Arthur Vermont, the king And Alpha of Vermont, sat on his brown, golden throne, thinking about the recent predicament he was endowed with. The stupid need for him to get married, especially to royalty to help expand his kingdom. To him, it was unnecessary.
But he knew deep down, his stepbrother will do all it takes to use things like that against him. If he objects to the elders' proposals, it will be a reason to voice out that he wasn't fit to become king. That he's disrespectful, conceited, and arrogant. He's cold, he's this and that.Truly he's all that, but he doesn't wanna give his stepbrother any ammo to pull one over him so he had to accept marrying princess Kara of Mey kingdom since he was incapable of having a mate. His enemies called him cursed since having a mate was something crucial in their world but he searched and couldn't find her so marrying princess Kara Mey was without choice. He actually frowns at that name due to the description they gave of her. Innocent, submissive, respectful, she hasn't even been able to turn to her wolf which is no big deal...he could use those characteristics to bench her, even though she's not the kind of lady he'll want to become his wife but then, he could always get another woman. The big oak door in front of him opened, revealing the light outside and illuminating the room. His royal guard gave him a bow before straightening up. "A lady from Mey seek your audience, Alpha Vermont."Arthur nodded. "Okay." He bluntly said. The guard curtsied and went outside, later bringing the beautifully dressed maiden in. There was a smile on her face, a hand fan that she used to fan herself, her other hand holding her pink corset dress covered with layers of petticoats. She was also wearing a straw and fabric bonnet hat and pink long hand gloves, looking so beautiful as she walked toward the king, and then she gave him a bow with one of her knees bent in respect. "King Vermont..." She looked at him and elegantly straightened herself. "I'm princess Catherine of Mey. Kara's elder sister."Arthur nodded, his face cold toward her. "Go straight to the point." He said, not minding the fact that she visited so early. She let out an awkward chuckle and nodded, her face suddenly becoming sad, her eyes blinking before getting glossy. "I'm here with bad news, king Vermont."Arthur arched his brow in a flash. "As I said, get straight to the point."Catherine nodded. "I came all the way here to inform you that my sister committed suicide last night."Arthur tilted his head in wonder and his brow raised in amusement. "Suicide?"Catherine nodded. "She drowned herself to death. She's incapable of swimming and no one knew about it until she was found dead and brought out."Arthur chuckled in disbelief and shook his head. "Wow. Any reason why?"Catherine shook her head. "Don't know. Maybe because she was scared of being given to you. She told me that a lot."Arthur nodded. "My condolences then." He said without any ounce of care.Catherine equally nodded with a pitiful face. "Thanks, although now that she's dead, I am the next in line, right?"Arthur scoffed. "There's a reason why I chose your sister. So I can control her."Catherine shrugged. "You can control me too. I'll do whatever you want me to do."Arthur narrowed his eyes at her, then he nodded. "The morning is still new, you should go back to your kingdom. I'll be there to give my condolences, then I'll talk to your father."Catherine bowed with a smile on her face. "Thanks, King Vermont."...Arthur entered the opened doorway of the dining and walked toward the table seeing his stepmom, stepbrother, and his wife already on their feet, respecting his arrival. He knew how much they hated it but they had no choice. It made him remember when it was done for his late father. He was gone so soon, leaving his responsibility to him.He walked to the master chair and sat down majestically, his eyes on the two types of food preparation."So, you slept in the throne room today again." His stepmom, Bianca began earning his gaze."Is that a problem?""It's just not that good. Your muscles and joints could be affected since it's uncomfortable."Arthur scoffed. "Am I to believe that you care?" He questioned with a raised eyebrow."You're practically my son, Authur. Like it or not." Bianca asserted.Arthur looked away, deciding to keep quiet."My wife told me something..."Arthur looked at Kevin, his stepbrother. "And I care because...""The woman you're about to get married to is dead." Kevin dropped.Arthur looked at Jennifer. "And how do you know that?"Jennifer blinked and looked at him. "My friend Catherine. She met me before she left back to her kingdom." She said in a soft and clear voice."What are you going to do about it, Arthur? You know you need to get married. It's vital you do." Bianca cajoled