MasukChapter Six.
Aurelia’s POV. “Y-You… You think you can threaten me?” Lyra growled, her eyes shifting from the regular dark brown to her wolf’s fiery grey ones. For a second, I was sure she was going to lunge at me, grab a fistful of my hair like she used to when we were kids but to my surprise, she didn’t. Instead, she spun on her heels so fast her hair whipped through the air, “You’ll regret that.” She hissed over her shoulder and stormed out, slamming the door so hard the wall shook. The relief that washed over me immediately the door shut behind her, calmed my racing heart. The courage I had displayed earlier when I threatened Lyra suddenly disappeared and I almost crumbled to the floor when the door burst open again. Lyra was back, but she wasn’t alone. A terrifying looking guard with a deep scar running down his face stood behind her, blocking the hallway. My blood turned to ice as I stumbled backwards, my heart pounding so hard against my ribs that I could hear the sound in my ears. “W-What are you doing?” I stammered, my entire body trembled but I kept my eyes glued to her and the guard. Lyra didn’t answer. She just smiled and nodded at the guard. He moved surprisingly fast for a man of his size. Before I could process what was happening, he was in front of me and his large hands came down heavily on me. He knocked me down to the floor. “Let me go!” I screamed on top of my lungs, struggling and kicking against him but it was of no use. Lyra knelt in front of me, her smile had twisted into something sinister and creepy that was far more terrifying than anything else as she waved a small, sharp silver blade dangerously in front of her. “You have a big mouth for someone in your position,” she said, her voice eerily calm as she grabbed a handful of my hair, yanking my head back forcefully before pressing the sharp edge of the blade against my neck. A bloodcurdling scream tore past my lips and the sound of my own flesh burning against the silver blade filled my ears. My eyes were wide open in horror and it didn’t matter how much I was thrashing around on the ground, the guard held me down. “Do you know what Liam loved most about you?” She asked, her eyes shone with a maniacal glint, “it was your hair,” she added, running the blade from my neck into my hair. Hot tears stung the back of my eyes as images of how her father had killed my own father with a silver blade filled my head. I could still smell their burning flesh… I could still hear Mom’s scream. “Even my father loved it, he said it made you look like a real Alpha’s daughter,” she mused, hatred dripping from each word. “No… Ly—“ Before the words could make it past my lips, she pressed the blade against my hair and with one smooth thrust of the knife, she cut off my hair. A gasp slipped past my lips as Lyra threw a thick bundle of my hair on the floor in front of my eyes. A broken whimper escaped my lips as she leaned down to press her lips against my ears, “The next time you forget your place in this house and speak to me like that again, it won’t be your hair I will cut off. Do you understand?” She shook my head roughly but I couldn’t speak. I wanted to but couldn’t speak, all I could do was stare wide-eyed at the bundle on the floor. Shoving me aside angrily, she walked out with the guard behind her. I don’t know how long I laid there, curled on the floor beside the chunk of what used to be my hair. I cried until my throat was raw and my eyes were swallow. Until there was nothing left inside of me to cry. My parents were gone, Liam was gone and even though it shouldn’t hurt the way it did, I felt my chest tighten painfully at the thought of what Lyra had taken from me. A few hours passed before the door opened again and someone walked in; a young maid who preferred to look at everything else but me. “I’ll run you a bath.” She mumbled before disappearing into the bathroom. I just sat there, numb as I listened to the sound of the running water. Suddenly, an idea hit me and my head snapped up. My heart began to beat rapidly again as I glanced at the bathroom before my eyes slowly drifted back to the door. The maid didn’t lock the door… I didn’t think, I just moved. I slipped out the door and without a single plan or any idea where I was headed, I broke into a wild run. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me, my breath coming in ragged gaps with each passing second but just as I turned a corner, my body slammed into something hard. I lost my balance but strong arms suddenly grabbed my arm, stopping me from falling to the ground. I glanced up and Torin’s cold, amused eyes peered down into mine with a wicked grin on his lips. “Well, well,” he murmured, his grin stretching into something else, “what do we have here?” “Going somewhere?” A tremor shot through me as Kaelen’s voice came from behind me, startling me. I flinched as his hands landed on my waist, trapping me between them. “Y-You can’t keep me here! Let me go!” My voice shook but I tried to stand my ground against their towering, intimidating presence. “Go where?” Torin taunted, his grip on my arm tightening as his eyes shone with mischief, “you belong to us now and that means there’s nowhere in the world that you could possibly run to that we won’t find you.” With one strong pull, he yanked me closer to him and the moment his muscular body pressed against mine, I felt a weird sensation stir inside of me. As he spoke, his gaze dropped from my eyes to my hair and he went completely still. His eyes locked on my hair. The amusement vanished from his face, replaced by a murderous glare. With another swift move, he grabbed a fistful of the chopped strands of my hair and yanked me forward, crushing me against his chest and he immediately buried his face in my neck, inhaling deeply. My entire body stiffened against his. He was so close to me… too close and the worst part was, Kaelen was right behind me. I could feel his body also pressing against mine. I swallowed hard, determined to stay levelheaded and in control. A low sound rumbled out of Torin, “Oh,” he breathed against my skin, his lips sent a tingle through my body as they grazed against my skin, “so Rylan started the fun without us?” He pulled back just enough to look at me, his eyes burning with something I had never seen before, “Did you enjoy it?” Kaelen’s insanely sultry voice whispered into my ears from behind me and my body jolted in response. I tried to move but his hand had snaked around my waist and was holding me in place. I was completely at their mercy. “Did you enjoy your foster brother touching you?” Torin added and my brows furrowed. What on earth were they talking about? “I don’t know what you’re talking about! Let me go!” I yelled, trying to shove him away. But Torin wasn’t listening, none of them were. His gaze was locked on me as he leaned in. His lips hovering near my shoulder. I squeezed my eyes shut, unsure of what to expect. My eyes flew open when I felt the wet, hot stroke of his tongue against my skin, sliding from my collarbone up to my neck. A jolt of pure, shocking amount of unwanted pleasure shot through me, making my knees wobble as I crumbled back into Kaelen’s large frame behind me. My lips parted slightly as Torin eyes found mine, “Fuckkkk,” his voice was low, rough and intoxicating, “for a Drakenheart… you taste so damn good.”CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN.AURELIA’S POV.