Jasper “What is it?” I enquired and she gave me a playful smile. “A simple one to see if you could be considered worthy by our Goddess.” I looked behind her and at the tall imposing statue of a Goddess that loomed over us, her head almost touching the ceiling. She had the face of a phoenix and the body of a woman. The statue seemed to look down at us, the sharp angular eyes that seemed to emit some powerful fire beams and burn down whoever dared to displease her. As I observed the statue of the Goddess behind me, Keltia explained, “She is Goddess Fyere. The first phoenix Goddess who could not only harbor the power of fire but also all other elements.” “So something happened that she lost the other ones?” I enquired and I saw Keltia shift uncomfortably in her seat. Jasper I let out an irritated breath, took the small vial from her, and safely tucked it in my pockets. Keltia came with me to the door to see me out and stuck her staff in one of the walls. Though I believed it was less about being courteous to her guest and more about not wanting me to wander into her territory unsupervised. But it did not matter as I did not plan to invade her space as of now. If things went downhill in the future and I was desperate to receive the ink, maybe I would do that. For now, I just wanted to get back to Celia. The door opened and I stepped out of it and was greeted by the cold night again. The fresh air of the forest felt nice and I took lungfuls of it after being enclosed in that dimly lit cave for a long time. The way Keltia had spoken about the favor and the payment for next time was something that bothered me but I pushed that worry to the back of my mind. I was too anxious to eat and only forced down half a piece of bread down my throat when Grace would not stop pestering me about it.I somehow gulped the tea to calm my nerves and let Grace do my hair and choose a dress for me. She pulled out a simple and elegant pink colored gown for the travel.“How is this one, my lady?” She enquired as she held the dress up for me to examine. Celia Jasper was sitting on the seat opposite of me, his eyes fixated on the map that he held in his hand. I looked outside the windows by lifting the drapes a little. The forest path through which we were traveling was quite dense.The road was less used by travelers and was just the one Jasper had shown me earlier in his study. This route cut down our travel time by more than half though it meant we had to travel through a dense thicket.I craned my neck outside the window and noticed that the tree trunks were wide and thick, their dense leaves hiding the sun as we moved deeper into the forest. It was broad daylight but due to the thick foliage, it felt like we were traveling through the night.There was also a certain cold seeping in through the forest.
