I woke up to the sound of alarms and Thorne's fear bleeding through the bond so sharp it felt like knives in my chest. His arm was still around me and I could feel him trembling and when I looked at his face I saw his eyes were open but unfocused like he was seeing something I could not see.

"Thorne," I said and I shook him gently. "What is wrong."

"They are killing someone," he whispered and his voice was raw. "Through the bond. I can feel them dying."

I sat up and tried to understand what he was saying and then I felt it too. A presence at the edge of my consciousness that was connected to us through some kind of secondary network and that presence was screaming in agony as something tore it apart from the inside.

"Who is it," I asked.

"I do not know. Someone they bonded to us without telling us. Someone who is connected to our network."
