Third Person
Sirius’ butler was restless as they headed to the jail. The truth was, in his six years of service to his master, this was the first time something like this had happened to him. Sirius would get mad at him once they arrived, and he was with two of his cousins. What Sirius hated the most was asking for help from anyone, especially from the people he knew.
He didn’t want to be judged. Once, the young man almost killed him because he reported him to his parents, something Sirius hated. He tried to live without asking for anyone’s help, but Sirius had no choice now because his situation was so bad that it threatened the company he had been protecting.
“Can you tell us what really happened?” Kaizer asked while Louis was busy looking at his phone. His mother had been calling nonstop earlier, telling him to come home because they were already at the mansion to discuss the wedding. As much as he wanted to go home, he couldn’t because his cousin needed him now.
“This is what happened, please forgive me for what I did earlier, but Sir Sirius’ company is really in danger because of the Campbell Organization. They exposed his boss’ illegal activities. Slowly, the shareholders began pulling out their shares in the company. When I researched it, I found that they moved to Campbell’s company, which is why my boss was taken to jail and now bankrupt, because he used his remaining money in the bank account to pay off debts,” the butler sadly explained, wiping his tears away. It was clear that he was loyal to Sirius, not just as his butler.
“Then how did this happen to Sirius? I know that guy, he’s even smarter than me, so it’s impossible for something like this to happen to him,” Kaizer said. He grabbed a piece of tobacco from the side of the car and lit it with his ever-present lighter.
“Sirius is smart, but like the saying goes, even a monkey can be outsmarted. There was a time when my boss was busy with Desire Island. He was addicted to sex at that time, which is why his title there increased. He handed the company over to a trusted person, but that person ended up betraying him. I hope he’s wiser now, especially since he’s only got a second chance. Also, if Sir Louis will not help him, his other companies abroad might be affected, because the news will spread, and the shareholders will lose trust in Sir Sirius,” the butler said seriously, now filled with anger. Even though his boss wasn’t the best of people, he had seen a different side of him that others didn’t because they always focused on the young man’s bad behavior.
If he could, he wouldn’t ask Louis for help, he could’ve asked the people managing Sirius’ companies abroad. However, that would be difficult because that was where the conspirators who wanted to bring his master down might be. So, he had no choice but to go to his cousin. It was a dangerous move, but he hoped Louis would help Sirius.
“Sir Louis, you seem busy with your phone. I’ve never seen you like this. Maybe you’re texting one of your flings,” Powsh, his driver for the day, commented, especially since the three idiots had tagged along to gossip.
“Mind your own business; I’m talking to my mom,” Louis replied, still focused on his phone screen. His mother was sending him videos of her baking with Elaine.
Elaine had another side to her, and it seemed she was very comfortable with her parents. Louis hoped that this trust wouldn’t be broken because of what Elaine was showing him. If it was, he wasn’t sure if he’d even talk to her again.
“Tss. When did Louis Montemayor ever smile because of a girl baking?” Kaizer sarcastically asked, spinning a glass of champagne in his hand due to irritation.
He was the first to meet Elaine and the first to fall in love with her, but since Louis came into the picture, he couldn’t approach her anymore because of his uncle Izaak’s request that he stay away from her since she was about to marry Louis.
He couldn’t understand Louis’ sudden decision to take such good care of Elaine. She wasn’t even related to them. Moreover, it wasn’t that he wanted Elaine to suffer, but why were they treating her so well, especially when her parents had a huge debt to them?
He sighed, deep in thought. Maybe Louis’ parents just wanted him to settle down with a woman. It seemed that all of the Montemayor cousins were womanizers, except for his brother Lucas. If it were up to him, Lucas would be the one to stay away from women because, for him, they were nothing but a headache and not needed in the cases he was investigating.
“Can you learn to shut up, Kaizer? I will rip your mouth off if you don’t stop minding my business,” Louis yelled. The butler looked between them but couldn’t do anything except sigh. He wasn’t used to seeing them constantly arguing like children.
Soon enough, they arrived at the jail where Sirius was. When he saw Louis with his butler, the young man already knew that he had asked for help from his cousins.
“You didn’t follow my orders. I said call my lawyer Efren, not them,” Sirius growled. He hated being seen by anyone while in jail. He didn’t want his pride shattered because of one man who betrayed him.
“But, sir, we don’t have any money left to pay the lawyer if I call Efren. Besides, that’s not the only thing we need, we also need new shareholders to get the company back up,” Vren, the butler, explained. His voice clearly showed concern for Sirius. He wasn’t even thinking that Sirius might shoot him out of anger.
“Your butler was right, except for one thing. Efren will never compensate money to Sirius because he’s our family lawyer. And besides, he’s our cousin, but the thing is, the man you want to call is in London with his girlfriend. You know, he’s preparing for a proposal. I’ll help you, but I know you don’t want any indulgence when I lend you my help. That’s why you should pay it back once you are able to get up,” Louis said seriously. Sirius still couldn’t shake the anger. His butler’s actions had clearly hurt his pride.
