“I want you, Lyra. Since the day I saw you at that bastard’s place, I’ve wanted you. It might have taken me a long time to realize it, but let me be a part of your life…” He struggled for a moment, “…and this baby. Our baby.” ************************************* Lyra Lockwood, former princess and the last of her kind, had unknowingly connived with her mate to kill her parents, only to end up rejected. Six years later, the Wolf King visits her pack, sees her, and demands she participate in his Luna choosing game—a game where one woman emerges as his Luna. But for years, all the women who participated have died. For years, rumors swirled that the Wolf King was the one killing them. For years, Raphael had not seen a woman like Lyra—someone who captured both him and his wolf from the moment they laid eyes on her. To Lyra, he was her master now, one she had to serve, just as she had served Edmund, her ex-mate. To Raphael, he wanted to know every inch of her—every scar, every line. Would Lyra accept him into her life after everything she’s been through? And could Raphael wait for her through it all? Find out.

“You want me to give you my wife for the Luna games competition?” I glanced at myself using the mirror that hung right above the sink to my right, wondering when I could finally take a break and sit down. Looking down at my feet, I could feel the scorching gaze of the visitor, whose face I had not mustered the courage to look at. “My legs hurt,”I groaned under my breath wondering where this meeting was headed. My limbs were sore from the scrubbing and washing I had stayed all night doing all because the wolf king, the visitor who was seated, was coming to our pack. I could still hear Edmund's voice, “Make sure everywhere is spotless,” he would instruct and then proceed to litter the place with the dirt underneath his shoes. The dining was set and different meals were placed on it.We never cooked that much food, and if we ever did? I was to make sure not a single piece of food was wasted else, I would be wasted by Edmund. Reaching out across the table to take the salt bottle, my eyes followed him, gulping as he sprinkled salt on the grilled meat that I had salivated all through the preparation. I would be lucky if I were to lay my hands on the remains. “You are fully aware that this is what happens, Edmund. It's been on for a couple of years,” the wolf king said, his voice like medicine that soothed my wounds. My attention returned back to the conversation at hand, forgetting about my hunger and tiredness for a minute. The Luna game competition. He wasn't wrong that the alpha king had a ritual to perform every three years— a ritual that involved a Luna game competition, where every pack had to give up a female, either a daughter or someone, but it had to be a female. I didn’t know much about it, but it was all for the wolf king. Whoever lady survived the competition was the wolf king’s destined mate. And his visit only meant one thing, it was finally our turn to give up a female and I was curious who was getting picked. I heard Edmund mention his wife and the thought of that made my heart clench. His wife. There was no way he would let Amelia out of his sight. “But my king, sadly this pack doesn't have anyone who is worthy to compete in your Luna games” Edmund argued. “I do not take no for an answer, Edmund,” the king said “That is common knowledge,” “Lyra,” Edmund barked and I jerked. I blinked severally and moved uneasily from one foot to another. “Are you sleeping on your feet?” I shook my head and gulped. I needed as much rest as I could get and in whatever happened, I couldn't be in Edmund's wrong today. “Then why did it take you so long to answer your name?” He pushed his chair back and I felt my knees tremble. I waited for a few seconds but he didn't get off his chair. Maybe it was because the Alpha was present. Every other day, Edmund would have taken a few strides across the room and violently strike his palm on my cheek. “Get out,” He said and I exhaled. “I will be leaving now sir," I said in a mere whisper, dragging my heavy legs. To me, it was of no point leaving because I was yet to complete my tasks for the day and I would still be called upon when the Alpha King eventually decides to leave. But Edmund had told me to— and his wish is and has always been my command. “Who is she?” His deep voice sounded in my direction, sending balls of electricity through my entire nervous system. My brain paused for a moment, hoping that he wasn't in any way referring to me, because that was the last thing I wanted— to be noticed by him. His slender finger pointed in my direction, solidifying my thoughts, “ Stay still, will you?” “She is just one of the