Ronan POV

"I can walk," Arden whispered. Her voice sounded raspy, scraped raw from Garrick’s grip.

She took one step forward away from the wall, but her knees buckled on the oily floor as she stumbled to the side.

I stepped in before she could hit the ground and scooped her up into my arms. I pulled her left leg over my forearm and rested her back against my chest.

"Put me down," she gasped, her small hands coming up to push weakly against my lapels. "I do not need you to carry me."

"Stop fight

ARDEN POV"Take your hand off my chest, Celeste," I said.Celeste didn't move her finger. Her fake smile vanished, replaced by a cold, sharp glare."Or what, Arden?" she sneered. Before I could answer, Celeste drew back her arm and shoved me with both hands. My back slammed into the wooden wall paneling. A dull thud echoed down the quiet, empty hall. Pain shot through my shoulder blades, and the raw bruises on my throat throbbed beneath my high collar."You think you can just walk around this tower like you own it?" Celeste hissed, stepping closer until her face was inches from mine. "You think nobody notices what you're doing?""I am doing my work," I said, my voice steady despite the sting in my shoulders."Your work?" Celeste laughed, a harsh, dry sound. "Your work was supposed to be sitting in a back room mixing herbs. But you couldn't just do that, could you?"She pressed her fingers deep into the shoulder of my dark jacket, trapping me against the wall."You stole the King's tim

ARDEN POV"I told them no!" the clerk said, his eyes wide with genuine fear. "I had never seen either of you before tonight! Please, lady, you need to go. If they find out I talked to you, I will lose my job!""Thank you," I said softly, pulling my medical badge off the counter.Mira and I turned and walked quickly out of the office, letting the heavy door click shut behind us. We moved down the dimly lit hallway until we reached the quiet shelter of the emergency exit stairs.Mira grabbed my arm, her expression tight with sudden anxiety. "Arden, this is dangerous, what of the guards, If they realize you were here, they’ll lock down Aurelian Tower completely.""Which means I need to get back before my guard detail realizes I'm missing," I said, patting the pocket where the USB drive rested. "I have what we came for.""How are you getting back?" Mira asked, looking down at my soaked boots and thin jacket. "You can't walk four miles in a torrential downpour, and waiting on a late-night

ARDEN POV"And he used the exact same corporate pipeline Marcellis Biotech used to hide your kids," Mira added, pressing the USB drive into my hand. "The children's transport files and Ronan's poison are stored under the exact same master security clearance.""Why is Severin working with Marcellis Biotech?" I asked. "What secret are they trying to hide?""I don't have the full picture yet—the highest-tier files are double-encrypted," Mira admitted, her fingers trembling as she tapped the side of the drive. "But if you look at these raw timestamps. Severin didn't just order chemical stabilizers. He personally flagged your old medical logs from Irongate prison years ago, right around the time Marcellis wiped your children's transfer records."I froze, the damp air sudden and sharp in my throat. "My medical logs? Why would Severin care about my prison blood tests?""That’s the part that doesn’t add up," Mira whispered, pulling up a series of red-flagged codes on her phone screen to show

ARDEN POVShe pulled back, her hands gripping my arms firmly as her sharp eyes searched my face in the dim streetlight. She gasped when her gaze caught the edge of the dark medical wrap peeking out from beneath my high collar."What did they do to you?" Mira’s voice cracked, her eyes widening with rising panic. "What is that on your throat, Arden? Did they hurt you?""No, it's not what you think," I said, catching her wrists gently to calm her trembling hands. "It's a long story.""Starting with how Darius traded me like a sacrificial pawn to keep his corporate license," I said bitterly, guiding her toward the sheltered overhang near the basement service entrance. "The Lycan council needed someone who could purge synthetic rot, and my blood worked. But I couldn't write or text you—guards were posted outside my door twenty-four hours a day. I had to bribe a laundry maid with my last saved change and a promise of five hundred dollars just to get a basic charging cord smuggled.""Five hu

  • The Lycan King’s Forgotten Wife   Chapter 63: The Midnight Archive

ARDEN POVMy breath caught in my throat.Mira hadn't just stumbled onto a political scandal—in her search for my children, she had uncovered the root of the King's collapse. When King Ronan collapsed, Severin was the first to silence the doctors, as Dr Voss said, he seized the medical logs, and insisted it was a sudden, natural illness. I had assumed he was just controlling the damage to prevent panic in the tower—protecting the crown while investigating in secret. But this changed everything. Severin hadn't just covered up the poison after the fact. He had authorized the delivery of those chemical stabilizers three days before Ronan ever fell ill.My mind raced as I stared at the glowing glass. None of it made any sense. Severin was Ronan’s uncle. He was a former military commander, the one person whose absolute duty was to protect the King with his life. Why would an uncle do this to his own blood? Why order base compounds from Marcellis Biotech and then erase the paper trail? Was

ARDEN POVMy eyes opened to pale gray sunlight pouring through the wide glass window. The chair beside my bed was empty. The dark wooden legs rested on the rug, but the seat was bare. No coat hung over the back. No footsteps lingered on the floorboards. Ronan was gone. The small glass jar of blue moon-root balm sat on my nightstand next to a damp white hand towel. Beside the jar lay a folded piece of heavy cream paper, stamped with the silver crest of Aurelian Tower.I sat up slowly. My neck throbbed with a dull, aching heat. I reached up and touched the skin below my jaw. The blue ointment had dried into a thin, cool film, but the outline of Garrick's heavy fingers was already turning dark purple against my skin.I picked up the paper and unfolded it.The typing was sharp, black, and perfectly aligned:To the Medical Detail,A routine security audit of the lower service corridors is under way. Guard Garrick has been released from service following a failed audit. All other staff will
