Chapter 9
YRENE'S POV The feeling started from my chest, traveling down to my stomach, and eventually to my legs, making me weak in the knees. A strange wobble that I was used to feeling began to work its way into my bones and it didn't help that people had started staring either. Ethan was handsome, the triplets were—there was no doubt about that, and me in contrast to them was a fat bloke who evoked laughter without even doing a thing. There were bound to be stares. He walked with a hand in his pocket, his eyes lingering on me and it felt like I began to burn. If Ethan looked at me for hours, I was sure all the fat on me would burn. His gaze was truly burning. He approached us and the smell of his cologne filled the air around me and it got into my nose even though my breathing had seized a while ago. I couldn't even look up at him, instead I looked at Kaden and Reece who had silly, expectant grins on their faces. "You're here already? Took you long enough." Kaden said, sipping from his glass of orange juice. Ethan looked around, scanning the restaurant and his gaze came to rest on me once more. "Leave." He simply said, and those words echoed over and over in my ears. Was he trying to give me a death sentence? Wait, what was his trick? Was he waiting to trip me so I'd fall over? Or was he going to pour some drink down my back? Or worse, food? Or did he intend to see who I'd obey between he, Reece and Kaden. If things continued the way they were going, I was bound to defy one of them. Worse, two. "Your feet turn to lead?" He asked, with a coldness in his voice that seemed to send spellings of doom all over my head. I moistened my dry lips and looked at Reece and Kaden. "You're going to leave?" Kaden asked, feigning shock. I looked up at Ethan, with a pleading look in my eye. There was so much Kaden and Reece would do if I defied them, but then again, his would be worse if I defied him, so I took a step. "Stop right there." Reece said, hitting a fist on the table. "Let her go." Ethan told him coolly and Kaden threw a piece of meat at me. It got stuck in my hair for a second before dropping down my face, smearing my eyelid with oil before it fell. I watched Kaden get up and felt his strong fingers wind down my arm. "Just give a reason. Any reason, Ethan. This could be much fun that you think. Or you think it's embarrassing?" Kaden asked, putting a hand on Ethan's arm. "I just think it's enough. There will be plenty of time to play with her, but for today, let's leave it." He told Kaden, before picking up a raisin stuck in a slice of bread, and throwing it into his mouth. Then he shrugged Kaden's arm off his and left with his hands back in his pockets. "Lovely Ethan has spoken. There will be indeed enough time to deal with Fatrene here, so how about we just leave? Besides, I lost my appetite the moment I smelled her sweat." Reece remarked and pushed away the plate of steak cooked to perfection, looking tender and delicious in my sight. As he left, Kaden looked at me, then wiped a ball of sweat off the side of my face affectionately, only to wipe it off on my sleeve agressively with a look of pure disgust on my face. I tell you, only when he left did I let out my breath. I looked at all the people who didn't mind staring at me and boiled in shame before rushing after the triplets. I didn't want to give them even the littlest reason to punish me further, and all my thanks for that day was to Ethan who had been miraculously sent by an angel to rescue me, however his reasons. ~ Immediately we got home, I disappeared into the kitchen as an excuse to avoid them searching for me and trying to find stuff for me to do. The dishes weren't much so I started by spooning off the leftovers on the them while trying to forget the incident that had happened earlier. Shortly, when my hands were slobbery with soap, Ethan came in and I almost made the grave mistake of letting the dish in my hands slip. It took me practicing embarrassing martial arts with my hands to finally balance the plate back in the sink and I smiled nervously, knowing that I looked nothing but annoying. He dropped his plate next to me and leaned against the wall, staring at me. My mind immediately became a jumble of thoughts and I couldn't even pick a single one of them. So many times, I was tempted to look at him but was scared to meet his piercing stare. "Give me a reason why you left earlier." He finally said and I turned to him, holding a little dish in my hands, eager to explain since he had asked. If only the other two had asked. "My friend is a bit of a jokester. She… she called and gave me the impression that she was in danger. I… I got really scared and had to find out what happened. I really didn't want to leave, I… I only wanted to… to make sure she was okay." I explained hastily, caressing the dish with my slippery, and nervous fingers. "And it was a prank?" He asked, closing an open cabinet door slowly. "Yes." I replied, and while watching his neck which suddenly seemed so smooth against the rough leather of his jacket, what ought to have happened from the onset happened. It was then I knew I had been doomed from the start. Someone, somewhere had cursed me to cause trouble that very day, and Ethan slowly stopped to look at what had happened. I knew that in seconds, my heart would burst in flames. Why? Why? It was all because the nasty dish fell.REECE'S POVI was fuming with anger as Mr. Flores left the gym room just like that. Even with what I had told him, he was still intent on punishing me? It felt like a boiling pot of stew was being prepared in the pit of my tummy. My feet couldn't stop tapping on the floor and with each second, I bit deeper into my lip. He closed the doors behind him with a slam and my gaze went to Yrene who looked every bit annoying at that moment. She was aware that I was staring at her because I could hear her increased heartbeat and see the rapid rise and fall of her chest. She turned slowly and I saw fear race through her large eyes as we locked eyes.I wanted to shout and rage at her. I wanted to hit her shoulder and tell her to fix the mess but something about the way her lower lip quivered involuntarily stopped me. She was scared and she was trying not to let it show. Her fingers found each other and began to tangle, fiddling with each other in anxiety.I suddenly lost my desire to rage at her,