“The triplets are hosting a banquet tonight for the Alpha and some dignitaries. There’s a lot to do in the kitchen and around the house so Master Kaelen ordered me to put you to good use.” the head maid stated as she glared down. “You’re to help the maids in the kitchen with the food for now until I decide what else to do with you.”I stared at her, my eyes wide open in disbelief, “Help? You mean… like a servant?”“Exactly, like a servant because that’s what you are in here. So, I want you downstairs in that uniform in the next five minutes. Make me come up here again to get you and I’ll make sure you understand what it means to be a servant.” she hissed and before I could say anything else, she turned and walked out the door.I stared at the servant uniform she had left on my bed and my hands clenched at my sides as heat rushed to my face. It was bad enough that they trapped me in here for days now but now, they want to put me in a maid’s uniform
CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX.LYRA’S POV.I didn’t bother knocking, I just shoved the door to my father’s study open and slammed it behind me so hard, it rattled on its hinges like it was going to fall off. My father was seated behind his desk, but he wasn’t working. He was just sitting there, staring at nothing in particular, his shoulders slumped under his fancy Alpha’s jacket. He looked up, startled, “Lyra? What’s happened?”“She shifted.” I hissed, the words tasted like ash in my mouth. He clenched his fists tightly, the knuckles almost turned white. “When?”“Two nights ago.” I walked closer to him and angrily pulled back one of the chairs in front of his desk but couldn’t bring myself to sit down. “she’s not just a helpless girl anymore, Dad. I confirmed that it wasn’t some pathetic first shift, she was strong and fast. She almost escaped!”His face turned pale but his eyes grew sharp, “what about the triplets?”“Kaelen stopped her.” I said as the memory slammed into me with a force that m
CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE.RYLAN’S POV.“I was at the southern ridge yesterday, saw three ferals cross the riverbed and there wasn’t a single guard around to stop them. This isn’t a joke anymore, they were hunting in our territory.” Kealen growled, aggressively stabbing at his food with his fork.We were seated at the dinner table. Just another regular day of watching the pack grow thinner and weaker under Kade’s rule.“The elders were right, they grow bolder when they’re left unchecked.” he added as he shot me a glare.A cold knot twisted in my gut. Ferals were rogue shifters, they were believed to have been cursed by the moon goddess herself and there was no cure for it, just the endless bloody, animalistic madness that came with it. But they never came this close to settled territory unless…“I spoke with Elder Corvus earlier today and he has a plan to fix this without any bloodshed.” Kaelen continued, his eyes still fixed on me as if he was expecting some sort of reaction from me, “A we
CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR.AURELIA’S POV.The warm feeling of the morning sunlight on my face, accompanied with the soothing sound of birds chirping was the first thing I heard and felt as my eyes fluttered open slowly. I stretched leisurely, my eyes fixed on the ceiling for a few seconds before I realized how unfamiliar the room I was in, was.My neck snapped to the side at the empty space beside me on the bed and my entire body stiffened as it all came rushing back to me.The scream. The nightmare. His burning skin. The way he’d held onto me like I was the only thing keeping him from drowning. And… I had fallen asleep listening to the sound of his heart beating.I had fallen asleep in HIS bed! The realization hit me hard, knocking the air right out of my lungs. I shot up from the bed, my head spinning as my eyes darted around the room in panic,Rylan was gone.Shit! Without a second thought, I jumped out of bed like my life depended on it.I had to get out. Now!My heart was pounding aga
CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE.AURELIA’S POV.Thick darkness enveloped me instantly. The large curtains hanging over the window had been drawn tight but a silver of moonlight was somehow pouring in from a crack between the curtains, lighting up the room just a little bit. The moon light cut across the large bed close to the window and my breath hitched when my eyes rested on him.On the bed, with his legs tangled around the sheets like chains was Rylan. He was on his back, his muscles pulled tightly together, strained, his bare chest glistening with sweat in the dim light. His head whipped from side to side on his pillow as he thrashed around restlessly. His hair was plastered to his forehead, his eyebrows drawn tight, lips pulled back from his teeth as heavy, loud pants poured out of him.He looked… terrified.“Rylan.” I whispered, inching closer, my face twisted with concern and confusion so sincere that for a split second, I forgot about my own fear.“No,” he suddenly cried out, “not again.
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO.AURELIA’S POV.I jerked awake with a start, a violent shudder racked through my body as I gasped for air as if my lungs had been blocked. A scream was lodged at the back of my throat but it never made it past my lips as I glanced in panic. For one dizzy second, my brain was blank, I had no idea where I was or how I had ended up there. The first thing I felt was an itch. A weird, hot itch right on the tender curve where my neck met my shoulder, I could feel each fierce pulse coming from it under what felt like a layer of soft cloth. On impulse, my fingers shot up to touch it and I realized a bandage had been tapped over it.Almost immediately, my breath caught in my throat as the memories slammed into my head with a terrifying force that left my head spinning.A raw, burning pain that felt familiar shot up my neck as the image of Torin’s canine scrapping against my throat before he sunk into my flesh, flashed before my eyes.“… you’ll be mine, Lia. Mine!” His voice
