Aria

My cheeks burned with humiliation. What had I expected? That he'd be pining away for me? That last night had meant to him what it had meant to me?

Only after what felt like an eternity did he mutter something that made Chloe pout, and he shoved her off his lap with casual indifference.

I turned on my heels, nearly tripping in my haste to escape. I pushed through the crowd, ignoring the protests of people I shoved past. I just needed to get out, to get away from the sight of him with those women, to forget how stupid I'd been to come here.

"Aria!" His voice cut through the noise of the club. "Aria, wait!"

I didn't stop, didn't look back. I was almost at the exit when a hand wrapped around my wrist, pulling me to a stop.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Cassian demanded, spinning me around to face him.

Up close, I could see the flush on his face, lipstick marks on his neck, the slight glaze in his eyes that told me he'd had more than a few drinks. His hair was disheveled, like s

  • The Mafia Debt   Chapter 117: Goodbye, King

I sit behind the massive oak desk that's been the center of my empire for years, running my fingers along the polished edge one last time. The leather chair creaks as I lean back, taking in the room that's witnessed countless deals, threats, and power plays.Today, it witnesses something different. The end of an era. When Viktor and Xander step through the door, I can tell they sense something's off. Viktor's eyes narrow slightly, he's always been good at reading me while Xander glances around like he's looking for clues."This better be important," Xander says, folding his arms. "I was in the middle of something.""Trust me," I reply, gesturing for them to sit. "It is."Neither moves."I'm stepping away," I say finally, watching their faces carefully. "From everything."Xander's reaction is immediate, his eyes widen, mouth opening slightly in shock. Viktor simply tilts his head, expression unreadable."You're what?" Xander asks, his voice rising. "Is this some kind of joke?""Do I lo

I'm tangled in Cassian's arms, his body radiating heat against my bare skin. His fingers trace idle patterns on my still flat stomach, though I know that won't last much longer."What are you thinking about?" I ask, watching his face. He looks so peaceful in these early morning moments. He doesn't answer immediately, just continues those gentle circles on my skin. When he finally speaks, his voice is rough with sleep. "About how different everything is now."I turn to face him, my hair fanning across the pillow. "Good different or bad different?""Good." He smiled. "Definitely good."My stomach lurches suddenly, that all-too-familiar wave of nausea washing over me. I grimace, trying to breathe through it.Cassian notices immediately. "Again?""Morning sickness should be called all-day sickness," I mutter, swallowing hard. "False advertising."He brushes my hair back from my face. "Want me to get you more crackers?""No, I'm okay." I take a deep breath, willing the nausea to pass. "Thi

AriaI couldn't look at it. The little white stick might as well have been a bomb about to detonate. My fingers trembled as I paced the cold tile floor, my bathrobe slipping off one shoulder. Three minutes. That's all we had to wait. Three minutes that stretched into an eternity, each second ticking by with excruciating slowness."Aria, you're going to wear a hole in the floor," Cassian said from the doorway, arms crossed over his chest.I shot him a glare but didn't stop moving. "How are you so calm right now?""Who says I'm calm?" He ran his fingers through his hair for what must have been the hundredth time, leaving it sticking up in every direction.I resumed my pacing, eyes fixed on the floor. "What if it's positive?""Then we're having a baby.""Just like that? No freaking out? No panic?"He caught my arm as I walked past him again, forcing me to stop. "Oh, I'm panicking, believe me. But panicking together seems better than panicking apart."I bit my lip, glancing toward the co

Cassian's POVI watch her out of the corner of my eye as I steer us away from the airport. Aria's head leans against the window, her eyes closed, but there's something off about her silence. She looks exhausted, sure, but there's something else. I know her better than anyone, and this—this isn't just post-vacation blues."You okay?" I ask, breaking the silence. She shifts slightly, opening her eyes just a crack. "I'm fine," she mumbles. "Just tired."Fine. It's the word she uses when something's really not fine. But I let it go, for now. Maybe she's just jet-lagged from the honeymoon."You sure?" I glance at her again. Her hand rests on her stomach, almost subconsciously. "I can stop somewhere, grab us something to eat. You barely touched anything on the flight."Her head rolls to the side, a small smile playing on her lips, though her eyes remain closed. "No food. Just want to sleep."I'm still not convinced, but it softens my worry for now. I reach over, giving her thigh a gentle sq

