Chapter 1

ผู้เขียน: Peachy
My mafia husband, the heir Marcello, just asked for a divorce. I said yes immediately.

Marcello froze for a second. Then his face darkened.

"I'm not joking."

"Me neither."

I looked up at him. I didn't blink.

He looked annoyed for a moment, as if I shouldn't be so calm.

He slammed the papers on the coffee table and listed my "sins": too stubborn, not submissive enough, hanging around a biker shop and shaming the family.

I just found it ridiculous.

When he pushed Chloe away back then, wasn't her submissive elegance exactly what he hated most?

There is no right or wrong here.

I knew from the start. Forced love never lasts.

Three years ago, Marcello used me as an excuse to fight his family. He ruined the peace I had finally found.

Back then, I had just been brought to the Russo estate from the Detroit slums.

Life was quiet.

We kept our boundaries and stayed out of each other's way.

She had lost her adoptive parents. My parents asked if I was willing to formally accept her as the eldest daughter of the Russo family.

I nodded. I even called her sister first.

My foster parents in Detroit were poor, but they gave me more than enough love.

I didn't need to envy anyone over class differences. I gladly gave her that dignity.

Until Marcello—heir to the Vitiello crime family—showed up.

He found out about the bloodline swap. He fought everyone, tore up his engagement with Chloe, and insisted on marrying me—a street girl covered in grease.

From that day on, the air in the estate changed.

Father raged. Mother grew bitter. My oldest brother looked at me with disgust. Chloe cried all day long.

To them, overnight, I became a cheap whore who acted innocent but sneaked into her future brother-in-law's bed.

But I didn't take the blame.

I lived by the simplest rule of the Detroit streets: If I didn't do it, I don't own it. I have a mouth, and I will clear my name to their faces.

I laid my cards on the table right at a family meeting.

"I only saw him at mandatory family dinners. I never touched him in private," I coldly looked around at my so-called blood relatives. "He went crazy and changed his mind. That's not on me. I don't care how powerful the Vitiellos are. A Russo daughter is not his random pawn. Call him here. Let's do this face to face. Do not use me as a shield for your failed alliance!"

The meeting room went dead silent.

Father looked moved. My brother quietly sighed in relief. A spark of hope flashed in Chloe's eyes.

They believed me a little. After all, they knew I didn't care enough to lie over the past year.

Right then, tires screeched outside.

Marcello didn't even knock.

He brought a squad of heavily armed mobsters and kicked the estate doors wide open.

Tall and imposing, he carried a heavy, suffocating presence. He ignored every gun pointed at him.

"Who cares if she's from the streets? Go back a few generations, everyone's ancestors rolled in the mud," he exhaled cigar smoke. His voice was pure arrogance.

He walked straight to the center of the hall, scanning the angry Russos, before locking eyes with me.

"If the Russos want to raise a fake, that's your business. The Vitiellos value pure Cosa Nostra blood." He looked down and smiled at me. His tone left no room for debate. "The pact was always between you and me. The Vitiellos will never take a fake."

At the word "fake," Chloe violently shivered. Her face turned ghost pale.

The tiny bit of trust my family had just built for me shattered instantly.

The fire returned to their eyes when they looked at me.

But I didn't look at them.

I glared dead at Marcello.

He was smiling at me, but from the corner of his eye, he stared at Chloe on the couch like a viper.

There was zero love for me in that look. Only a cruel, sick, twisted thrill.

Like he finally got his revenge.

My blood ran cold.

It was bizarre.

He wasn't here to marry me. He was getting back at Chloe. He hated her.

But why?

Weren't they childhood sweethearts?

Julian looked sharp in his tailored suit, his coffee mug warm in his hand as always. "Senior Prosecutor in D.C." He placed his transfer papers on the table. "I start next month."I nodded, showing no surprise. He earned it. The man had ambition, skill, and principles. The legal side needed men like him. "Congratulations," I raised my mug. "Prosecutor Julian."He gave a bitter smile. "Aurora, you know what I want to say.""I know." I put the mug down. "But there's no need."Julian looked at me, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. "If I hadn't backed down back then... if I hadn't agreed to the switch... what would have happened?"The question hung in the air for a long time. I looked out the window at the Detroit streets, the familiar rundown buildings, the slums where I once lived. "'If' is a word for losers." I smiled slightly, raising my mug to clink his. "The past is gone, the future isn't promised, we only have today.""And today, the streets of Detroit and Chicago belong

