Astrid.

I should have refused. I should have denied being a doctor. Yet, I allowed him to take my hand and lead me to his room.

It was spacious, with a pristine white interior. A large king-sized bed, draped in a white spread, boasted nearly ten pillows. Behind me was a vast glass window, not the sliding kind, but one that was bolted shut. Outside, not far on the hill, stood the castle—a castle I had been to, one that had almost broken me. And just below it lay the loch.

The view from his room, from his window, was spectacular. The wind whispered into the room, the few strands of hair Willa had left loose framing my face, now dancing at the back of my neck.

I turned slowly, my eyes unable to settle on one spot as they roamed the room. The brown linoleum floor felt smooth beneath my feet. Across from the bed was a large flat-screen TV and a white fluffy couch adorned with pillows, much like the one in my room, though mine was brown.

My gaze drifted to the left, but I quickly looked dow

AstridThe next day, I arrived at the training grounds well before half of those who usually trained. I waited in the shed for Soren, noticing the absence of Amon's usual companions.I settled onto one of the benches, the silence stretching as thirty minutes passed without any sign of him. Despite the unease, I couldn't bring myself to leave. Interaction with the other trainees felt impossible under their less than friendly gazes. Willa was also absent from her riding session. Restlessness gnawed at me as I paced in the shade."Been waiting long, yeah?"A deep baritone voice, impossibly close to my neck, sent a jolt through me. I could feel his breath.Without turning, I knew it was him."Follow me," his voice commanded, deep and stern.I trailed silently behind him. We walked past the area where Amon and I had trained, a wave of nausea rising in my throat that I forcefully suppressed. We continued down the path, the same one where I'd seen Willa riding her horse that first day. Though, even a prisoner would have their hands behind them. His pink tongue flicked out, the tip tracing his bottom lip in a slow, deliberate motion.I swallowed hard, my mouth suddenly dry. For a fleeting moment, an undeniable pull drew me towards him. I craved the heat of his body pressed against mine, the sensation of being utterly possessed, just as he had with that wide-hipped girl. As if my body had made its own decision, a silent agreement to take what it desired if he wouldn't offer it, I inched forward. He yanked the car door open and pushed me forward. He was about to enter but stopped and turned to the guard at the garage. “If you ever see her around here, let me know.” The guard nodded, his black security cap bobbing on his head. He entered the car. His jaw was tight, revealing nothing. What was his problem? “Seatbelt on.” I rolled my eyes, reached for the side of the seatbelt, and pulled it across my body. It was no use arguing with him; I didn’t have the energy.“Who gave you orders to go to the club?” His voice rang in the car. My eyes, which were fixed on the dark path ahead illuminated by the orange headlights, snapped to him. His eyes were on the road, focused just as they always were when he looked at me.“I didn’t know I needed your permission before going to the club,” I muttered, my hands fiddling between my ti

Her hands were stiff at her sides, her head tilted down."Shooting arrows seems not to be your specialty, so we shall move on to something else."I dropped the quiver of arrows on my back and started ahead. Aside from that, the softness that dripped from his voice when he spoke, the way he handled matters melted my heart. The Dark Circus Pack came into view below the valley. From this vantage point, the reflection of the pale sky shimmered on the water surrounding the pack. One could almost call it Islandis if Dark Circus sounded too harsh. Far in the distance lay the largest body of water on this side of Veridian.I could easily dismantle the pack for attempting to breach our contract, but again, I wasn't a man driven by rash actions. I needed to understand the reason behind the abrupt message.I began my descent. The wind picked up, whipping my hair back. The trees swayed from side to side, and birds soared ac
