Josie's POV

After the meeting with the king's grandmother, I toured the castle. The property was lovely, and they had horses. I love horses, so I went to the stables to check them out. A few workers were working, but they didn't pay any attention to me. I stopped in front of a tall, black horse. He was majestic. I touched his fur and moved on, going back to the house. Suddenly, King Ronan was in my path. He stood, his intense gaze washing over me, and I felt hot all over my body. I nervously placed my engagement ring, and his eyes turned to it, suddenly darkening and then glowing. What the fuck? Was it a lycan thing? Nonetheless, it scared me.

Suddenly, his gaze snapped sideways, and I followed. Sadie was snarling, eyes ablaze at me, and she was growling lowly. Ominous. She marched towards me menacingly, and I caught a glance of her claws. My heart started to pound, and beads of sweat ran down my back. I stepped back in fear.

Ronan rushed to her before she could reach me, and he pulled her in an embrace. My heart ached to see him like that. I've never felt this way before. Why did it hurt when I barely knew the guy? Sadie was crying, growling, and snarling all at once.

"She is taking everything I worked hard for," she sobbed in his arms. I just stood there, watching them and not knowing what to do. Ronan glared at me before taking her away, and a tear streamed down my face.

I went to my room and grabbed my phone. There was a message from my little brother, a message from my parents, and a missed call from Jonathan. I called Jonathan back immediately, but he didn't answer. My heart sank. I FaceTimed my brother, and his cheesy smile greeted me, and we chatted. I didn't want to speak to my parents just yet.

...

I was getting ready for the party with Princess Flora's help. I did my makeup and straightened my hair before styling it in my usual curtain bangs.

"I love your hair," Flora said, smiling as she looked at me through the mirror.

"Thank you. I love yours, and how you style it."

"Gigi said I need to grow up and change my style," she murmured, a frown on her pretty face.

"I like your style. It's whimsical and princessy." I'd only seen her a few times, but whenever I do, I can't stop admiring her style and beauty.

Loud howls came from the garden suddenly, and I jumped, clutching my chest. Alarm must have been written on my face because she came close and held my shoulders, comforting me.

"It's okay, don't be scared. There are woods beyond the gardens, I'm sure it's some lycans who went for a run," she explained, and I nodded, a little embarrassed for being so scared.

"Um, do you turn at will, or are there days when you do, maybe on a full moon?"

"We turn at will, but when the moon is full, our emotions are more heightened, and we are at our most powerful," she explained with a soft smile.

Mate, King Ronan had mentioned that he was mates with Sadie. I wanted to ask her, but there was a knock on the door, a maid telling us it was time to go out now.

I looked in the mirror once more. I'm wearing a luxurious silk-lace slip dress and heels. My hair is in an elegant bun. I look stunning, sensual even. A smile touched my lips.

We left the room and headed down to the garden. I immediately stopped when I saw the garden was full and didn't see a single familiar face. I started feeling apprehensive and sick. Flora suddenly wrapped her arm around me and smiled at me.

"Let's go," she said, and we walked in. I hated this, so many lycan eyes on me. Judging me, gossiping, and looking downright disgusted.

Music was playing, and people were already drinking their beers or wine. There was chatter amongst them. The women were tall and gorgeous, and the men were good-looking and muscular. They were superior indeed, even in their looks.

"Such an attention whore, why would she dress like that?" a girl sneered, not low enough, but I had a feeling that she just wanted me to hear her. She and her three friends were glaring at me. Compared to what they were wearing, I looked like a saint with only my back exposed!

"Don't mind Tasha, she's just jealous!" Flora whispered, taking me to the booth of drinks.

We got our mocktails, but I wished I got something with alchol. I needed it to ease the tension in my muscles.

Kane approached her first, and I beamed at the sight of him for some reason. We exchanged pleasantries a little before he walked away, and then two very good-looking guys approached us.

"Good evening, Luna. My name is Esau, and this is my cousin, Paul. We are the beta's cousins," he said and bowed his head. Luna? I thought Sadie was that. What was the Luna? And who is a beta?

"Welcome to the pack," Paul said.

"Thank you," I awkwardly bowed to them because they did it, and they looked surprised. I glanced at Flora, who muffled a laugh and shook her head.

"No, you can't bow. Bowing is a way lycans show respect to you as their Luna, their superior," she explained gently.

"I'm sorry, I don't know protocol. I'll learn more," I said.

The two men smiled at me warmly, "It's alright, no pressure, you'll figure it out," Paul said.

"And why did you bow like that?" Esau asked, and we all suddenly burst out laughing.

A menacing growl erupted from the crowd, and my eyes zeroed in on my husband. He was glaring at me as if I had killed a litter of kittens, in their case, puppies.

