Fabian’s POV“The council has finally called for a gathering,” Ajax suddenly announced as soon as I came out of the cell. “Everyone is gathered in the hall already.”“About time,” I grumbled, shaking my head. “They took their bloody time.”The Council had been sitting inside our compound for two days, claiming they were just scoping out the land. They had refused to meet with us to discuss the tests, saying they would let us know when they are ready. The tension in the air was thick enough to choke on because we didn't want those old politicians to notice the internal disarray of our home. If they sensed any weakness, they would use it as an excuse to swoop in and strip our pack's authority, just like they tried to do to Ford when Keren testified five years ago.Everyone had been ordered to act normally and not give the council delegates a single reason to look closer.“How did it go?” he asked as we climbed up the stairs. I was tired, and it wasn’t the type of tiredness that sleep

  • The Lycan Twins Runaway Mate   CHAPTER 73(ii): THE SPECTRUM OF THE ROT

I bent, placed my hands over my head, and braced for impact, but the next thing I heard was the sound of things crashing to the ground, then something wet and warm splashed down on me.I held my position for a few seconds before opening my eyes, when the only sound I heard was panting and wind rushing down the corridor behind me. “Luna!” a voice yelled, and the laboratory door was one of the guards who flew through it, too much in a hurry to open it.I looked up to see Irene standing above me with her back to me, panting as she looked down at the twitching Lycan at the feet in front of her. Shivers went down my spine as I watched blood drip down her extended claws. She had placed herself between the man and me before he could reach me, then slashed his throat. The slash across his throat was clean, deep, and completely final. The man choked, grabbing at his throat, his eyes wide with horror as blood gushed between his fingers.I got to my feet, the air leaving my lungs in a sudden

  • The Lycan Twins Runaway Mate   CHAPTER 73: THE SPECTRUM OF THE ROT

It had been a brutal week since Jaxon had pointed his finger at the stage. The entire territory was locked in a state of quiet panic. Nobody knew who to trust anymore. If a wealthy, high-blooded pack member who had sat on the team of elders for decades could be part of a drug ring, then anyone could be a traitor. Which was a good thing for them because now the elders had stopped questioning and pushing anything Ford and Fabian did. Their mouths had all been shut up. Neighbors looked at each other with dark suspicion. Everyone walked through the pack grounds in complete silence, their heads down, waiting for the next blow to fall.As the head of security, Fabian had been entirely consumed by the fallout. He was running the interrogations day and night, barely leaving the cells. The leaks were spreading fast. From the elder, the names had rolled out to catch two more regular adults, and then, the most terrifying revelation of all… one top guard. He had been the reason the cameras ha

  • The Lycan Twins Runaway Mate   CHAPTER 72: THE STAGE

Keren’s POVTo keep the pack from panicking too early, Ford and Fabian stood close to me, their shoulders relaxed. They kept their expressions calm, pretending this was just a normal tribal meeting.Old Raymond, the head healer, stood near the back of the stage. Before Ford stepped to the microphone, I caught Raymond leaning in, his face ugly with a scowl. "This is a terrible mistake, Alpha," Raymond whispered harshly, his voice full of spite. "You are about to embarrass yourself and the royal line in front of the entire pack. They will never accept this."Ford didn't even turn his head. He just shifted his shoulder, completely blocking the old man out.The entire hall buzzed with nervous whispers. Then Ford stepped forward.Instantly the room quieted. The effect he had on people never stopped amazing me.“Thank you all for coming.”His calm voice carried easily across the hall.“I know the last twenty-four hours have caused concern.”Concern? That was one way to describe it.Panic wa

Keren’s POV“I thought the drugs caused hallucinations,” Ford asked before he could say anything, looking stunned. I stayed still, Fabian’s words still echoing in my head.“So we thought,” Fabian replied, chuckling dryly. “But man oh man, were we wrong. That laboratory was real.”The words hit my chest like a sudden crack of thunder, and a wave of pure shock rolled through my veins, my vision blurring for a second as the pillars of my old self-doubt violently shattered into dust.Ford let out a sharp, strangled gasp. "How is that even possible?” he mused, shocked and confused at the same time. “Fabs, we searched those exact tunnels five years ago and got nothing but empty stone and dust!""Because the Ashfords engineered the entire setup to disappear the second she ran out of the corridor, Ford," Fabian explained, his voice tired and stressed. "Lola confessed before… See, the Ashfords planted that hidden experimental facility in there on purpose. Their initial plan was for someone or

Keren’s POV“Mommy, see,” Maverick called out to me, holding up the Game Boy his father had given him. “I won!”I smiled at him, but my mind was distracted. It had been almost four hours since Ford and Fabian had left, and the waiting was driving me insane.Fabian was probably busy with extracting the truth from Lola, and I knew the interrogation wouldn't be clean. And Ford had quickly excused himself, saying he needed to coordinate the searching of residential spaces personally. I had been trying and failing to concentrate on anything other than the knot of anxiety growing in my stomach.Ford's scent was everywhere in the room, which wasn’t surprising given he was usually here for hours on end, dealing with both the pack's and their business issues. And unfortunately, my brain decided that was the perfect opportunity to replay memories; the good, embarrassing, and… very inappropriate memories. My face heated instantly. God, why was I like this?I looked around the office, looking fo

Fabian’s POVLola was sitting on the floor in a corner of the cell. Her wavy hair falling over her face as she curled her tiny frame into a ball, her shoulders shaking violently as she wept. She looked very fragile and scared, which was probably the reason why the guards hadn’t bound her in any wa

“He is ready for you, sir,” Marcus said from the doorway of my office in the military wing.“Finally, some excitement,” I muttered, clapping my hands once as I got to my feet. “It’s time to get to work.”Marcus offered me a bow as I walked past him, descending into the cold, damp air of the undergr

Ford’s POVThe air inside my office was crisp, the scent of cedar and old paper providing a small bit of grounding as I sat behind my desk. I let out a sigh and closed my eyes, allowing myself a second of reprieve before clicking the intercom on my table. “Helen,” I called out to my PA. “Inform h

  • The Lycan Twins Runaway Mate   CHAPTER 62: THE SHIELD OF DECEPTION

Ford’s POV"Moving on," I said, my voice cutting through the thick, stagnant tension of the grand hall like a tired rumble. "We all have our clear directives. Healer Irene, you have full authorization over the research," I said as I massaged the bridge of my nose, feeling the onset of a headache r