maids,” Edmund shrugged nonchalantly, reminding me once again that I meant nothing more than that— a maid. “ It's nothing special,” he added, swirling the glass cup in his hand because letting it sit on his lips, gulping the content of the cup. “You seem to be forgetting that I am not a child Edmund,” he looked handsome when he chuckled, I could already imagine the perfect set of teeth those lips were hiding. I was still lost in thought when I heard the screeching sound of the chair against the marble floor. It was definitely going to leave a mark, a mark that I would spend the whole of tomorrow trying to get off, “An ordinary maid cannot have gray eyes and that color of hair. I can clearly see that you are trying to hide the real color of her hair under these poorly done brown tints,” he was in front of me now, his fingers in my hair as he examined it scrutiny. His scent invaded my nostrils— leather and cigarettes, throwing me into a dazed state. I sucked in air, not daring to breathe out and pollute the air. “Anyone can have all those features you speak about, it is really nothing special or is there something you are implying?” Edmund was fidgeting, I could tell. His eyes were darting everywhere, not fixated on any other place. It might be my ears but I feel like I can hear his heartbeat from here, from fear of the king finding out. “I am implying that there is more to her than what meets the eye, Edmund. Tell me about her,” he insisted calmly yet I felt the power in his words. Maybe this was what made him different from Edmund, he could command respect without even trying. Edmund's anger was rising, it was slowly becoming impossible for him to control himself now, there was an edge in his voice when he spoke, “And I insist that she is just a mere maid, Alpha. So you think I would lie to you? Come on now, we are deviating from the topic just because of a mere maid. Where were we? Let's pick up from there,” His words were rushed as though if he delayed for a second, he could wreck havoc on the Alpha King, and certainly he didn't want to get on his bad side, he needed the alliance with the Alpha King. Finally, I lifted my eyes to meet his and in the split second they met, an inexplicable emotion surged through me like lightning. More like I could see my future in his eyes. It was something, a connection I had never felt before, I doubt if he felt it too. “What is her name?” He demanded, pulling away from me. “It is not important” “Why is that?” he demanded, almost impatiently, before turning to me, “What Is your name?” “Um it is…” I swallowed, my eyes fixed on Edmund, for a sign or any form to tell me what to do or whether to reply. I didn’t want any situation that could lead to him beating me up when the alpha king leaves. “What are you scared of? I am sure he doesn't mind you telling me your name, it's just your name,” “It is actually, um… Lyra,” I blurt, reminding myself to brace myself for whatever punishment accompanies my actions. “Lyra….” He mused, as though finding the name intriguing, “ Mmm it has a nice ring to it. It sounds… mystical,” “Thank you sir, I will take my leave now,” “No you won't,” he said, immediately turning to Edmund and muttering three words that sent my insides freezing, “I want her,” There was a deep silence in the entire room, my heart pounding heavily in my chest as Edmund replied, “You can't have her,” “And why's that?” I looked up at his face as he replied, his eyebrows arched as though up for a challenge. “Because she is my ex mate and she belongs to me.”Chapter 74LYRA'S POV “Talk?” I swallowed. I looked back at the girls who were walking away. They moved slowly. His hand was firm around mine and his frame towered over me. It made the air around me heavier. I looked up at him. His broad shoulders, his sharp jaws and eyes that looked too kind for a man that everyone feared. He was staring back at me. I felt my stomach take a dive and my knees grew weak. I looked away and down at my feet. Not because I wanted to but because no one stared at the Alpha. It was considered a challenge and I was not about to challenge him. “Good job, today.”I licked my lips. “Thank you.” “I was worried about you,” He said and my heart jumped.“Worried about me? I'm fine.” “It didn't seem like that in there but I'm glad you're fine,” He brushed hair off my face. His touch was light and fast but it felt like my entire body had been set on fire. My heart raced quicker than it would. “Are you okay?” He covered the space between us. His chest brushed again