  • The Lycan King And His Mate   Sulking

"You have been sulking for two days. Get out of bed now," Autumn tries to yank the blanket from me, but I hold it tighter. I didn't think that the lycan king's absence would make me this sad, but it has. It feels stupid because the guy didn't even like me and he has been nothing but I jerk to me, except when he killed me in the infirmary. "Josie! Enough, you need to get a shower!" Summer said sternly. I buried my face between the pillows. "Yes, we are going shopping to cheer you up, and afterward, I'll tell the news I have from the border," Autumn bargained, and I sat up, grabbing her little shirt. "Border? What happened? Please tell me, is he okay?" I started to panic. "He's alright. Your husband is the lycan king and the most powerful lycan in the world." I got out of bed, took a shower, put my hair in a messy bun, put on jeans and a vast tank top, put on pumps, and came out. "Can we just hang out here?" I said. "No. Let's go have fun," They sang, each grabbing my arm an

  • The Lycan King And His Mate   Leaving

JosieMy eyes fluttered open, and a small smile touched my lips. I had a slight headache. Even though the king left the dinner party, everyone else continued to party and drink. Mrs Mattain and her group wanted to drink and chat with me. It seemed I had impressed them with how I spoke to Sadie. I sat up and stretched, still happy when my eyes went to the corner of the room, and I gasped. Ronan was sitting in a chair, watching me intensely. What happened in the clinic flooded my mind, and my skin burned. Will I ever forget what happened? "I'm going to the border. You must have heard that we are at war. It's getting worse, and my men need me," he said suddenly, his voice cold and void of emotions. "I see. How long will you be there?" I asked. "Six to eight weeks." I almost choked on my saliva. Six to eight weeks? I won't see him for that long, my heart ached suddenly at that. He treated me like shit, but her hand was fond of him. I felt tears in my eyes. Stop it Josie, you loo

  • The Lycan King And His Mate   Fuming

RonanI was pissed, not because Sadie ran off crying, but because she made such an effort to humiliate my wife, and I was pleased that Josie defended herself brilliantly. Everyone seemed impressed by her witty comebacks. I didn't appreciate Sadie's indirect insults to her wife, and I will speak to her about it. But right now, I'm fuming because a fucking stranger, an enemy of mine, sent her flowers. There was no seal. No signature on the note I received. To the king, You took everything from me. Now I will take everything from you. Your human wife is lovely. I had the pleasure of spending many hours with her. She was scared, but an interesting human. I see why you look at her like that! Every step she takes, I'm watching. I want you to know that when the time comes, I will exact my revenge. I won't strike quickly. I want you to suffer and feel the helplessness I felt those many years ago.Every scream will remind you of your failure to protect her. You will search for her and cal

  • The Lycan King And His Mate   Dinner Party

Everyone was already gathered, drinking and chatting. The moment I stepped inside the room, everyone went quiet, and all eyes came to me. My breath shuddered. I wanted to turn back and leave, but instead I swallowed and held my head high. Ronan's eyes turned dark suddenly, and I shivered under those hungry eyes. His eyes traveled down every inch of me, and I suddenly felt hot over my body."Ladies and gentlemen, the Luna Queen, Josephine Atwood," Gigi said. There was a proud smile on her lovely face. One by one, the important delegates introduced themselves to me. I felt eyes on me, hot, and out of my eye, I saw Tobias and Sadie glaring daggers at me. I only smirked, and Sadie gasped, her expression turning dark. The human ambassador kissed my cheek in greeting, and a low growl sounded. I knew it well; it belonged to my dear husband. The ambassador murmured something I couldn't catch and excused himself before we could speak properly. My eyes found my husband again. He was talking to

  • The Lycan King And His Mate   I Want You

JosieI sat up and removed the IV tube attached to my vein. There was so much emotion in his gaze that it surprised me. There was anger, relief, sadness, and desire. Ronan just stood there, watching me, looking at every part of my body, as if he was expecting something. I felt hot under his penetrating gaze. "Who took you?" he asked, getting me out of the thought of him. I blinked, not understanding his question. Then it came back: the kidnapping and that masked man. Everything he said to me about Ronan, his parents, and how he would kill the human race. My hands started to tremble uncontrollably, and tears blurred my eyes. Ronan hated the humans so much that he was willing to take me as his wife to let me get their guard down so that he could attack them when they least expected it."I -I don't remember," I whispered. I couldn't remember his face, but I did remember everything else. And I don't know if what he said about Ronan was true. I needed to investigate without telling anyone

  • The Lycan King And His Mate   The Infirmary

RonanThe words escaped my mouth before I could stop them. My men all went quiet. I couldn't understand why I said what I said. Josie wasn't my mate; my mate was Sadie, and she was probably here somewhere with one of the search parties, but I don't care about her this time. Josie was really taking over my mind and body, and I needed to stop it before I fucked everything up. She was human, and I hated her like I did all her kind. They were traitors and killers. Rafe was suddenly on alert, and I caught her scent. "She's close. Spread out," I commanded, getting out of my trance. I frantically started running because, other than her scent, I felt a male's. It was fading, but distinct, as if it were familiar to me.I slowed in my tracks when I saw her small body lying on the ground, passed out just under a fallen tree branch. I growled, I felt the ground beneath me shake. Josie!I cradled her in my arms. She was pale and had blood coming from the side of her head, and her cheek as red,