carefully."Must it be to that household?" Arthur inquired.Bianca lowered her gaze in thought and nodded before looking back at Authur. "Now, it must be... After all, the girl died because of her fear of you. You don't want the kingdom to blame you for their second princess's early demise."Arthur squinted his eyes at Bianca knowing there were ulterior motives to those suggestions. He looked at his head chef who just stood with ducked head as well as other maids as they stood in wait in case anything was asked of them. "Make do with this food. Don't have any appetite." Then he stood up and walked away. They watched him leave as the door opened for him, then the door closed shut as he completely left.Bianca looked at the young brown-haired girl who sat like a ghost in front of her with a disgusted expression. "You should leave too, Henrietta. Take your food with you."Henrietta took her tray of food, stood up and left the dining.Bianca looked at her son beside her. "This is becoming too often for Arthur."Kevin nodded. "Don't have a problem with that, though.""Do you think he's gonna marry Catherine?" Jennifer questioned inquisitively.Bianca nodded. "He won't have a choice. He's got something to prove and it won't derail our plans against him.""I'm tired of being under him, mom. I'm his eldest and yet, father chose him?" Kevin scoffed, shaking his head. "Is that how much he loved his dead second wife? Unbelievable."Bianca sighed. "Monica stole your father's love from me and even in her death, she still did. Still couldn't believe your father handed over his throne to Arthur.""I deserve that throne, mom. I want it." Kevin asserted.Bianca nodded. "And you'll get it."A loud howl woke Kira up, her eyes widened in shock as she wondered what the sound was but everything that happened began spiraling in her head.It made her sit up from the bed in shock, her eyes settling on the small room she was in. The walls were painted white, there were weird white and black medical posters and some kind of equipment around. There was a chandelier above her, and carpeted floors, and behind her was the window with white curtains swaying back and forth due to the wind coming in.She began hearing the audible voices of a man and a woman."You're sure she's fine? She literally died, doctor. You announced it yourself." It was the voice of the man who called her princess."I checked her vitals, blood pressure, her heart rate..., it's all good, Alpha Mey. It's a miracle that she's alive." The woman's voice was also familiar. She was the first voice she heard when she woke up.Kira ran her hand through her hair, not understanding an inkling of what was happening. She was
Kira looked around the big designated room she was taken to, a sharp scent of lavender overpowered her senses, putting a small smile on her face which immediately left as she looked around the room.It looked girly and she hated anything girly. Although it was beautiful. The walls were covered in brown, flowery wallpaper, containing beautiful painted portraits that were hung. Some of it was a white big wolf, some were her pictures, and some were just random. It was obvious it happened to be a talent of the princess. The bed wasn't modernized but it did look comfy with thick white and brown cases and the two huge cushions and throw pillows covered in floral-designed chestnut cases and beside it were bedside tables and beaded lampshades on the tables. It was a square, well-designed room. Her window has lush silk and heavy fabric with a rich, deep red and golden design color, draped by golden tassels and tiebacks.By her right where she stood was the dressing table and gold-framed mirror
A maidservant ran out of the house into the garden where she knew she'd find the king. "THE PRINCESS IS MISSING!!!" The girl yelled, earning everyone's attention. The king looked away from the man he was talking to and at the maidservant running toward him. She stopped in front of the king, breathing heavily. "Alpha, um...""Speak out!!" The king yelled at her.The girl swallowed, trying to catch her breath. "It's...it's the princess. The princess. She's nowhere in her room. I've searched but I can't find her."The Alpha's eyes widened and he looked around in fear, mentally hitting himself for not expecting it. It's as if he knew nothing about his daughter anymore. "Everyone, go find her right now! Find her and bring her back here! How did she escape?!" The king yelled, not liking the news.Catherine came out of the back of the mansion upon hearing the turmoil. She looked at Davina who was carrying her tray of fruits. "What's happening?""The princess is missing," Davina told her, ann
