Damon, you know, Amara likes you right, so why are you asking me to ask her out? Darius asked, a hint of frustration in his voice. Damon chuckled softly, shaking his head.

Amara likes me? Damon scoffed, shaking his head again. “Amara could never like me, Darius, you're just seeing things wrong. Besides, I could never like her.

She's not in my league, and she's definitely not my type. I like my women wild, and Amara—she’s anything but that.” The lie came smoothly off Damon’s lips, even as it stung his wolf.

Darius studied his brother's face, wondering why Damon never saw Amara the way he did. To him, Amara was the perfect woman—kind, strong, and beautiful.

But to Damon, she was nothing more than a maid. “I'm telling you, Amara has a huge crush on you,” Darius insisted. For a moment, Damon’s heart fluttered at the idea, but he quickly masked it with a loud scoff.

“You're seeing things that aren't there, brother. Amara doesn't have a crush on me, and even if she did, there's no chance of us ever being a thing. I don't like her, and I never will,” he declared firmly.

He turned to leave, but as he reached the door, he paused, gripping the doorknob. “If I were you, I'd make her mine before heading off to the Alpha’s Academy.

You might come back and find she's already taken by someone who doesn't deserve her.” With that, Damon opened the door and walked out.

Back in his room, Damon collapsed onto his bed, staring up at the ceiling. His heart ached, and his wolf howled with discomfort.

But what could he do? He'd made this decision years ago, and he had to stick to it, even if it hurt. Meanwhile, Darius took a long sip of his drink, Damon’s words replaying in his mind.

He was certain about Amara’s feelings for his brother, but Damon had just made it clear he would never see Amara in that way. So why was he still holding himself back from confessing his own feelings to her?

Be patient, Darius. Our mate is out there, his wolf advised. But Darius wasn't interested in that. He wasn't interested in being with any other woman but Amara. He'd watched her grow into the incredible woman she was.

And he'd fallen deeply in love with her, but when he saw how she loved Damon and only saw him as a friend, his heart broke.

That heartbreak turned him into a playboy—dating and sleeping around in a futile attempt to forget her. But as the years passed, his love for her only grew stronger.

A soft knock on his door pulled him from his thoughts. When he called the person in, he saw it was his close friend, James. “Hey, man,” James greeted, giving Darius their signature handshake before sitting beside him.

“You okay?” he asked, sensing something was off. Darius hesitated before speaking, his voice heavy with uncertainty. “I want to confess my feelings to Amara, but I'm scared she'll reject me, and it will ruin our friendship.”

James nodded thoughtfully. “I get it, man. It's not easy to put your heart on the line, especially when you're afraid of losing what you already have. But if you never tell her, you'll never know. You could spend the rest of your life wondering what if.”

Darius sighed deeply, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the arm of his chair. “I know. But she's always been so close to Damon. I've seen the way she looks at him. It's like admiration or something.”

James chuckled. “Or something,” he echoed. “But Damon has always made it clear he doesn't see her that way. You know how he is—stubborn and full of himself. If he can't see what's right in front of him, that's his loss.”

Darius’s eyes brightened with a flicker of hope. “You really think so? That maybe she doesn't feel that way about him anymore?” James shrugged.

“Why not? People change. Feelings change. Maybe she's been waiting for you to make a move all this time.”

Darius leaned back, considering James’s words. “But what if I'm wrong? What if she still loves him and I just make a fool of myself?”

James sighed, placing a reassuring hand on Darius’s shoulder. “Look, you've been in love with her for years. You owe it to yourself to find out. If she rejects you, at least you'll know where you stand. You'll have closure, and you can finally move on.

But if she doesn’t, then maybe you have a chance at something real—something worth fighting for.”

Darius swallowed hard, his mind racing. “I just don't want to lose her. As a friend.”

James gave a sympathetic smile. “Sometimes, to gain something more, you have to risk losing what you already have.”

Darius stared at the floor, feeling the weight of his decision pressing down on him. “You're right,” he whispered, looking up at James.

“I have to tell her. I can't keep living like this.”

James nodded encouragingly. “That's the spirit. And whatever happens, just remember, you're not alone. I've got your back.”

Darius took a deep breath and stood up, a mix of fear and determination coursing through him. “Thanks, man. I think I'll go find her now, before I lose my nerve.”

James grinned and patted him on the back. “Go get her, champ. I'll be right here.”

Darius nodded and headed toward the door.

As he stepped into the hallway, his heart raced—each step bringing him closer to what could be the most important conversation of his life. His thoughts were filled with images of Amara—her smile, her laugh, the way her eyes sparkled when she was excited.

He realized that no matter what happened, he couldn’t go another day without knowing how she truly felt.

When he reached the door to the laundry room, he noticed it was slightly ajar, and voices drifted out.

“Where is the money I asked for, Amara?” a harsh voice demanded.

Darius recognized it as Veronica, one of the female servants.

“I don't have any money, Veronica,” Amara’s voice replied, sounding frustrated and anxious.

Veronica scoffed bitterly. “If you don't give me what I want, I'll tell everyone you're in love with Damon. I'll tell them how I saw you sniffing his shirt, how you have pictures of him under your pillow, how I caught you pleasuring yourself while looking at his photo.”

Veronica’s voice was full of malice. Darius’s eyes widened, and a crashing weight fell upon his heart as the hope he had clung to shattered into pieces.

“Please, keep your voice down,” Amara pleaded, fear evident in her tone. “I'll get you the money tonight.”

