Her eyes fluttered open slowly. Rayne woke up with a huge headache. She looked around the room, groggily.
'What happened?'
She slowly sat up on the bed and looked around once again. She was in her room, but she couldn't immediately remember what happened before this. Everything was blurry. When she tried to think hard enough to remember, the headache intensified so she stopped. It was strange. Just as she sat on her bed feeling lost, there was a small knock on the door and it opened. A middle aged woman walked into the room, quietly but briskly and elegantly.
.
"Oh my goodness!", she exclaimed when she noticed Rayne sitting on the bed.
"You gave me a scare", she muttered as she held her chest.
Rayne watched her quietly.
"My Luna, you are awake?", the woman asked after a small pause as if just realizing that Rayne was actually awake.
"Yes, Rosa", Rayne answered softly.
"Oh my! Thank the moon goddess!", the woman immediately exclaimed and hurried over to the bedside.
"How are you feeling now, Luna? Are you ok? Are you in pain?", Rosa asked.
Rayne smiled softly and shook her head.
"No, I'm fine. I feel very fine Rosa"
"Oh, that's wonderful", Rosa said happily.
Rayne smiled at her. Rosa was her head maid and had been around since she was a child. After her mother died, Rosa was the one who looked after her as her father was mostly always busy with Alpha duties.
"Oh really, thank the moon goddess. I was so worried", Rosa said as she gently grabbed Rayne's hands.
"It's ok now Rosa", Rayne assured her and patted her hands.
"But Rosa, what happened?", Rayne asked her.
"You don't remember?", Rosa asked back and Rayne shook her head slowly.
"You were out riding when you had an accident. You were thrown off your horse and you hit your head badly", Rosa explained.
'An accident?'
"How long have I been unconscious?", Rayne asked.
"Three days", Rosa replied.
'Three days....', Rayne muttered.
Rayne tried to remember. She saw a very brief flash of her on a horse but her memories felt like it was being blocked like it was overshadowed by something else, something else she had to remember but she couldn't. Her headache intensified again and she couldn't help but groan in pain.
"My Luna, are you in pain? Are you hurt? Should I call the royal doctor?", Rosa immediately panicked.
"No, no, I'm fine", Rayne immediately refused when the headache subsided a bit.
"Are you sure?", Rosa asked, looking at her doubtfully.
"Yes, I'm sure", Rayne answered and smiled softly at her.
"Ok, if you say so. Are you hungry? I'll tell the kitchen to prepare something for you", Rosa offered.
"Ok, thank you", Rayne responded.
Rosa smiled in response and patted her hands once more before walking to the door.
"Rosa...", Rayne called after her before she could leave.
"Yes, my Luna?"
"Who did I go riding with?", Rayne asked.
"No one, my queen. You went alone", Rosa answered.
"I did? So how did you know..."
"Oh yes! About that, how forgetful of me, it was a young man that found you and carried you all the way back", Rosa explained.
"A young man?", Rayne asked.
"Yes and he insisted on staying here all the time the doctor was treating you. He has also been visiting constantly to ask how you are for the past three days'', Rosa told her.
"Really?"
"Yes"
"Alright, if he comes again, bring him in. I would love to thank him myself", Rayne told her.
"Ok, my queen", Rosa replied and bowed a little before leaving the room.
After Rosa left the room, Rayne got down and walked around the room, touching some of her things as she did. She finally stopped in front of the full length mirror in the room and stared at her reflection. It was her room, it was her things but everything felt so unreal. Something felt wrong, so out of place, she couldn't describe it and she didn't understand it either.
Knock knock
"Come in", Rayne answered and the door opened to show Rosa walking in.
"My queen", Rosa said and bowed.
"The young man who helped you is here, should I bring him in here?", Rosa asked.
"Yes", Rayne answered.
Rosa nodded and backed out of the room. After Rosa left, Rayne reached for her robe. She threw it over her night dress and tied it securely.
Knock knock
"Come in"
"My queen, this is the young man who helped you", Rosa introduced.
Rayne nodded and looked at the man who was following behind Rosa, he had his head bowed.
"It is an honor to meet you, my Luna", the man said in a rich masculine voice.
"It's ok", Rayne said and the man slowly raised his head.
When Rayne saw his face, she felt her headache intensify and there was a flash of white light in her mind. Rayne massaged her temples as the headache got worse, it was like something was trying to force its way into her mind.