Louis immediately spoke with the people in charge and ordered them to release Sirius. If not, their graves might be dug earlier than expected.
“Why would we release a man involved in illegal activities? We have evidence. If you want, we can show you,” one police officer arrogantly said while drinking coffee. His uniform almost stretched out because of his large belly. Louis just smiled at the officer’s attitude.
Louis immediately signaled Volstrige to call the head of those managing Sirius’ case, which Volstrige did.
“Boss, it looks like our boss isn’t going to continue the shipment to you. Your kid’s been too persistent, and now our boss is getting cocky,” Volstrige said. The person on the other end of the line responded nervously to Volstrige’s words.
At this point, Louis put the phone on speaker so they could all hear the conversation. “Don’t be like that. If you want, just kill him, but don’t stop the shipment,” the man on the other line said. His voice revealed that he didn’t care about his employees as long as he kept Louis’ trust.
“Hmmm, what should I do with you? What do you think?” Louis asked sarcastically while twirling his favorite pistol in his hand.
“Please forgive me. Kill me if that’s what you want, but please, don’t involve my family,” the man pleaded, now kneeling like a meek lamb, unlike how he was earlier when he was arrogantly standing.
“Release Sirius now, I don’t want to hear any nonsense from you. Next time, know the person you will respect and remember my name. Louis Montemayor,” Louis said. He sat in the chair, but this time, the men brought him coffee while the arrogant man cleaned his shoes.
When they released Sirius, he immediately punched the man who had been cleaning his shoes. “Don’t you know my name, you f*cking asshole? You dared to put me in jail!” the young man yelled. His anger was evident on his face, and the veins on his temples bulged, showing that he wanted to kill the man standing in front of him.
Sirius immediately strangled him when Louis stopped him. “Don’t you dare stop me, Louis. I will not hesitate to kill you,” he threatened. Louis just raised his hand and then walked out.
Honestly, he didn’t care about Sirius’s actions. He knew the young man well. He didn’t know how to kill anyone with his hands. He always used others to get what he wanted.
Louis just called Eros to arrange a reservation for Desire Island since he still had to deal with Sirius’ company. The truth was, of all the cousins, Sirius had the worst father. Their Uncle Liam never made mistakes. That was why Sirius grew up with high pride and dignity. When they were about five years old, he wasn’t allowed to play outside because he had to study the family business. That was the difference between them and the young man. If their uncle ever found out about what had happened to Sirius’ company, he might end up killing his son.
Because the most important thing to their family was their pride in the business world.
“Ugh, I almost threw up from fear of Sir Sirius. He really goes crazy when he’s angry,” Powsh said as they were leaving the jail to follow Louis.
“Tell me about it. I thought he was going to strangle his butler, too, but no, he just punched him. Good thing Sir Louis is our boss,” Brennon said as he took a cigarette from his pocket to light it.
“What’s good about that? Boss almost killed us every time we bothered him. Also, that was just a punch, if it were us, we’d have gotten shot. Damn this life,” Volstrige said. Louis cleared his throat from behind them, and they immediately stopped.
“Assh*le,” Louis muttered to them. They saw Sirius walking out, still angry. Kaizer was with him.
“I will never be grateful for what you did, Louis. You should remember that,” Sirius said. His butler immediately ran to get Sirius’ car.
“I know. By the way, I invested five billion in your company. We are now business partners,” Louis replied. The young man didn’t answer him and continued walking to his car.
The butler stepped out and smiled, bowing to Louis to thank him. “Thank you very much. Don’t worry, my boss is also happy with your decision to invest in our company. Goodbye, Mr. Louis,” he politely said before getting into the car to drive.
“Boss, is it really okay that you helped Sir Sirius? He doesn’t seem happy about your help,” Brennon said, scratching his head. Honestly, this was the first time they saw someone talk back to Louis, except for Kaizer, because he was close to the young man.
“Idiot, isn’t it obvious? That’s just how they are. The Montemayors are weird,” Volstrige said. Kaizer and Louis immediately responded.
“What did you say, idiot?”
“What did you say, dickhead?”
Volstrige immediately laughed because the two cousins were finally agreeing, even if they always argued like cats and dogs. It seemed they just didn’t want to hear any comments about their family.
Volstrige’s teasing ended when Louis’ phone rang. He immediately answered it.
“My son, you need to come home. Something bad happened to Elaine,” his mother said in a panic, causing Kaizer to look at him.
“What happened to Elaine?” Kaizer asked, but Louis’ mother quickly ended the call, leaving him no choice but to get in the car. Before he could go, Kaizer was already in the car with him.
“What happened to Elaine?” Kaizer asked. Louis couldn’t answer because he had no idea what was going on.
He just hoped that Elaine was okay, or else he didn’t know what he might do.