A single tear rolled down Darius’s cheek. At that moment, he knew he hadn’t been wrong.

Amara was madly in love with Damon. She was deeply in love with his brother, and he was no match for that feeling.

Devastated, he stormed back to his room, where a confused James was waiting.

“Are you all right?” James asked with concern, standing up quickly as he saw the tears in Darius’s eyes.

Darius shook his head, squeezing his eyes shut for a moment, trying to hold back the flood of emotions.

“She loves Damon, James,” he choked out, his voice breaking. “She’s madly in love with him, and I stand no chance.”

James’s heart broke, seeing his friend in such a state. And he knew he had to do something about it.

“Yes, you still have a chance, Darius. I'll help you win Amara's love—one way or another,” James declared, with a determined look, making Darius frown in confusion.

“What do you mean by that?” Darius asked, unsure of James’s intentions.

A sly grin spread across James’s face. “Oh, you'll see,” he replied, a hint of mischief in his voice.

“Do either of you want to be betrothed? If there is any young damsel you desire, speak now, and I will arrange an engagement to ensure no one else claims her while you are away for these five years,” Alpha Richardson said, offering the same suggestion his father had given him when he went for his own training. “No one, Father,” Damon replied without hesitation. There was no other lady he desired apart from the one he had already rejected—Amara. Alpha Richardson furrowed his brow and glanced at Damon, wondering why his son declined so quickly. “Why, son?” Alpha Richardson asked, his gaze curious. Damon sighed and ran a hand through his hair before meeting his father’s eyes. “Because I want to marry my mate. I believe she’s out there,” he lied smoothly. His wolf growled in protest, but Damon ignored it. Alpha Richardson nodded. “That is a wise choice,” he muttered, turning to his other son, Darius, who had been quiet and lost in thought—his mind consumed with Amara. “Are you ok

Damon, you are here… Antonia stammered in fear, while Damon nodded. Sensing her panic, he knew Antonia was up to something. And strangely, he felt compelled to find out what it was—something he could have easily brushed aside. It was her personal life, and he shouldn’t have been interested… but somehow, he was. “Who was on the line? And who is this person that has just three days to comply?” Damon asked, raising an eyebrow. Antonia swallowed nervously, trying to think of an excuse. She knew Damon well—knew how smart he was—and she had to say something convincing, or he would suspect her. Being suspected by him was the last thing she wanted. Antonia quickly masked her fear with a nervous smile. “Oh, Damon, it’s nothing serious,” she began, trying to sound casual. “Just some friendship drama, you know how it is.” Damon’s eyes narrowed, clearly not buying it. “Excuse—friend drama?” he repeated, his tone skeptical. “Who were you trying to convince, Antonia? Me or yourself?” His voice

Damon, we need to talk! Luna Anita yelled as she burst into Damon’s room. She walked over to where he was seated and stood before him with folded arms. “I heard you tried whipping Amara with a belt. Is that true?” she asked, hoping Damon would deny it. She couldn’t believe he would do such a thing. Damon, filled with guilt, couldn’t say a word. Rather, he ran a hand through his hair and looked away, unable to face his mother. His silence made her realize that what Darius had reported to her was true. For a moment, she couldn’t believe it. She couldn’t believe her kind-hearted son, who had loved Amara so dearly when they were little, would consider flogging her with a belt—something he had never done before. Even when a maid did something terrible and she wanted to discipline them, Damon would always be the one to beg for mercy on their behalf. So what happened? Why was he acting so cold and harsh toward Amara? She took a deep breath and sat across from Damon, who still couldn’t ho

“What’s on your mind, Damon?” Lisa asked, her voice soft. She had noticed he hadn’t been himself since the moment she arrived. “I’m fine. Stop with the questions,” Damon replied tersely, his eyes closing to block out his thoughts. He had summoned Lisa, hoping to distract himself from the constant thoughts of Amara. But even as he lay with her, his mind drifted back to the one woman he couldn’t forget. Suddenly, a knock came on the door, and his brow furrowed. He wasn’t expecting anyone. “The door is open,” he called out, gesturing for the person to enter. The door opened, and Damon was surprised to see Amara walking into his room with a tray of coffee in her hand. He hadn’t requested it, but as usual, he always had his coffee first thing in the morning—and Amara kept to that routine. “Oh, did you ask the maid to bring me coffee?” Lisa cooed, kissing Damon’s cheek with a flirtatious grin. “How thoughtful, baby.” She signaled for Amara to come forward with the tray. Amara, whose

I’m so sorry,” Amara apologized, her cheeks flushing a deep shade of crimson as she quickly averted her gaze, trying to keep her eyes anywhere but on Darius’s bare form. Her heart raced, her breath catching in her throat as she stumbled backward, her foot catching on the edge of the rug. Darius, equally surprised, froze for a moment before his lips curled into a slow, amused smile. “Amara,” he said, his voice carrying a teasing lilt, “stop acting like you’ve just seen a ghost.” He chuckled softly, clearly not as bothered that Amara had seen him naked as she was. Amara’s face burned even more, and she quickly turned around, her back to him, trying to maintain whatever shred of dignity she had left. “I’m so sorry, Darius. I didn’t know you were— I mean, I thought you were out,” she stammered, wishing she could disappear into the ground right then and there. Darius chuckled again, seeming to enjoy her flustered state. “It’s okay, Amara, no harm done,” he said casually. She could h
