Sleep didn’t come easy to me.

It never did, but it didn’t take long before Isadora fell asleep.

Watching her was nothing short of a beautiful experience. She kept her back to me the entire time, almost as if she was trying to hide from me, but that didn’t stop me from watching her.

By the time she fell asleep, her soft breathing filled the air and I watched the rise and fall of her chest for fear that if I closed my eyes, she’d run again.

I knew who hurt her. It wasn’t hard to deduce once I’d go

Isadora spent a lot of time with the victims, longer than I expected. We knew close to nothing about them. No names, Packs, or even an identity to work with. They were the runts of wherever they were kidnapped from, and as I waited for Isadora, all I could think about was if she would be able to get them to open up to her. The rogues went about their business as usual, and no one bothered me, even though I knew they were staring and pretending not to. "Little wolf. Is everything okay in there?" I asked through the mind link when I could not take the silence any longer. She didn't respond immediately, so I pushed past the flimsy barrier between us and called for her again. "Answer me, Isadora.""I'm okay. Stop distracting me. I'll be out soon," she responded curtly, her tone sharp with impatience.Satisfied that she was fine and I had nothing to worry about, I leaned back against the car and waited some more. And then, after what felt like forever, she eventually stepped outside

CHAPTER 118ISADORA"Where are we going?" I asked as I got into the car. "To see the victims," he stated firmly. My eyebrows threatened to disappear into my hairline from the way they shot upwards. "They are not here?"I was surprised. I thought they had all being bought here, and were being kept somewhere secret. Elias fastened his seat belt and turned to face me. "No, they are not. They are with the rogues. We don't have enough space in the pack to shelter them, and I figured staying with the rogues might make them more at ease than staying in the pack with us. You know how weird the pack members can be. I wouldn't want any of them to start segregating those people just because they were victims of human trafficking."His words made sense, and I felt a tiny bit of guilt at the fact that I hadn't thought about it that way. Leaning back on my seat, I turned to see Erina and Carlos walking around the house and going towards the back. My eyes narrowed as I stared at them, and some

As you can see, I am not dead," he mused, his expression turning into a wince as he tried to sit up. I immediately rushed to his sides, my arms wrapping around him as I helped him lay his back against the wall. When he was comfortable enough, I stepped back to properly look him over. He must have seen something on my face because he grinned, and the sight of that familiar expression made me relax a little bit. He was okay. Carlos was okay. "Isadora. It's weird to see you looking at me like that. What's going on?" he asked, and his question rankled me for obvious reasons. I raised my eyebrows at him. "What's going on? You're asking me what's going on, Carlos? You almost died. You knew you were hurt and you didn't say anything to Elias. You decided that it was a good idea to drive all the way back here from P

It was rare to see Elias that vulnerable, and as I watched him sleep, my heart went out to him. When I went out to his study, he had looked so down, so... crestfallen that my heart almost collapsed in my chest. Carlos's wound had shaken him more than I realised, and it broke my heart to hear him think it was his fault. I smoothed his hair back gently before leaning over to plant a kiss on his forehead. Then I silently crept out of bed. The fight had left him exhausted, and he didn't twitch as I tied my robe around my waist. I was about to walk past him when his hand wrapped around my wrist, stopping me. "Where to, Little wolf?" he asked. He was still sleepy, but his voice was alert enough to let me know that he was conscious. "I just want to go and check on Carlos, love. I'll be back in a bit," I responded. His hand lingered on my wrist before he eventually let go, and I knew he was going to be awake until I got back into bed. Gently padding away from the room, I made my way d

There was a loud ringing in my ears. It drowned all other sounds until it was all I could hear.My Beta had been hurt, and he had lied to me when I asked if he was okay. I had been too exhausted to see that he was not okay, that all the blood that coated his body didn't belong to the people we fought. It was his blood too. My hands ached from being curled into fists so hard, but that pain was nothing but a dull edge compared to what was in my chest. I didn't move from where I stood. My study was clean and pristine, and I was filthy. But I didn't give a shit. I just stood there, letting the guilt ravage me from inside out. "I'm sorry," Erina's voice echoed softly in the quiet study. I said nothing, I didn't even turn to look at her. I already knew she was in here with me, right from the moment she walked in. She moved closer. "I...I didn't mean what I said. I was hurt and worried about him, especially considering that fact that the doctor told me that we might have to take him t

My heart stopped beating in my chest. My eyes grew as wide as saucers as Erina's words settled around me, and there was a sudden weight on my chest that prevented me from breathing.Elias had gone really still, and his expression was unreadable as he stared at his cousin. "He is hurt?" he asked. Erina nodded, and there was tears in her eyes. "Very."And that was all we needed to hear. In tandem, we all ran through the pack and down to the medical house. The moment Erina pushed the door open and my eyes fell in Carlos though, my legs gave out beneath me. I slid to the floor, horror sloshing through my veins as I took him in. There was a long gash in his side and tears rapidly filled my eyes as I watched the pack doctor move around frantically. Elias was as white as a sheet, and he was gripping the door frame so hard that it creaked under his grip. "What happened?" he asked. Erina was wringing her hands together in a way that betrayed her nervousness. "When he drove in, I was ha