"My queen, are you alright?", she heard Rosa ask with concern in her voice.
"Yes, I'm fine. Just a little headache", Rayne replied.
Rosa eyed her doubtfully but didn't say anything more.
"Ah, yes....", Rayne began to speak and looked at the man who was staring at her.
"What is your name?", she asked him.
"Anthony", he replied.
Rayne stared at him. He was about 6ft tall in height and was very handsome. His eyebrows were bushy and he had doe shaped eyes that were a clear blue in color. He had an aquiline nose, arched cheekbones and a lantern jaw that was firm and square.
All these features were what made him very handsome and no doubt drew a lot of women to him. But when Rayne looked at him, she felt a sense of apprehension and fear. She also felt pain, pain of what is what she didn't know.
"Anthony, thank you for helping me", Rayne thanked him.
"It was an honor my queen", Anthony replied.
"My father always said to do a good deed whenever you can", he added.
'Do a good deed....'
Rayne's head began to hurt again. The white light flashed in her mind again but this time it was much brighter and her head felt like it had exploded.
'My father always said to do a good deed whenever you can.....', those words replayed in her head.
Then the images flashed in her head. They were blurry and brief but she could make sense of them. In one of the images a man was squatting next to her, grinning evilly. She could hear his laughter before she was pulled back.
She heard Rosa say something but she didn't hear what she said. What were those images? Was it a dream? But it felt too real. And the man in the images why did he look somewhat like...., she looked at Anthony. Before Rayne could say anything else, the pain hit her with her full force, the images replayed but this time they were more vivid and they all rushed into her head, painfully.
When she came to, Rosa was looking at her with worry but Rayne didn't pay attention to her. She finally understood why everything felt so unreal. Why she felt something was wrong and out of place. She remembered the important thing that she was supposed to remember, she had died.
..
"Why?", Rayne asked softly lying on the floor. She was bleeding profusely from her head. She looked up at the man who was standing before her. The man she had loved deeply with all of her heart and whom she thought loved her just as much as well."Anthony, why? You said... you said you loved me so much, so why?", she managed to ask again, gathering all her strength.Anthony leaned down and scoffed."Love you?", he asked mockingly."And you believed me?", he asked her with a smirk."What an idiot", another female voice mocked."You are right, she really is an idiot", Anthony agreed standing up and wrapping his hands around the other woman."Unlike her council", he added."Guess you should have listened to them, huh?", Anthony asked Rayne with an evil grin."When they told you not to marry me. Guess you should have listened to their advice, my queen", he mocked her."Wh... What?", Rayne asked, blinking her eyes in disbelief."Did you really think I loved you? I hate you. I hate you so m
"My queen, my queen", the sound of Rosa calling out to her, brought Rayne back from her stunned state. She blinked her eyes repeatedly and looked at Rosa."My queen, are you alright?", Rosa asked worriedly."I'm... I'm fine", Rayne answered."Should I call for the doctor?", Anthony offered and as soon as he spoke, it felt like the temperature in the room had dropped.Rayne who had been focused on Rosa now slowly turned to look at him. The look in her eyes was unfathomable as she stared at him but her gaze made him uncomfortable."Yes please", Rosa answered."No, no need. I'm fine, I promise. I just need a little rest""Well then you should rest, let me help you to your bed", Rosa suggested."Let me help, my queen", Anthony suddenly offered."No", Rayne answered immediately and with such force that surprised both Rosa and Anthony.Realizing how she must have sounded, Rayne smiled softly at Anthony."I mean, there's really no need. I'm fine, I can get to my bed just fine with Rosa", Ray
As Anthony laid down on his bed, his mind replayed his meeting with Luna earlier. After the accident, Anthony had been going to the place for the past three days without fail, hoping she would be awake already and he could meet her. He was already becoming impatient, wondering if he had overdid things and if she would ever wake up. He needed her to wake up, he needed to meet her, that was why he had planned the entire accident in the first place. As luck would have it, she had woken up today, he could breathe easy. He replayed the meeting in his head, she seemed gentle and kind. And she was certainly very beautiful, Anthony remembered her features well. She was about 5'4ft tall, and had long blonde hair. Her face was heart shaped, her eyes were moon shaped and they were the most beguiling turquoise green. She had a pointed nose and full lips. He also remembered her soft smile that gave her a gentle and elegant aura.'With looks like that, this doesn't really have to be torture for me'