Chapter 73RAPHAEL'S POV “I think this is where they get out,” Darius said and my eyes thinned as I focused. There was a knock on the door. It was Esmeralda. “Are they out?” I heard her ask in a voice thinned by panic. I must have zoned out because I didn't hear Darius' response to her. She was worried about Lyra. I was too. “Is Lyra still alive?” “Yes,” Darius said and she exhaled. I watched them run away from whatever that monster was. “She’s out,” I screamed despite myself. “Darius, get the medic.” I got off my seat and started hurrying towards the field where she got out. My chest suddenly felt free and the palace seemed to have regained its colors. I almost tripped on my way there but I didn't mind. “Her breath is faint. She is badly injured. She twisted her arm. There's a cut on her head. Emergency here.”These words floated over my head as I saw the pack doctors hurrying around trying to help each girl. I walked behind as they took them to the infirmary. “Alpha, I'm sor
Chapter 72 LYRA'S POV I looked around. I couldn't make sense of anything around here. Who was doing this? My head felt too heavy and my eyes hurt. “Are you hurt?” I asked Kaia and she shook her head.“I mean. Not really,” She looked down at her boots. The one on her right leg had torn badly. I couldn't make sense of what this place was. It looked like the places my mother would refer to as hell. A place where your soul would wander and punished. Why were we here? My mind went to Raphael and I scoffed. Little wonder why he had not found a Luna in all these years. How was anyone supposed to survive these games. Kaia coughed and it echoed. The air here was heavy and polluted. Every breath burned and my eyes watered. I looked up at the clouds and the sight of them made me shiver. It was an uncomfortable shade of red like someone had bled all over them. I heard something fall in a distance. Was it the wind or…“I don't think we're alone,” Kaia voiced out my fears. I rubbed the back of
Chapter 71 LYRA'S POV “Why would you do that?” I ask calmly at first. I could still hear her screams and the sound of the door being shut like they mocked me. I turned to Kaia who stood with her back against the wall. Her eyes were wide open and she seemed to be having difficulty catching her breath. “Why would you do that?” I shout as I push Valerie against the door. She looked away as if remorseful for what she had done. “She was going to slow us down. We couldn't afford that.”I chuckled dryly. “Are you insane?” I grabbed her dress.“That girl came in with you. You didn't check to see if she was fine. All you care about is yourself. It was I and Kaia that tried to make sure she was fine but you get to decide if she'll slow us down or what??”She shrugged and looked away. I held her chin firmly and snapped it to me. I could see the surprise on her face. “Look at me. I'm speaking to you.”She forcefully removed herself from my grip. “You really have grown some balls, Lyra and y
Chapter 70 RAPHAEL'S POVI knew what today's games were all about. Probably because I had watched it one too many times but today was different. I had grown cold feet and the inside of my robe suddenly felt too hot. I adjusted the collar and exhaled for the hundredth time. I heard those quick precise steps behind me. Darius placed his hand on my shoulders. “She’ll be fine.”“What are you talking about?” I asked, my voice tight. I knew exactly what or rather who he was talking about but I was Alpha and I shouldn't have favourites. He tapped my shoulder and took his seat beside me. I watched each princess go through her fear. My heart was basically in my mouth and I couldn't stop tapping my feet. I saw Lyra run into another girl and I raised a brow. Was that when supposed to happen? I turned to Darius and he looked just as confused as I was. I heard a chuckle from behind me. I exhaled. “I see you're enjoying the little plot twists I added.”I turned around sharply to see Madriel w
Chapter 69LYRA'S POV White. That was the first thing my brain registered. That's the only thing my brain registered. I quickly got on my feet and helped Kaia up. I looked around. The padded floors and walls and a bone chilling silence. “What is this place?” Kaia’s voice broke with panic. “I don't know,” I whispered. “I don't remember anything like this. Do you?”She shook her head quickly. “Hello, is anyone here?” Kaia said but I pressed my hand against her lips. “Shhhh. What are you doing?”“What are we going to do? Just stand here? There are no doors or windows.”“We would find a way out,” I hissed. There was a bang against the wall and our heads snapped in the direction. Kaia’s eyes grew wide with panic. I tried to remain calm. I looked the room. There were no weapons anywhere. I cursed beneath my breath. The bang came again and two girls came crashing through the walls. We stepped back in fear. They raised her heads and I recognised one of them. Valerie. The other girl took
