The constant rocking of the warship made my head spin in the pitch-black hold.

Heavy anti-magic chains bound my wrists and ankles, locking me inside the iron cage. Every time I tried to pull on the faint silver spark in my chest, the black runes etched into the metal flared up, shocking my body with icy pain.

"Stop fighting it, little queen," a cold voice sneered from the shadows outside the bars.

Freezing, pitch-black water slammed into us with the force of a falling mountain. The ship fractured in two, wooden beams splintering like dry twigs as the ocean rushed into the hold. The roaring sea swallowed the Emperor's mad laughter whole."LYRA!" Valen shouted, his voice cut off as salt water filled his mouth. He lunged through the churning foam, his strong fingers locking tightly around my hand. The weight of his golden armor began to drag him straight down into the black abyss, but he refused to let go.I focused every drop of the new golden-silver magic pulsing in my veins. The spark of our child’s light burned bright against the freezing dark.I wrapped a thick bubble of warm, glowing light around both of us, pushing the crushing water back."Hold on to me!" I cried, using the light barrier to fight against the wild ocean currents.Above us, through the clear water, we could see the bottom half of the warship sinking fast into the dark trench below. The Emperor was gone, drag

Every time I tried to pull on the faint silver spark in my chest, the black runes etched into the metal flared up, shocking my body with icy pain."Stop fighting it, little queen," a cold voice sneered from the shadows outside the bars. The Eastern General stepped into the dim torchlight, his dark dragon-scale armor clanking with every step. He held his black spear loosely in his grip, his cold silver eyes watching me like a hawk."The rune cage feeds on your power," the General said calmly. "The more magic you summon, the weaker your body becomes. You wouldn't want to hurt the tiny life inside you, would you?"I pressed my back against the cold iron wall, my hands resting protectively over my stomach. "Valen will come for me," I growled, my jaw tight. "He will tear your fleet to pieces."The General let out a low, mocking

The loud booming sound echoed off the stone castle walls, shaking the floor beneath our feet."They lied," I gasped, staring out at the ocean in pure horror. "They aren't giving us nine months!"Dozens of massive black warships cut through the dark waves, their heavy iron hulls crashing into the wooden docks of our lower city. Red fireballs shot through the night sky, raining down onto the harbor buildings below!"They wanted us distracted!" Valen growled, his golden aura flaring up like a raging fire.He didn't waste a second. Valen grabbed my hand, leading me quickly into the grand hall where the guards were already shouting and pulling their swords."Alexander!" Valen shouted over the chaos. "Sound the war horns! Evacuate every civilian from the lower harbor into the high fortress immediately!""Right away, My King!" Alexander shouted back, turning to lead a group of royal guards down the grand stairs.Maeve ran up to us, holding her silver bow with a quiver full of broadhead arrow

My breath hitched in my throat. My hands instantly flew to my stomach, covering it like a shield.Unborn child...?My mind raced in complete shock. I hadn't even realized it yet. But as I reached deep inside my soul, I felt it a tiny, warm spark of life resting safely inside me, pulsing with a faint, beautiful golden light."You're lying," I growled, my voice shaking with rage as my silver-gold magic flared bright around my fists. "Get off my balcony!"The masked stranger didn't even draw a weapon. He just stood there in the shadows, his cold eyes watching my every move from behind his silver mask."You cannot hide from the Eastern Empire, Queen Lyra," the man sneered softly. "The Emperor has watched your little war from across the sea. He knows you merged your silver blood with Prince Valen’s Alpha core. Your child carries the strongest bloodline in the entire world.""Lyra?"Valen’s deep voice called out from inside the grand hall. The heavy glass doors pushed open, and Valen steppe

"No, no, no!" Valen sobbed, his voice cracking as he desperately tried to gather the glowing white dust back into his hands. "Lyra, stay with me! Don't leave me!"My legs and arms were already gone, turned into floating sparks of bright white light. The pain in my chest was fading into a deep, peaceful warmth, but watching Valen weep above me broke what was left of my heart."I saved you..." I whispered, my voice barely a breeze in the freezing mountain air. "I kept my promise, Valen.""I don't care about being saved if I don't have you!" Valen roared into the dark sky.He didn't hesitate. Valen brought his hand to his own chest, plunging his fingers straight into the glowing Alpha mark on his heart.A blinding gold flame erupted from his chest, illuminating the entire snowy valley."Valen... stop!" I gasped as my torso began to turn into dust. "You'll destroy your own soul!""We share one bond, Lyra!" Valen growled through clenched teeth, his golden eyes blazing with pure, unstoppabl

Panic clawed at my throat as I knelt in the cold dirt beside Valen. The small golden spark on his blade flickered weakly, casting long, terrifying shadows across the cave walls. Dark black blood kept oozing through his fingers, soaking his leather armor."Valen, stay with me!" I cried out, tearing a strip of cloth from my cloak and pressing it firmly against his bleeding side.Valen let out a sharp, pained gasp. His face was deathly pale, sweat dripping down his forehead as the wolfsbane poison raced through his veins. His golden eyes were losing their shine, turning dark and glassy."Lyra..." he rasped out, his voice barely a whisper. "The cave... is completely sealed. You need to... get out before the air runs out...""I'm not leaving you!" I sobbed, tears spilling down my cheeks. "I lost you once, Valen. I am not losing you again!"Deep inside my mind, Selena’s spirit let out a cold, wicked laugh.“Look at him, human girl,” Selena mocked, her voice echoing in my skull. “The great A
