eyes when there was a brief pause. "That's it for now. I anticipate having everyone home by eight o'clock tonight. You have been fired.
I figured that I had enough time to make a quick trip to the skatepark because my brother had vanished to do god knows what, and my parents had to stay behind to speak with the Alpha. "Hey, you losers, are we going skating or what?" I questioned my pals.
Chris, Dom, and Jared all turned to look at me. Dom scowled, "You heard the Alpha, May, we have a curfew now.
I rolled my eyes at him and said, "Don't be a pussy, Dom," to the amusement of the other boys.
Dom retorted, "Hey, I'm not a pussy, but some of us aren't the Beta's daughter."
Chris retaliated, "That just means she's going to get in more trouble, not less idiot," Together with Chris, I pump my fist as we make fun of Dom. Dom narrowed his eyes at us and nearly turned as red as his hair.
Okay, let's leave. He finally gave in and said, "But I'm not staying for long. Before going to the skatepark, the lads and I laughed at him. As usual, Jared had a spare board in his car, so we first stopped there so I could get it. After that, we traveled the ten minutes to the closest skatepark.
Jared pointed to a group of teenage boys hanging out on one of the ramps and said, "Oh no, looks who's here.
"Great, just what I need," I moaned. Three older males who attended my school and had bullied my friends and I since we were approximately twelve years old were sitting on one of the ramps. They teased me the most because I was the only girl at my school when they came. We were unable to accomplish anything until one of my friends' groups Shifted, and I couldn't wait to finally bash their asses.
The main jerk, Todd, sneered as he saw us, "Ah look who it is, Marty." They all came over to talk to us. Twin brothers Marty and Todd were as cruel as they were ugly. They socialized with Josh and Mac, two other guys.
Marty joked with his brother and friends, "It's the bum fun gang."
Josh jaunted at us, "The guys all stick their dicks up each other's ass's while they're dyke friend watches." I had my fists clinched at my sides, but I kept quiet since I was tired of these jerks beating me up. I had considered notifying my parents, but I quickly changed my mind after my brother witnessed the men harassing me and joined in their laughter.
All I had to do was wait till I shifted so I could beat the living crap out of them by myself.
Jared murmured, "We just came to skate," in irritation. I took a quick look at my friends and realized we were all losers. We were outcasts in the truest sense of the word; we were all crazy about comic books and science fiction television, and we all earned good marks, with the exception of myself. However, despite the fact that we were all werewolves, we were essentially losers. Since we were all bullied, no one was ever surprised to learn of it.
"What did you say, four-eyes?" Todd commanded while gently pushing Jared backward. I exhaled deeply to calm myself as I considered how to escape this predicament. All I wanted was to get out without being hurt. However, I didn't believe there was a great likelihood of that.
Don't refer to him as that, Dom yelled.
Marty told Dom to stop talking and pushed him to the ground. Dom stumbled and dropped his phone, which shattered on the ground. When he grabbed it, the screen was entirely cracked, which caused him to shout angrily. As Todd and the others laughed at him, his eyes began to water. Dom worked part-time for six months in a fast food restaurant to be able to afford his own phone because his parents wouldn't get him one. He attempted to switch it on, but nothing happened.
Dom murmured, "You broke my phone," as tears welled up in his eyes.
I said under my breath, "Oh fuck," knowing that something terrible was about to happen.
"What are you going to do about it, nerd?" Todd scoffed.
I tried to diffuse the situation by saying, "Look, we don't want any problems, we'll go."
In between sobs, Dom yelled, "You broke my fucking phone." Jared looked around to see if anyone could assist us while Chris and I exchanged looks. We weren't as fortunate, though.
