I shoved the door open. The air in the room was thick and heavy. Kael was bent over the map, gripping the table's edge so hard his knuckles were white.

Brynjar stood by the fireplace, still as a stone, arms crossed. His jaw was tight. Silas, Kael's usually calm Beta, was gone, probably already working on some plan I didn't know about yet.

They both looked up as I walked in. The pressure in their stares felt like a punch.
