The Den of Sin was located in a dark part of the rural forests out of the town, and it was true to its name. The large canopy of trees blocked all the sunlight. If you were ever to be lost in these parts, your only solace would be the moonlight.

Sebastian drove into the trees, the stems breaking in our wake. We parked further from the said site with nearly twenty Noir members and police vehicles with silent blares. Commandant laid out the plans for us and the plan was plain and simple.

Get in.

Raid.

Subdue all cult members.

Sebastian handed me his favorite Ghost Colt Walker. I stared with wide eyes.

“Isn’t this..?”

“Take it,” he casually says and pulls out a regular one. “It’s better than most.”

“You never lend anyone your personal favorites. Why now?”

“You’re right, I don’t.” He simply whispers at me. “And you are one of my favorites that I will never lend to anyone.”

I pursed my lips as a blush crept into my cheeks. “Shut up.”

“You finished preparing?” the Commandant asked us to w

  • The Mafia Devil's Princess   The Remnants of the Past

I did everything and risked my life to get Selene in prison. And now, she’s out.I could hear the doctors around me.“Doc— her pulse is spiking! She’s awake!”“Anesthesiologist, take care of this, goddamnit!”I was in anesthesia, but my mind was awake. As they did their surgery on me— I could hear their own ramblings of panic as the monitor made sounds. But I didn’t feel anything— or maybe I did, but the thoughts of hurt numbed me. They cut me open to retrieve the bullet— but nothing could surpass the way I let the Monsignor go for killing my dad.He was there. So close within my reach. If I had a gun, I could have shot him. I could’ve ended it once and for all.‘Fuck it.’ I cursed in my head as I stared onto the ceiling with my low eyes. All I felt was how stupid I was. How all my efforts were now in vain now that they have freed Selene. The only woman who destroyed my life for good, now out with the man I was hunting.“Prolong her anesthesia and halt the surgery. We need more time—“

The words lingered in the interrogation room like a stench.“So in short,” I hissed, my voice trembling with anger, “you asked Monsignor to kill my father?”Desmond’s smirk was vile, curling like rotting fruit. “Call it outsourcing.”Before I could rise, Alexandrei slammed a fist against the table, rattling Desmond’s cuffs. “You son of a—”And then it happened.A sound tore through the walls — deep, guttural, like metal screaming before it broke. The fluorescent lights flickered once, twice, before the entire floor shuddered. The guards outside shouted. Then came the blast.BOOM.The shockwave rattled the glass, sending a hairline crack across the one-way mirror. I stumbled out of my chair as the room plunged into ringing silence, my ears buzzing like an alarm. Dust shook from the ceiling, smoke filtering in through the vents.“What the hell—” Alexandrei barked, pulling me down under the table. The second blast followed, closer. Windows along the hall shattered inward, spraying shards

  • The Mafia Devil's Princess   The Murderer

“The Monsignor?” I looked at my mother with a bamboozled face. “Sounds like a made-up name.”“That’s because it is,” she took the diary and read it. “Monsignor wasn’t just any person. He was an entity. He never showed who he was. But he left crumbs and pieces that showed he existed.”The Monsignor…“And how do we find this person?”“You don’t find him, Kierra!” mom holds my shoulders tightly, as if knocking some sense into me. “You don’t seek the Monsignor.”“But if this person killed Dad… and he’s still out there… how will I ever know that you’re safe?”So this is why. This is why my mother has never gotten the semblance of a normal life. She’s being chased by a man that no one has ever seen.It seems like hunting this Monsignor is a hard task.“The Hails must have information about him.” I thought to myself. But I couldn’t bring myself to tell mom that I was planning to seek this man.I need answers. And I need justice. My life went downhill from the time the Hails mistreated my d

  • The Mafia Devil's Princess   The Bigger Fish

“Thanks for meeting me here, Alex.”I looked from side to side to check our surroundings as I met Alexandrei in the lobby of the condo that I had rented for my mom.“How has she been?” I asked him as we went into the elevator.“She’s anxious,” he tells me while pushing the button. “You still haven’t explained to me what happened. You promised you would tell me if I had my men look after her.”I frowned.“I can’t protect a person I do not fully know, Kie,” he look at me straight in the eye. “And you still haven’t told me who were chasing me the other day when I covered for your mother.”“I do not know who they are either.” I replied. “I just know that it was Desmond’s dogs, probably.”“Desmond’s in jail.”“But his words continue to reach his people.” I looked at him dead in the eye. “We should cut off their visitation days. That way, we can be guaranteed there’ll be no more orders.”“There has been no one visiting the Hails these past weeks.”What…?But that’s impossible.“If it’s not

  • The Mafia Devil's Princess   The Abandoned Child

“We’re back, Mr. Novair.” Tobias greeted us as he returned to the vehicle right after school with his new friend, Daryl. I stared at the two. Since when have they become such good friends? Was it right after I took Daryl in for a night? My gaze focused on the boy as he stared at me. Tobias opened the car’s door and went inside— but Daryl didn’t. “What’s wrong? Aren’t you coming in?” I was surprised to hear Tobi invite him. He hated him, but now it seemed he had softened for the boy, too. “We were gonna hang out, right?”“I…” Daryl began and then looked at Sebastian and I. I quickly got what he was trying to hint at.“Daryl?”“Miss Evans…” my spines straightened as he called my name. “…how’s Mommy and Daddy doing?”My heart broke. What do I even say to him? That I put them to jail?My throat became dry. And for once, I was out of words. Daryl didn’t deserve to have bad parents like Selene and Damian. Daryl didn’t deserve to be abandoned and to pay the price for his mother’s sins. I

  • The Mafia Devil's Princess   Rumors About the Kid

“I had the weirdest thing happen to me today,” I hopped into the car and handed Sebastian his drink. He took it with one hand as he closed the door for me.“What?”“I bumped into someone,” I settled myself in and made myself comfortable. “I almost spilled your drink on him, good thing he caught me in time.”“He?” Sebastian raised an eyebrow while starting the engine. “Just now?”“Yeah,” I tried to scan my eyes across my surroundings, looking for the man I was speaking of. “I didn’t expect he’d steady me out. For his age, he is quite strong.”“For his age?” Sebastian now looked at me with a suspicious look. “What are you talking about?”“He was old,” I took a sip of my drink. “Exquisite taste of fashion too.”Sebastian rolled his eyes and started driving. We talked about a few things, including picking up Tobias from school. The school he enrolled in was already in the city, so it didn’t take that long for us to arrive.“Sebastian, can I ask you something?”“Hm?” he answered, while loo