"Let them in." I slammed a grease-covered wrench onto the metal workbench. The screech of wheelchair tires scraping against the concrete floor echoed through the auto shop. The two heavily armed guards outside lowered their SMGs and stepped aside. The roller door slowly rolled up, letting the blinding sunlight flood into the dim garage. The wheelchair rolled over the greasy concrete, making a dull, struggling squeak. I looked up and saw Chloe pushing Marcello in his wheelchair at the entrance. The former mafia prince, who once kicked down estate doors with total arrogance, was now slumped in a custom wheelchair like a pile of rotting meat. Chloe looked terrifyingly gaunt, her eyes hollow. She didn't look anything like a mafia princess anymore. The haute couture she used to treasure was long gone, replaced by a cheap, threadbare coat. Her withered face was ashen, and her once-proud neck was completely bowed. "Aurora." Chloe’s voice shook. "We need to talk."I dropped the wren

Chloe's bridge-jumping stunt turned both families into the biggest joke of the underworld. As the fallout from her little show spread, the paper-thin illusion of their power was completely shredded. I didn't give them a second to breathe. I ordered a total lockdown on their dark web trading channels and secretly severed their last few weapon and vehicle smuggling lines. I even paid off key middlemen to tank their remaining legitimate logistics network. I sat in my office, listening to Rico's latest report. "Donna, per your orders, we cut off their three main weapon supply chains." Rico placed the file on my desk. "The Vitiello family's cash flow is down 70%.""Good." I flipped through the report. "How are the rival factions reacting?""The Irish, the Russians, and the cartels down South are all getting restless." Rico sounded slightly thrilled. "They smell blood in the water."I put the file down and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window. Night fell, and the neon lights of C

"Here's your care package." I slid a manila envelope across the table. "That's the Irish mob's operational plan for next month."Julian took the envelope and nodded. "Your intel is as sharp as always."This gray-area collaboration between us had been going on for over half a year. He needed leads to fight crime; I needed to wipe out my rivals. We both got what we wanted. No debts. "Let's go." I stood up. "That's all for today."As we walked out of the coffee shop, Julian suddenly stopped. "Aurora, something's happening on the overpass ahead."I followed his gaze. A figure was standing on the outside of the bridge railing, ready to jump at any second. "Damn it." I cursed and sprinted toward the bridge. Julian was right behind me. By the time we reached the bridge, the person already had one foot off the edge. It was a woman in an expensive Chanel suit, but her hair was a mess and half her makeup was smeared. "Don't come any closer!" she screamed hysterically. "Stay away!"I st

"This signature on your fire permit is wrong. Your club is shutting down today." The fat inspector from City Hall slapped the seal hard on my bar. I sat on a barstool, slowly blowing out a puff of cigar smoke. "This paper was legal yesterday, but suddenly it's wrong today. Who gave you the balls to come messing around on my turf?" I glared at him coldly. The fat inspector wiped his sweat, pretending to stay tough. My fingers slowly slipped toward the holster at my waist. Just then, a slender hand pressed down on the seal. "The signature looks perfectly legal to me. Mr. Inspector, are you overstepping your bounds?"The fat inspector was about to snap, but when he saw the federal credentials the man flashed, his face turned white. He didn't even dare to leave a parting threat before scurrying away with his men. "The license issue is sorted."The man in the sharp suit pushed up his glasses and dropped a stack of files on my desk. I looked up and recognized that gentle face. Juli

Word travels fast in the underworld. Aurora didn't walk away with nothing. I carved a massive chunk of flesh right off the Vitiello family's bones. Soon after, Marcello threw a high-profile wedding for Chloe, who had just divorced Julian. Ironically, the golden girl I supposedly stole from him was back in his arms. "Boss, you have guests."I was in my new Detroit office, tallying the spoils of my takeover. The man who walked in was my oldest brother, whom I hadn't seen in ages. Along with my biological mother. Three years apart, and they had aged terribly. The scar on my brother’s forehead—where I smashed him—was still visible. My mother’s hair was half gray. "Aurora." My brother’s voice was hoarse. "How have you been?"I didn't look up, just kept flipping through the files. "Spit it out."They sat on the couch. My brother pulled a land deed from his briefcase. "This is a prime plot at the Chicago docks. Worth a fortune," he said cautiously. "Consider it compensation from the
