Chapter 25

Falcon sits silently next to me, his muscular jean-clad thigh pressing against mine as he stares at the brick walls of the dismantled home we are staying in. It feels weird being alone with him now that we have kissed a few times. The first time I couldn’t help but kiss him after his kind words washed over me. The second time, however, was all him coming to me. And now here we are, awkwardly sitting in uncomfortable silence.

“So…” I offer. Grabbing a stick from my side and breaking it into tiny pieces.

“What?” He asks.

“That’s pretty crazy about vampires, huh?”

I mentally slap myself. When did it become so uncomfortable to be around him? I have always been so comfortable and safe around him, but now I sit nervously like a girl waiting to hear if the guy she likes is crushing on her too. The best part? I know he is at least attracted to me. I mean, why else would he kiss me?

“Are you making small talk?” He asks, turning his head to face me.

“Maybe?” I smile weakly. “It just feels awk