It wasn't a gentle dawn. As like the planet itself knew what was coming, it tore through the sky in ragged crimson and gold streaks. The packhouse was filled with muted growls and the sound of boots on the floor when I woke up. Already, warriors were in motion, prepping, drilling, and inspecting. Sweat and the biting tang of wolf musk mixed with the lingering smell of strain. With his arms folded and his eyes looking everywhere, Ethan stood in the middle of the main hall. Every wolf was drawn to him just by his presence, their discipline almost flawless, their loyalty keen. I sensed the boundaries of the storm, but even now the Alpha contained it in his chest. Through the relationship, I sensed it. He said, without looking at me, "You'll be in charge of the scouts." His voice was forceful, authoritative, and precise. "You must be seen by your pack as more than just my mate." I felt a knot in my stomach. Me? In charge of the scouts? Despite my trembling voice, I squared my shoulders. "
Eventually, the courtyard dispersed, but the Bloodfang messenger's words stuck to me like smoke. union. coalition. Queen. Bile sprang in my throat at its arrogance. Ethan walked quickly inside the packhouse, his jaw clenched. No one dared to slow him down, and the wolves parted swiftly as we went by. Not because I had chosen it, but because he hadn't released his grip since the courtyard, I rushed to be by his side. I was reminded of both anchor and chain by the burning sensation of his palm. We arrived at his workplace. The sound of Ethan slamming the door shut echoed like thunder in the room. He paced back and forth as waves of rage rolled off him. His shoulders were taut, his fists clenched, and he walked like a predator surrounding its prey. His voice was low and deadly as he murmured, "They think they can take what's mine." "They believe they can stand on my property and claim it as their own." I had to keep my voice steady as I leaned on a chair's edge. A provocation occurred. T
Perhaps it was just the shift inside of me, but the air outside the office was cooler than when we had entered. As Ethan led the way down the corridor, his hand briefly touched mine not holding, not claiming, but grounding my heart pounded uneasily. With each step resonating with the weight of what lay ahead, we descended the stairs. There were murmuring in the packhouse. Wolves bowed their heads to Ethan and stepped out of our way. However, their eyes oh, they stared at me. Some squinted with mistrust, while others showed open contempt. A few appeared uncertain and interested. Pretending that their looks didn't make me feel uncomfortable, I raised my chin higher. I refused to act like prey if I was going to stand next to Ethan right now. The night air outside struck me clean and harsh. We could see the courtyard in front of us, the gravel covered in long shadows from the candles. The messenger was there, flanked by two guards. The Bloodfang insignia glowed dark against his coat, but
Thunder was still rumbling in Ethan's office even though the storm outside had long since gone. His hold on my wrist was as firm as iron chains, but it didn't cause any bruises. The packhouse was out of sight as the door closed behind us, leaving just him, me, and the heat from our impact. My back struck his desk's edge. As he bent over me, his eyes blazing and his chest heaving as if he had wrestled that same night, the polished wood sank into my back. With a low, menacing voice, he replied, "You don't get to disappear on me." Despite the fact that my pulse was a rogue drum, I raised my chin and refused to back down. "I didn't vanish. I turned to leave. There is a distinction. "Wwalked off?" He laughed bitterly and sharply. "Mabella, don't leave me alone. Not from your friend. Not from your Alpha. He didn't mean for the words to cut so deeply. My friend. My Alpha. My neck was encircled by two chains that pulled in opposing directions. "You think I'll bend if you throw titles at me?"
Tension was high in the packhouse the next morning. The smell of silver and blood still permeated the air as whispers hummed down the corridors. Warriors moved like shadows; some were hobbling from the battle the night before, while others were brimming with anticipation for the next one. I didn't get much sleep. I always saw Selene's smile when I closed my eyes; it was piercing and perceptive, as if she were ten steps ahead of us. When I entered the battle room, Ethan was already there. The table was covered with our territory's map, which was marked with marks. His jaw was clenched, his shirt sleeves were rolled up, and the coffee fragrance stuck to him like armor. He said, "Sit," without raising his gaze. I raised an eyebrow. "Not much of a welcome in the morning." When he finally turned to face me, his eyes moved over my face as if to confirm that I hadn't vanished over night. "We don't have time to say hello. Today, we set the trap. I was interested in that. "Trap?" He gave the m
Every moment I was at the office made it feel smaller. I was only reminded that the world was still turning and that fights were still being fought without me by the faint murmur of voices and activity in the packhouse beyond the door. I was told to keep put by Ethan. However, Ethan also believed that if I told me something, I would follow through on it. which was untrue, as history had shown. Leaning on his desk, I gazed at the map that was affixed to the wall. My gaze kept returning to the south boundary, where the red marker indicated the attack spot. The description the rogue had provided a tall, dark-haired she-wolf who paid them in gold was all I could think about. Selene Davor was the only name that kept circling like a vulture in my mind. Before I arrived, she had been a member of Ethan's pack for years until she departed, supposedly of her own volition. Tall, deadly, and driven... as well as having a personal grudge against every lady who attracted Ethan's interest. She and I
