"Is my lady going anywhere today?" Nyra inquired as she helped Arianna brush her hair.

Despite Arianna insisting she could do it herself, Nyra declined, stating that the King had commanded her to take care of Arianna to the fullest.

"No," Arianna replied in a flat tone, her expression slightly dull. "I'll stay in my room. Alone."

Nyra looked at her through the mirror, her face etched with concern.

"Is my lady troubled? I can tell you stories to lighten your mood," she offered gently.

"That’s sweet of you, Nyra. But no, I want to be alone," Arianna insisted politely, and Nyra relented, continuing to brush her hair in silence.

The day passed slowly. Arianna waited, mind rehearsing what she would say once the King asked. However, King Duncan seemed quite busy with the Grand Festival, which was now only five days away.

Another layer of anxiety settled in Arianna’s heart—something she hoped to discuss with him. She had practiced every word over and over, phrasing it in a way that wouldn’t

As the soldiers approached, they suddenly paused, as if struck by something, including Sahrak. Their eyes rolled back into their sockets and their bodies collapsed to the floor with a thud.Sahrak, the last, frowned before falling.Gatha froze, staring at the sudden unconscious men, her breaths hitched.Clicks echoed, approaching the dungeon. The Seer, Evelora, appeared, blind and supported by her staff.“Please tell me I arrived just in time,” the old woman said.Silence.Then stunned, Gatha spoke. “You did that to them?”“Yes, Lady Gatha. I have powers, of course, but I only use them as the heavens permit,” Evelora stepped in further. “I got the king’s message as well.”Evelora’s male servants matched, and Gatha couldn’t help but wonder how they had even gotten there. Or just how powerful this High Seer truly was. “Worry not. The king’s body shall be in good hands,” Evelora said as her servants carried the king’s body away. They brought in a random soldier, placed him in the coffin

{Lunaris Citadel}After Arianna was dragged away to be executed, Sahrak removed Selene’s mask and stepped toward Duncan’s body with a sword. He paused, staring at the face of the so-called strongest male of the realm, about to have a sword plunged in his heart and his mate killed. He nearly laughed at the thought.Mages like him were forbidden to use dark magic. Because of King Duncan’s rule, Sahrak and his people had been forced to live in discreet.Ending Duncan meant a new life for him. He’d get to do whatever he wanted. He had been delighted when Lord Valoreth came to him.“Well, well, well, King Duncan,” he smirked, raising the blade. “I’ve been dying to do this for a long time.”“Let me in! It’s a message from Lord Valoreth!” a tiny voice rang from outside, making Sahrak halt.“Who’s that?” he asked one of the soldiers in the room.“A maid. She says she has a message from Lord Valoreth,” the soldier replied.Sahrak exhaled. “What does he want now? Let her in.”Amy stumbled in wi

FLASHBACK {Seven years ago} The realm will fall and so will its king. Duncan was breathing hard, veins bulging at his forehead as he struggled with his Quill. He could feel it. The unmistakable poison spreading through his nerves. Painless, but deadly. Ash was already at the edge, fighting it, and he knew he wouldn’t have much time left. Why? Why did it have to be on a day like this? Not finding out about the poisoning plot had been his greatest mistake. Connecting the dots too late was his downfall, but how could he have stopped it? It was written to happen. He had thought he could rewrite fate. Stop it. But he was wrong. It hurt. To know that once his eyes closed, they might never open again. So he decided to write down his plans. The ones he had prepared the night he found out Arianna was pregnant. He selected a few he could trust. Barely. But he hoped to the gods they would hear him. At least, that had been the damned purpose of going to the ritual before Aria

“Seven hundred. Shh.” She playfully placed a finger to her lips, then whispered, “Duncan doesn’t know my real age. Seers don’t usually live that long, but the heavens paused my aging so I could suffer properly for my crime. I was released just over forty years ago. That’s when I met the King and became his High Seer.”Arianna’s throat tightened as she tried to process her words, but Evelora continued.“The same thing happened to your mother, Drakora. Even though I interfered, the war was destined to happen. That was fate. She tampered with it by breaking the heavens’ rule and was punished for it. But someone was born—someone meant to set everything back in motion.”Silence.Arianna’s brows furrowed deeply. “Me?”“Of course,” Evelora shrugged, one hand gently stroking the beast’s fur. “Why do you think you bear the blood of two realms and were mated to the King of the moon realm?” the old woman said softly. “Why do you think the heavens saved you and gave you that power? It was to repa

Arianna’s eyes darted around the small place, her dry throat tightening and her head reeling with thoughts driving into her mind. Books… a cup of tea?“Don't…” she almost choked on her words. “Don't tell me you've been here this whole time.”Silence.That was enough to give her the answer, and her lips parted in disbelief.“I can explain,” he said. She pulled herself away from his hold and turned to look at him.Her breath seized. In the dark, he had slightly changed. Longer hair, a short beard like those times, golden eyes with sharp irises indicating his restraint. They looked relieved, happy—extremely happy to see her—yet with a hint of guilt. They didn't glow bright like before; it was as though they had lost most of their light. And then the cracks. So many dark, jagged cracks on his pale skin, spreading across his frame and disappearing through his tunics and pants. Those cracks were like the ones she saw when she satisfied his rut for the first time. His chest was heaving, his

Brigid stumbled back, paled. This is bad. This is really bad.She froze at the sound of footsteps. Shit. Didn’t that damn mage stop the soldiers? She looked at Arianna’s pale face. The news had been so much to take it, she was worried how devastating Arianna must be right now. They couldn’t let those soldiers see her like this. Brigid quickly turned to distract them. They had just passed the second gate when they saw her approaching"Stop right there."The soldiers obeyed but frowned."You’re not going in there."Silence.They scoffed. "We are high ranked soldiers. Ones who solely follow Lord Valoreth’s orders. Just because you’re the Queen doesn’t mean you can stop us."Brigid glanced down at their yellow badges. They were indeed Valoreth’s men. Strong scent. Lycans."The coffin is... shaking. Whatever is inside it is dangerous. The king's beast.""That’s why we’re heading there. We are Lycan soldiers, Your Majesty."Brigid swallowed. Arianna needed more time in there. ____Arianna
