When I felt the silver tear through my body, the Moon Goddess bound me to Cedwin from four years ago. His younger self was going to propose, when he saw me covered in blood through the cool moonlight. His eyes widened in shock. And back at the present, Cedwin started toward me, his arms shielding Laura—who barely suffered a scratch. Kicking away the building in his way forcefully, the shockwave left me coughing blood. Even so, Cedwin was glaring at me, those red eyes of his that once only cared about me now devoid of warmth. "How jealous and despicable can you get?" He growled. "Feigning an attack just to scare Laura? Heck, that silver almost looks real—you really make me sick!" And with that, he turned to me, leaving me stuck under the debris, still paralyzed by the silver. On the other hand, the Cedwin from four years ago was clawing at the moonlight. He was intent on saving me, but there was nothing he could do but watch. In the end, my lips curled up as I looked at the youth in the moonlight, even as blood streamed out of my mouth. "Don't." As he froze, my smile broadened, serene. "I don't want to be your Luna anymore."

Chapter 1

Kael, the warrior captain, exclaimed anxiously, "Alpha, the area's collapsing. We need to extract the silver to save your Luna…"

Cedwin was standing beyond the debris, not even looking my way as he growled, "Get Laura out first."

Laura's face was pale as she clenched his arm.

There was only a single, very faint scratch, so she was basically unscathed.

Kael was stumped.

"But Luna is still trapped inside," he said, pointing at the crumbling building. "She can't move because of the silver nail. She could even die with the silver impeding her healing."

Cedwin didn't even flinch. "Luna staged this entire incident. Since she dared to cause this mess out of jealousy, let her stay in there and cool her head. After she admits her mistake, you can get her out."

With that, he snatched the power saw out of a warrior's grasp and snapped, "Get Laura out first! Now!"

The basement parking complex was still collapsing, and I couldn't get myself out after the earthquake.

And with the silver stake in me after I was attacked, it kept me from healing even if it didn't kill me yet.

So I could only watch as Cedwin, using his authority as Alpha, coerced everyone into saving Laura.

Past Cedwin was almost losing his mind as he screamed at his present self. "Are you crazy?! Can't you see that Sophia is pinned and can't heal?! Save her! I'm begging you!"

-

Four years ago was when I just took three silver bullets for Cedwin, who was kidnapped.

We had a healing factor, but the silver still kept me in ICU for two weeks.

Cedwin was on his knees beside my bed, crying like a child.

Then, he promised, "I won't ever let you get hurt again. It'll break my heart if you get so much as a scratch."

Now, he fulfilled that promise—but for Laura, not me.

As the pack warriors carried Laura out of the debris, Cedwin promptly took off his suit and draped it over her shoulders.

She leaned into his arm, sighing, "Luna is still in there. Save her, don't worry about me. If anything bad happens to her, I'll leave the pack and return where I belong…"

As she spoke, her eyes welled up with tears as if she were the one who was hurt in this incident.

Cedwin looked downward at her and said flatly, "Don't worry about her. She caused this in the first place, and she should suffer the consequences."

And with that, he carried her to the ambulance.

I could see through the debris as the lycan who promised to protect me forever left.

The healers quickly gathered around Laura, and after examining her, the leader said, "It's just a scratch. It's not life-threatening. There's no need for first aid…"

However, Cedwin's voice turned cold right then. "She's clearly not in a stable condition and any wound can fester. If her condition worsens, none of you can afford to bear those consequences."

The healers naturally didn't dare argue and cleaned the scratch that was almost invisible.

On the other hand, I could feel the silver burning me with agony every time I breathed.

My wolf was screaming hysterically, as my strong healing factor was impeded while blood slowly drained out of me.

[0:04:00]

I glimpsed the number in the moonlight—the countdown timer until we made contact.

Past Cedwin was on his knees, screaming with red eyes into the moonlight, "That fool… He has no right!"

I looked at the youth, and then at the sharply dressed man standing beside the ambulance.

Then, I smiled faintly.

It was the same person, so how did things turn out like this?
