Damon stood frozen, his fists still clenched, but his expression horrified. I didn’t mean Amara. I didn’t see you.

He stammered, stepping forward. Darius’s eyes flashed with anger as he growled at him.

Stay back.

Darius’s voice was like a thunderclap, stopping Damon in his tracks.

You’ve done enough.

Amara groaned softly, her head throbbing, but she managed to blink up at Darius.

I’m fine, she whispered, though her voice was weak.

Darius ignored her reassurance, his attention focused entirely on her as he cradled her protectively.

No, you’re not, he said firmly. You’re hurt.

Damon took another step forward, his hands raised as if to show he meant no harm.

I didn’t mean to hit her, he said, his voice strained with guilt. It was an accident.

Damon hated himself at that moment. How could he be so careless no

It had been hours since Darius angrily left her room, and he hadn’t returned. Amara sighed, her gaze drifting to the window where the dark night pressed against the glass. She glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already 07:00 p.m., and there was still no sign of Darius. A maid had come earlier asking if she needed anything, but Amara had sent her away, claiming she was fine. Amara felt pressured and wanted to use the restroom, but she couldn’t move her legs, as she needed assistance. Her personal nurse wouldn’t start until tomorrow, leaving her utterly alone. Amara sighed at her helplessness and stared at her legs, trying to move them, but they wouldn’t respond. She knew she would use her legs again eventually. They were already healing, but it would take at least two weeks before she could start walking. She wondered how she was going to cope with being crippled for the next two weeks.

The sleek, black SUV drove into the mansion, and after it stopped, Darius got down from the backseat and moved to the other side of the car. One of the guards took out Amara’s wheelchair from the boot of the car, but Darius shook his head. Just take it upstairs to her room. I’ll carry her. Darius said to the guard, and opened the door to Amara’s side of the car. You don’t have to do it. I can use the wheelchair, Amara suggested. But Darius shook his head in disapproval. No, let me do it. Darius leaned into the car, his strong arms effortlessly wrapping around Amara as he lifted her out. Amara sighed softly, her protests quieting as she rested her hands on his chest. The faint scent of his cologne filled her senses, grounding her. You don’t always have to be the hero, Amara murmured as Darius began walking toward the mansion. It’s not about being a hero, he replied, his voice low but stea

I think you should leave. Amara demanded. Damon’s eyes widened, but he quickly masked it with a blank look and glanced at Amara and Darius, before turning around and leaving, not wanting them to see his pain. As he shut the door, Amara felt a slight discomfort in her chest. She could see the pain in his eyes when she asked him to leave, but she had to send him away to prevent an argument between them. She knew Damon wouldn’t see it that way, and she wished she could explain it to him, but that would have to be later. What are you thinking about? Darius asked when he noticed she had been quietly staring at the door. Amara inhaled deeply and looked back at Darius. It’s nothing, she lied. Darius could tell she wasn’t being truthful, but he didn’t want to press further, so he decided to let it go. He sat on the bed beside Amara and took her hand into his. Don’t worry, you wil

Slowly, Amara opened her eyes, and the first thing that struck her was the pain all over her body. She felt like her body had been run over by a truck. Groaning softly, she looked around and realized she was in the hospital, lying in one of the beds. But before she could gather her thoughts, the door opened. And she looked at it to notice Darius walking in. The moment he saw that Amara was awake, he ran up to her side. Amara, you are awake. Thank the goddess, he exclaimed in relief as he placed a tender kiss on her forehead. Amara furrowed her brow as she tried recalling what had happened, and then she remembered it all—how she was pushed by a man. Suddenly, she began to panic, and Darius noticed. You don’t have to worry about anything, Amara. We are already going after the person who pushed you. Just relax and trust me. Darius assured her while gently str

The nurse, clearly startled, stammered. She’s in the emergency room, Alpha. She’s in surgery. Before she could finish, Darius was already moving, his long strides taking him toward the emergency ward. James hurried to catch up, calling out, Alpha, wait. Darius pushed through the doors, his sharp gaze locking on Damon, who was pacing the hallway like a caged animal. Their eyes met, and for a moment, the brothers stood frozen, their shared pain and fear reflected in each other’s expressions. You’re here. What are you doing here? Darius asked in anger. He was pained that Damon was there before him. Can we not do this now, please? Damon responded. His voice was hoarse. He looked exhausted, his usually composed demeanor shattered. Darius’s jaw tightened, but he pushed down his emotions. What happened? Darius asked, his voice trembling slightly. Damon ran a hand through his hair, his frustration evident. She fell from t

Mate! Damon’s wolf howled in anguish, its cry reverberating through his mind like a thunderclap. A wave of searing pain rippled through him, making him stagger to his feet. His heart clenched as though gripped by an unseen hand, and his chest burned with an unbearable ache. Alpha, Damon, what’s wrong? his beta Sampson asked worriedly, his brows furrowed in concern. But Damon couldn’t answer. His wolf was clawing at his mind, its howls growing louder, more desperate. Amara, Damon gasped in fear and pain. Swiftly, he tried to make a mind link, but did not get a response from her. Without another word, Damon stormed out of his study. Sampson, alarmed and confused, quickly followed as Damon tore through the mansion. Damon snatched the keys from the driver. How far— Sampson began, but Damon silenced him with a glare, his grey eyes blazing. He slid into the driver’s seat. Slamming the door