ElaineThe days passed quickly, and we learned the news that Zap had escaped, so our security doubled as we searched for leads on who helped Zap escape and where my real father was.I let out a deep sigh before leaning my head against the chair. I thought the evilness of the Valencias was over, but we were back to square one."Everything will be fine, wife. As long as we are together, we can do anything. I’ll dispatch more people to look for leads," Louis said. He held my hand. I smiled."Thank you, hubby, for always being by my side. Even when I’m still looking for a part of my past identity, you're patient," I said and kissed him on the cheek. That evening, while I was working on paperwork that the wedding organizer gave me, Mace suddenly started crying.I quickly stood up and went to the nursery room, "Wah, Mama." I picked her up and saw Louis enter, holding Caliber in his arms.He asked, "What happened?""Hubby, can you grab the diapers? I think she’s crying because it's already fu
LouisI’ve always thought of myself as the man who knew everything. Someone who was calculated, cold, and efficient—that’s who I am. Or rather, who I was before Elaine. She wasn’t just a woman I was ordered to marry; she was the reason I started questioning everything about my carefully constructed world. It all started when I saw her for the first time walking with her friends down the street. I was in the backseat of my car, flipping through meaningless reports about the family’s business, when I caught sight of her. She wasn’t extraordinary by any conventional standard. She had oversized glasses perched on her nose, braces, and hair that seemed to have a life of its own. Yet, there was something about her laugh. It was carefree. It was pure.“Who’s that woman?” I blurted out, startling Brennon. His eyes flicked to the rearview mirror, confused. “I—I don’t know, sir. Should I find out?”I stayed quiet. My heart clenched for reasons I didn’t understand. Why did I care? She wasn’t the
ElaineThe breeze was cold today at the cemetery. The sun was high, but it didn’t hurt my skin because it was already late afternoon. It was quiet, but I still felt the heaviness in my heart as I walked the path to my father’s grave. Everything that happened was still fresh in my mind, and in the blink of an eye, all the evil deeds of the Valencias were over. But I knew that this wasn’t the end because there were still organizations that wanted to get their hands on the ledger, which I still couldn’t remember. In the end, Zap was imprisoned with multiple charges while Mariella was taken by Lucas to a psychiatrist because she almost lost her sanity with everything that happened.I read the inscription on the tombstone that said Raymond Natividad. I placed the bouquet of white roses down and lit a candle. He was such a good father to me, doing everything to protect me.“In a few months, I’ll be giving birth. I’ll make sure to bring them here so you can see them,” I said. My heart ached,
ElaineWhen I opened my eyes, I felt the pain from the restraints tied to my hands. They were tight and cold, as if purposely tightened to cause severe pain. I trembled as I looked around. It seemed like we were in a storage room, and aside from me, there were two others—Kaizer and Dad, both tied to chairs.“Ely . . . .” Kai’s voice was weak but filled with concern. “Are you okay?”I nodded, even though my heart contradicted the words. It was racing in fear and anxiety over what might happen to us.“Do you know where we are?” I asked, my voice cracking. He shook his head. “All I know is that we’ve been kidnapped by the Valencia Organization. I don’t know how they found us, but I’ll make sure we escape.”I was scared for the baby in my womb. It had nothing to do with this.“Everything will be fine, Ely, trust me,” Kaizer said. It seemed like he had a plan in mind.“Ugh,” Dad groaned as he slowly opened his eyes. When he saw Kaizer and me, his brows furrowed immediately. “What are you tw
ElaineLouis and I stayed in Florida for two more weeks. When Louis saw me that night, he always comforted me. We rarely went out again, and when we did, we always had a bodyguard with us. He didn’t ask me what happened, it seemed like he was waiting for me to tell him on my own.Today, Valerian will pick us up to take us back to the Philippines.“I want to stay here for a while,” I said while organizing the clothes and souvenirs we bought.“We will come back here again. This is one of our houses now, I just need to finish all my work,” Louis answered and pecked a kiss on my cheek. When we got in the car, Valerian smiled at me. “Looks like the newlyweds enjoyed their honeymoon that much. Aunt Hacel said to get both of you after three days, but someone wants to stay longer.”“Shut up, dickhead,” Louis said and I laughed. So, he was the one who planned for us to stay here for a month.“You really hurt my feelings with that greeting, man. A gift for your godchild?” Valerian asked. Louis t
ElaineIt had been a week, and Louis and I had fallen into a routine. We were like a real married couple. Every morning, he cooked for me, and we spent our days exploring different places. Almost every night, something would happen between us. Honestly, it all felt like a dream, and I never wanted to wake up.“Wife, are you still mad at me? I didn’t mean to be rough last night,” Louis asked while trying to feed me some rice.“No. I’m not mad,” I answered briefly.“Then why are you so quiet, hmm?” he asked again. The truth was, I wished we could just stay here because I was afraid that once we went back home, things between us would change again.“I’m just thinking,” I said. His face turned serious. “What is it? You can tell me.”I forced a small smile. It was better to keep what I saw to myself for now. He might think I was involved with Zap.“I’m just thinking about where we should go today. There are so many beautiful places here. I’ll take a quick shower so we can leave,” I said, ki
