[Cillian’s POV]

The absolute silence inside my study was heavy and entirely cold.

I stood perfectly still in front of the unlit stone fireplace. The dark steel of my battle armor felt like solid ice against my broad chest. My mind was racing, entirely consumed by the memory of the courtyard. The pieces of the puzzle were shifting in my head, and none of them fit together.

I needed answers.

The heavy metal lock on my study clicked loudly. The thick oak doors were shoved open, slamming against the

[POV: Lord Varis]Lord Torin and Lord Kelan were still shouting at each other over the spilled wine on the floor. The other nine lords stood in the shadows, looking like beaten dogs."Be quiet," I said. I did not yell. My voice was flat and calm.Torin stopped shouting and looked at me. "He took all our gold, Varis! We have nothing left!""We have our heads still attached to our necks," I replied, walking back to the wooden table. I pulled out my chair and sat down. "Sit down. All of you. Stop acting like frightened children and start thinking."Kelan wiped the small drop of blood from his throat with his sleeve and slowly sat down on a wooden crate. The other lords followed, pulling up chairs around the table."Why are we not packing the horses?" Kelan asked quietly. "If the Northern guards send a bird to King Cillian, he will march an army down here.""And who is he going to march against?" I asked, resting my hands neatly on the wood. "Did you sign your name on that mercenary's bla

Gaius grabbed the other two, groaning slightly under the weight. We practically ran out of the infirmary and up the wide stone steps leading to the main courtyard. The freezing night air hit my face the second we stepped outside. The courtyard was loud and full of movement. Fifty elite Northern soldiers were already mounted on massive, restless warhorses. Torches burned brightly along the walls. Cillian stood near the front of the pack beside his giant black stallion. He was dressed in thick black leather armor, with two heavy swords strapped to his back.A stable boy ran up to me, leading my own white horse by the reins.I handed the two heavy medical bags to a mounted soldier, who quickly tied them behind Gaius's saddle while two other men helped the old healer climb up onto a sturdy brown mare.I turned to my horse. I grabbed the leather saddle horn and lifted my boot to put it in the stirrup.A large, heavy hand closed around my upper arm, stopping me.I looked back. Cillian was s

He growled loudly, his golden eyes locked on mine. The beast was fighting hard for control, blinded by the need to kill."If you lose your mind right now, you cannot help him," I told him firmly, holding his jaw tight so he couldn't look away. "I know you are angry. I know you want blood. But Kaelen does not need a mindless beast right now. He needs his brother. Give me the King."Cillian froze. My words cut right through the red haze in his head.He closed his eyes tightly. His heavy chest rose and fell as he forced air into his lungs. Slowly, the sharp claws shrank back into normal fingers. When he opened his eyes again, the unnatural gold was receding, leaving the sharp, lethal focus of the Northern Warlord behind. He looked down at me and pressed his forehead hard against mine for one single second."Mercenaries," Cillian said, his voice rough and dead serious. "They ambushed him at the border. They used a paralyzing poison from the South. The Eastern healers are useless. The veno

Elian P.O.VThe fire in the stone hearth was dying down to red coals. It was past midnight. For the first time since I stepped foot inside the Blackwood stronghold, the castle was completely quiet. There were no marching boots in the hallways. There were no war councils downstairs. Selene was dead, the blood curse was gone, and Kaelen was sitting safely on his father's throne in the East.I sat on the thick rug near the fire, wearing a loose cotton shirt. Cillian sat on the edge of the bed right behind me. He wasn't wearing his heavy iron armor. His scarred shoulders were bare, and for once, the tight, hard knots in his back were gone. He reached down and ran his fingers slowly through my hair."You should be asleep," Cillian said quietly. His voice was a low rumble in the quiet room."I don't want to waste it," I answered, leaning my head back against his knee."Waste what?""The quiet," I said honestly. "I spent my whole life waiting for the next bad thing to happen. Tonight, nothin

  • The Lycan King’s Hidden Male Omega: MM Romance   You didn't just kill a King. You just woke up the Warlord!"

[POV: Lord Varis]The mountain watchtower went completely silent. The wind howling outside suddenly sounded deafening. My stomach dropped. A cold, sharp wave of absolute terror hit me. It was much colder than the draft blowing through the broken window. I looked at the mercenary's dirty, unbothered face. He actually did not understand what he had just done. He thought killing a King was just another job. He did not understand the web of alliances he had just set on fire."You let them escape?" I whispered. My hands started to shake. I pressed them flat against the wooden table to hide the trembling, but the wood rattled under my weight. "You let the Northern guards survive? You let them take the body back to the castle?""He is dead," the mercenary argued, looking annoyed. He crossed his thick arms over his leather chestplate. "What does it matter if he rots on the back of a horse or face down in the mud?""You fool!" I screamed.I slammed both of my hands hard on the table. The heavy

[POV: Lord Varis]The mountain watchtower was freezing. We did not have firewood. I sat at the rotting wooden table, rubbing my hands together to keep the blood moving. The other lords sat in the dark, shivering in their thin coats. No one spoke. We had been waiting for two days.Suddenly, heavy footsteps sounded on the stone stairs outside.Every lord in the room sat up straight. Kelan reached nervously for a small dagger on his belt. The wooden door was kicked open. It slammed hard against the stone wall.A man walked into the room. He wore dark, dirty leather armor. He was not the mercenary captain we had originally hired. This man was missing half of his left ear, and his face was covered in a fresh layer of dirt and dried blood. He walked directly to the table. He did not bow. He did not say a word of greeting. He reached behind his back, pulled out a massive object, and dropped it right in the center of the wooden table. It hit the wood with a heavy, deafening crash. The table s

Several people screamed. I slapped both hands over my mouth to keep from making a sound, biting down on my own palm so hard I tasted blood. My heart was beating so fast against my sore ribs that I thought my chest was going to split open. Panic. Blind, total, animal panic. My body got hot fast.

My ribs ached before I opened my eyes. That was how every morning started. Pain. A dull, steady ache burned on my left side where Alpha Thorne had kicked me two days ago. My crime? I hadn't scrubbed the blood out of the training mats quick enough. It wasn't just that my ribs ached. The screaming