YRENE'S POVWhen my eyes fluttered open, I was staring at the ceiling of the clinic. I closed my eyes back, not wanting to wake to whatever chaos awaited me. If truly Reece had gotten shouted at, then it was sure he would turn it on me.He would use his own anger to make sure I was dead, he would spell trouble for me! If only there was a way I could abate his anger. I really didn't want him to start with me again.I opened my eyes once more and this time, they widened before I snapped them shut once more. Why was Kaden sitting there with me!?What was he waiting for?My heart started to thrum as a cold shiver ran down my spine, my legs felt like lead and couldn't move, and I knew that in moments, sweat would break out on my forehead."You're awake, I guess. You heartbeat just accelerated." I heard him say in his chilly voice and something even chillier than his voice touched my arm and I shook. "Open your eyes, come on, I've been waiting for an hour already."Waiting? An hour? Why was
YRENE'S POVWhy were the brothers intent on ruining me? Wasn't being a slave to them enough? Why was he talking to Francesca. He had no business whatsoever with her. It couldn't be he was telling her of the contract, could it?With wobbly legs, I started to make my way across the grounds towards them. I walked as fast as my body would let me. Already, I began to sweat as almost all my body parts began to work. My thighs were hitting each other fiercely with flesh, and my upper arms were flabbing, so we're my cheeks which seemed to dance on my face, and my heart which seemed to have moved to my throat. However, halfway towards them, I saw Reece turn away from Francesca and stride towards Kaden. He turned his head, and spotted me, and with a raised brow, he seemed to question me. Are you scared?, That was what his eyes seemed to be saying.I slid my eyes off his as though I hadn't seen him and since I didn't know what he said to Fran, I decided it was best not to approach her while they
YRENE'S POVI swallowed as my eyes flitted back and forth, between the door, Reece and Kaden. I moistened my dry lips and held up my hands, trying to find a way to escape them or have them stay somewhere hidden.Of course, that was too much to hope for but I still tried."How about I do whatever punishment you want me to do at home? I'll carry your bags, do you assignments, clean your rooms and even massage your toes and fingers. I'm… I'm very good at it…" I started, but Reece cut me short with his hand in the air."Massage? I mean… wouldn't our toes be too small in her hands?" He asked, turning to Kaden who laughed."We'd search for them in her palms." He replied, looking at his own palms."I mean, how can you massage something that's too small? Your hands are too big to massage anything smaller than it so cut the crap and tell us why you wouldn't want a punishment here and now." Reece cornered me with his question and cold saliva traveled down my throat as the footsteps were right a
Chapter 11YRENE'S POVThe horror of something creepy staring at me through the window was so unnerving that I couldn't find my voice. Instead, I swung my legs to the floor as gently as I could, and with my mouth open and eyes glued to the figure at the window, I began to back away as quietly as I could manage.Just then, the figure stood, and pushed open the windows right in front of me. That was when the scream finally left me. It was a piercing one that I didn't even think I could manage. I immediately ran to the nearest stray pillow on the floor and bashed it at the figure which had proceeded to jump into my room. And then to my very surprise, it was Kaden. I had seen the malicious curve of his lips even before he pulled back his hood. My heart thrummed in my chest and even in the pale moonlight, I could see his handsome features standing out, making him seem even more desirable, but of course, those thoughts couldn't stay long.Immediately I realized the horror of what I had don
Chapter 10IRENE'S POVI moistened my lips nervously and immediately fell to the floor, gathering the broken shards carelessly to one spot. Already my heart was in my mouth and my fingers were shaking uncontrollably."I'm sorry! I swear I'm sorry! I… I'll buy the dish! I'll buy it back, I'm…ah!" I had been so nervous and so fidgety that I accidentally pressed my finger on a shard while trying to pick another. It sent a sharp pulsing pain through my finger and I couldn't hold my shout of pain. My hand continued to shake from the fear of breaking the dish and I bet I looked so pathetic. I looked up at him, only to look away as he bent close to me. For the second time that day, my breath seized as he picked up my hand gently. My cheeks immediately flushed red.His hands were soft, and delicate. They looked like a potter's hands, and he held my hand in that same gentle manner. My heart seemed to stop beating and it seemed like a vibration began from somewhere in my skin. My hand felt ver