We stepped into our bedroom, the day's excitement still coursing through me. My wedding gown had been carefully slipped off hours ago, replaced by soft lace and satin that clung to my skin. Cassian's gaze hadn't left me since we walked through the door, his eyes burning with hunger."Come here," he commanded.I slipped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer. He kissed me gently at first, his lips exploring mine, tasting every moment of our first night as husband and wife. But there was nothing soft about the way his hands gripped my waist.I broke away, my lips tingling, and whispered against his ear, "I've got a surprise for you."His eyes flickered with curiosity. "A surprise?"I nodded, stepping back just enough to reach for the lace of my bralette. Slowly, deliberately, I slid it down, exposing the metal that glinted underneath. His eyes followed the movement, widening as he realized what he was seeing."You didn't..." His voice was breathless, full of shock.I smiled mischie

  • The Mafia Debt   Chapter 112: Mrs. Romano

A week later…Today is the day I marry the man who's been my calm in the storm, my anchor when I was lost at sea. Just thinking about it makes my heart flutter in a way that feels so natural, like it's been building up to this moment forever.Am I nervous? Not even a little. The weird thing is, I thought I'd be. But standing here, looking at the dress hanging on the door, I feel... ready. Completely, utterly ready. There's no one to walk me down the aisle, no one to "give me away," but I don't care. I don't need a grand spectacle or an over-the-top ceremony.I just need him.Viktor is out of the hospital now, recovering at home, which makes today feel even more perfect. Everything has fallen into place, and it's time."Need any help with that zipper?" Emma asks, poking her head through the door. She's been my rock these past few weeks, helping me plan everything."God, yes," I laugh, turning my back to her. "How's everyone doing?""Viktor’s complaining about his suit," she says, caref

  • The Mafia Debt   Chapter 111: Almost Normal

Aria "We can't keep wearing the same clothes," I said, eyeing Cassian's wrinkled shirt that he'd slept in. "And the fridge is completely empty."Cassian ran a hand through his disheveled hair, looking around the barren living room. "Yeah, I wasn't exactly thinking about groceries when I got this place."I walked over to him, looping my arms around his neck. "Look at us. Domestic problems." I smiled, trying to lighten the mood after yesterday's heaviness. "Just... needing to go shopping."His arms encircled my waist, pulling me closer. "Almost normal," he murmured against my hair."Almost." I pulled back slightly, meeting his eyes. "So... mall?"Twenty minutes later, we were walking through automatic doors of the nearest mall."Where first?" Cassian asked, his hand finding mine as if by instinct."Clothes," I decided, tugging him toward a department store. "I'm not spending another day in jeans."Shopping with Cassian was an experience. He trailed behind me through racks of women's cl

Viktor was out of critical care by the next morning. The doctor explained he was stable, though the road to recovery would be long.Dr. Nikolai said, his eyes tired but satisfied. "Try not to exhaust him."Viktor looked small against the hospital sheets. His face brightened when he saw us, though the effort seemed to cost him."There's my favorite lovebirds," he croaked, his voice rough from the breathing tube they'd only recently removed."You look like shit," he told Viktor, but the tremor in his voice betrayed him."Tell me what I don’t know," Viktor attempted a laugh that dissolved into a painful cough.I moved to his bedside, carefully taking his hand in mine. "I'm so sorry I wasn't here.""Don't apologize for protecting yourself, Aria. This life... it takes pieces of you if you're not careful."Cassian shifted uncomfortably beside me. "Save the philosophy for when you're not full of morphine.""The morphine makes me philosophical," Viktor countered weakly. His gaze drifted betwe

"How is he?"Cassian pulled back just enough to look at me, his hands cupping my face as if he needed to assure himself I was real. "Not good. The doctors say..." He swallowed hard. "They're not optimistic."I nodded, blinking back tears. "Can I see him?""He's sleeping now." Cassian's thumb traced the curve of my cheek, his eyes never leaving mine. "Aria, about what happened—""Later," I interrupted gently. "We'll talk about everything later. Right now, I just need..."I didn't finish the sentence, but I didn't have to. Cassian understood. His hand found mine, fingers intertwining as he led me down the corridor, away from Viktor's room and the nursing station."Where are we going?" I asked as he pushed open the door to what looked like a small consultation room.He didn't answer, just pulled me inside and locked the door behind us. The room was furnished with only a small desk and two chairs, a window overlooking the city. Before I could say another word, Cassian's mouth was on mine.