Kira gasped in shock as her corset was tightened further. Her face was contorted and her breathing seized as they dragged it once again. "God, damn it!" She snapped, causing the maidservant to pause."Uh?" The maidservant voiced out in confusion.Kira was finding it hard to breathe freely and she was feeling hot everywhere. "Geez. Is this…is this necessary?"The maidservant was confused. "My lady, you know that it's necessary. Besides, you need to look beautiful for your husband-to-be." She said and Kira could feel the smile in her voice.Kira scoffed and turned to look at her. "And who the hell are you? What's your name?" She asked, seeing as the girl seemed free toward her, especially for an ordinary maid.'She's your personal maid, Aryann. Also a good friend to Kara.' Cara disclosed.Aryann was shocked at the question and her eyes watery. "Are you…are you saying you don't remember me?"Kira blinked at her sudden transition and she answered since she hated anything awkward. "Don't m
Kira smirked as she found a new will to perform. If she arrived in the nineteenth century by falling into a big river, then she could go back by falling into the lake just like the princess. Why the hell did she even try to commit suicide? What sort of stupidity is that? So unbelievable. If she hadn't committed suicide then she wouldn't have been here.'I think there could be a valid reason, Kira. Nothing happens without one.'Kira laughed. "Oh, look at the voice in my head. Feeling so smart. I guess you were probably the one who advised her to kill herself.''Don't get me wrong, Kira. Just think about it. You being here is abnormal enough except there has to be a purpose behind it.'"What stupid purpose, voice? Please stop acting so smart and let me think. I can't think with you disturbing my head..."The door to her room opened and her personal maid, Aryann entered with a big bowl of hot water. She looked around in confusion. "Uh, my lady, where you speaking to someone?"Kira looked
Kira sat still as she let the maids take care of her hair and face. Her stomach churned and her heartbeat increased with each passing second. She kept trying hard not to give in to the panic and anxiety threatening to hit her but it seems inevitable. She wasn't even scared of death but look at her shaking at the thought of getting married. 'No, it's not me.''It's you.' Cara countered.'It's not me.' Kira retorted.'It's you.' Cara argued.'No, it's not! I don't get scared this way. This is probably one of the perks of being in a body as fragile as this.' Kira countered.'Just admit it, Kira. You're scared.'Kira gritted her teeth in annoyance and saw that her makeup was fully done and her hair beautifully packed and endowed with hair pins. The princess is truly a beaut.Soon, the maid left and Aryann with a middle-aged woman dressed in royalty came into the room with her wedding dress and jewelry. She frowned at the crinoline Aryann was holding and she blinked after realizing once ag
Coming to the conclusion that it was now or never, Kara took in a deep breath and slowly began walking into the hall. Every step she took was followed by a painful heartbeat. She feared that her heart might burst out of her chest at the rate at which it was beating. She tried not to look at anyone even though she could feel all eyes on her. It was all weird. Being among strangers. It made her feel like she was all alone in the world. It's probably her punishment for every sin she committed in the past.George smiled at her as she got to him and then she was led to a seat. She was beginning to wish Aryann was beside her. She hated how she felt vulnerable. Everyone expected something from her and she hated it. She could only bow her head and keep thinking about her life. About how she could survive this marriage and plan her way out of the place. She was so lost in thoughts that everything around her went blank. A tap on her shoulder made her look up and distractedly utter, “Huh?“It wa
'Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you.'Seeing his hand wrapped around hers, Kara raised her head up to look up at him. The height difference almost caused her tiara to fall off her head, so she quickly broke free of his hold to fix it.“What are you doing?“ She heard a question. It was from a female voice who looked young.“Fixing… this thi…thing on my…head.“ She replied, getting annoyed at the fact that it refused to stay.“You were supposed to talk about your virtue.“ Kars heard again causing her to look at the girl talking. She looked at the teenage girl sitting on the chair besides where King Vermont was sitting. She almost did a double-take as she saw how stunning the girl was. She was dressed like a princess and had some resemblance to King Vermont. Then she remembered what the girl said, annoyed that all the confused faces around her were still waiting for her to recite her virtues. What the hell does virtuous recitation mean?God, the middle ages were damn weird! So, she stutter
