Chapter 22 :You could have warned me!
Grace was called into her Grandpa’s office from the stables. Grace was relieved as she thought that she might have an excuse to get out of Lucas’s dance session. When she walked into the office, she saw Xan and Mrs Farthing were sat waiting for her.
“Hello Grandpa, what can I do for you?” Grace asked worriedly. "Why was Xan and Mrs Farthing here? Had she done something wrong?" Grace thought.
“Ah Grace, welcome! I have some good news for you, please take a seat next Xan!” Tony said.
Grace did and said, “Ok Grandpa, what is the good news?”
“Xan has asked Formal permission to Court you and I have agreed!” Tony said brightly.
“Court me?” Grace said blushing deeply and feeling extremely embarrassed. She wished the floor would swallow her up just about now!
“It is just an old term for dating Dear, because of your position Xan had to ask Tony!” Mrs Farthing

Xan watched Grace walk down the stairs and tried very hard not to stare at her too much, he did not want to scare her off after all! I am so sorry, Xan!” Grace squealed as she righted herself.

Grace loved the fact that she was alone for the first time in weeks, alone and free. She did not know what had come over, whether it was the fact she was tired of men trying to control her or she needed space to breathe, but she had easily climbed out of the window! She had taken off her ridiculous shoes and slung them over her shoulder. Grace ran into the park enjoying the moonlight and fresh air, stopping briefly to look at a fountain. When she walked to the other side of the park and noticed a hospital. Grace walked over there with a smile on her face. Meanwhile, Xan and Hank were waiting anxiously for Grace to return. After 20 mins, Hank sensed something was wrong. “Mrs Ling, could you please check the loo to see if Dr Evans is OK?” Hank asked. Mrs Ling nodded and hurried to the female loo. She came back a couple of minutes later, her face white.“I am afraid she is not in there!" Mrs Ling said. “Shit! I knew she was upset!”

Grace knew the theory of being in a coma, but that was completely different from being in one. It felt like she was floating in a black sea, where she occasionally heard snippets of people’s voices. Grace tried to concentrate on the voices that brought medical updates. She had heard the Doctor say she could have a bleed on the brain and needed to be moved to a hospital. Another Doctor saying she needed to have emergency surgery to release the pressure and now it was a matter of time for the brain swelling to go down. “We don’t know how much damage has been done, is any until she wakes up. She is off the ventilator, which is a good sign!” The Doctor had said. Grace had mused how much people talk when they think you can’t hear.
