FRANKIE POV

Darkness surrounds me.

But I was breathing? That can’t be. I knew I was dead. I remember the knife plunged into my chest. I recall everything Aiden and Alice said to me. I remembered, like a fool, being led to the cabin we once visited as pups, and Aiden telling me that if we couldn’t patch things up that night, then he would agree to a divorce. Why else would I have come in the first place, otherwise?

I was so naive.

Looking at everything now, I realized just how foolish my thoughts were. Why would my abusive husband need me to come to a secluded location to work on our marriage? Otherwise, he would agree to a divorce. How could I have fallen for such an obvious ploy?

I shook my head in disappointment and regret.

Was this the afterlife? Why was it so dark? I knew I didn’t commit any crimes or sins against the Goddess, so why wasn’t I welcomed into the bright and warm Meadow?
