Isabeau's POV

As I close the door behind me, leaving Alaric and I alone, his gaze bores into me with an intensity I have never seen before. Gone is the usual look of disgust, irritation, or disinterest he often gives me. Instead, his eyes hold an unsettling amount of anger and something dark and sinister, something so dark that even Aello can sense is not to be taken lightly. My heart skips a beat at the danger in his gaze, and I can feel the weight of his fury pressing down on me.

"So the rumors are true, then," Alaric deadpans through gritted teeth, his voice laced with a mix of anger and something else that I can't quite place.

"What rumors?" I reply, feigning innocence and raising an eyebrow as if I have no knowledge of the gossip circulating throughout the pack.

The fury on Alaric's face twists even deeper. "Don't play dumb with me, Isabeau. Leocadia told me everything. She says you've been cheating on me, even going as far as to bring your lover into your home.