With her being the game changer and the master of the game, she’s decided not to take it slowly on the two traitorsShe stared at Sophia shyly as she watched her dazzling at Anthony’s beauty. It took the clearing of Rayne’s throat for Sophia to leave Anthony’s hand. She saw how Sophia immediately adjusted herself as she stared stunningly at Anthony’s face and that was how it began.“Okay, so if you wouldn’t mind. I was about to step out for lunch, can you come along?” Rayne asked, leading the way already.“Oh! A dinner with my Luna? That’ll be awesome, I'd really love that” Anthony exclaimed, oblivious of Sophia’s dazzling eyes on him.Sophia just couldn’t wrap her head around this man’s warmness, she felt heavenly around him.“What about you Sophia? Would you come?” Rayne asked, already knowing what her answer would be.“Errm…I couldn’t get you Rayne…oh! For the dinner, I won’t be able to join you. I have a ball to attend to…” Sophie said, already getting misplaced. She watched as th
“Rosa, I’ve been trying to get across that Anthony of a guy…” Mary, one of the palace maids asked.“Get across? Don’t tell me it’s literally what I’m thinking” Rosa asked, surprised.“What are you thinking? C’mon, how would I know that…but don’t you see that the guy has good intentions towards our Luna…he’s really caring if you ask me……” Mary answered. “I can’t really believe you’re falling for that snitch of a guy, he seems weird. He’s acting up if you ask me” Rosa said, trimming the flowers.“He’s not a snitch, he’s just a random gentle man who cares for the safety and feelings of our Luna, you shouldn’t take such things for granted” Mary answered, oblivious of her loud voice which caught Rayne’s attention. “Tell that to our Luna when you get to her presence, I’m sure she’ll rip your head off” Rosa said sarcastically, as they all burst into laughter.“But come to think of it, don’t you think Sophia the Luna’s friend has an ulterior motive, the way she acts all worked up towards th
“Where would we get that?” Anthony muttered in silence.“There’s something really up with that book, it contains some deep mysteries if you ask me…” Cole confirmed. He has been the right hand man of Anthony all this while, he’s from the same pack with him but lost his father at a tender age.“So what do you think we can do? Where did you get the book from in the first place?” Anthony asked, holding the book as he paced around the room.“My father…” Cole answered“Your father ? What has he got to do with the book?” Anthony asked, seeming less enthusiastic.“I got the book from my father dude, he passed it to me before his death” Cole answered back.“Relax man, I don’t seem to get it…your father did?” Anthony asked again, seeming interested now.“Yeah, he was on the verge of his death when he threw the book at me”*** ** FLASHBACK ** ** *It was a bloody feud between the Mooners pack and Maroon pack, their enmity between them has lingered for long as they felt this war would probably st
Chapter EightRayne walked across the pathway of the kingdom palace paying strict attention to the guards who walked past her or she saw, the way she had been granted access to the palace gate was one that still surprised her.She had not hoped to be given this warm welcome at all, and since she received it, being surprised seems to be an understatement that explained her expression. She knew her Father could only be the one who could command the guards to honor her that way, I mean what’s it with the royal bows she kept receiving from every guards she walked past, not to talk of being brought in to the palace by a white little baby horse, the signet ring given to her and even the royal clip attached to her hair. This all concluded that something was overly fishing which Rayne hoped to crack soon. She stopped at the pathway leading to the throne where she knew her father was, she stopped at hearing a guards voice coming in her way, she quickly hid herself so as to eaves drop on their
She turned back and saw him with a trembling face and her voice, she kneeled…“What are you looking for here” the pack counselor asked, he had not walked a mile away when he remembered that he forgot an important note in the palace and he knew that information could cost him a lot, hence the reason why he came back.“My Lord, i… i… i… ca… me f… or Ra…yne my lord” Sophia asked, losing the ability to speak good English as she stammered.“Rayne ? She left here some moments ago, didn’t you see her?” The pack counselor asked, not believing her.“I didn't know my Lord… so I decided to check over here” Sophia answered.“So, who gave you access to the palace, the guard already told me no one was in, so how did you get in here” he asked, not still convinced.“Ermm… i… i… actually… I actually bypassed the guards”“Bypassed the guards?”“No, not that… the guards weren’t there, so I decided to come in since I had an important information for her,” Sophia said, fidgeting. The pack counselor looked
