[Darcy]

After long days of interviewing job applicants, I could relax a little more on that Monday. My colleagues and I had a meeting in the morning to select the right people for our team. I needed a complete team, a ready-to-use space, and sufficient capital to apply for the business license.

Isla, my former HR manager, helped us determine the right candidates to hire. Lydia and Vicky's input gave us many ideas to improve our team.

“Thank you for your hard work,” I said. “Isla, contact everyone who passed the selection process. They can start working. I’ll handle the business permits. Hopefully, we’ll get the permits before the end of the year.”

“What about your deputy?” Vicky asked. “You said you had a candidate.”

“He’s on vacation and promised to come next Monday to introduce himself,” I replied.

Lydia furrowed her brow. “Who is this person? Why won’t you mention his name?”

I chuckled. “The man might break his promise. I don’t want to share my disappointment with you.”

[Sinclair]Joaquin worked with the police to bring Conrad and me down. They offered him a reduced sentence if he was willing to frame me. I was careless and forgot that I had many enemies within the institution. The attack on that disastrous night was just a trap to allow the authorities to investigate my people and me. They wouldn't find anything in Conrad's organization, but they could manipulate the evidence and accuse us of stalking. They would know that Conrad and I collected all the evidence of Sean, Bridget, Joaquin, and several politicians who had issues with me. I was aware of the risks associated with my actions. Therefore, I kept my relationship with Conrad a secret.Fortunately, Giovanni helped me and my men escape the trap set by the police and politicians. They wouldn’t dare cause trouble for him because the SW Group was in his hands. He also held the secret of their involvement in that dirty business.“What’s that sound?” Darcy asked. “Who’s coming this early?”Hearing

I forced Scott to tell me the truth that weekend. It turned out that enemies had tried to break into the house a few nights earlier. They dealt with the problem quickly, and I didn't wake up at all.Sinclair didn't ask me about it that night. I knew my bodyguard had reported everything to him. My husband probably didn't want to discuss the attack. I chose to remain silent. He protected me by keeping the attack a secret. We visited his family's graves on Sunday. The place was beautiful. Although the headstones were simple, flowers adorned all three graves. Sinclair must have assigned someone to do that.Dashiell told us a lot about his grandfather, grandmother, and uncle. His knowledge was quite detailed. He knew their birthdays, when they died, and their habits. Sinclair and the servants must have told him all that.Sinclair took us to Cullen’s grave. We walked there. Seeing the headstone, I didn’t feel disappointed or angry. His actions broke my heart, but I tried to understand. Desp

Conrad chose his headquarters as our meeting place. His entire team was there, enjoying the food, drinks, and entertainment he had prepared for them. He suggested holding the event at the SW nightclub, but I refused.Giovanni had his ways and systems. He didn't copy my style of doing business. The place was too dark for us. Darcy would be angry if she knew I went there because the club had strippers.I was against such performances in front of a crowd, but I allowed dancers who wanted to give exclusive performances in a closed room. Even though officials protected the business, those corrupt people would not protect me if I got into legal trouble.“Guys, attention please. The man we've been waiting for has arrived,” Conrad called out.The place abruptly fell silent. People stopped talking, and the DJ paused the music. Those playing pool or darts halted their games. Everyone turned their gaze toward Conrad and me.“You did a good job. I appreciate it. People who committed the crime hav

[Sinclair]I went to Wallace's favorite coffee shop. Its location was in a hotel. We didn't have to worry about anyone interrupting or eavesdropping on our conversation. The man came with his secretary. The mayor kept his promise. He transferred the rest of the city's loan to my company. I gave him the receipt and ended our cooperation on good terms. After talking about business, we enjoyed coffee and pastries.“I know all your demands regarding the crimes committed against your family. The commissioner promised to personally oversee the investigation into the crimes of Stephen Kent, Marcel Cooper, Sean Channing, and Joaquin Fernandez. His subordinates won’t dare to cause trouble,” Wallace explained.“I did that as a token of gratitude for your help during the eight years I served. The city could undertake many projects because Wyndham Finance approved my loan request,” he concluded.“You're welcome,” I replied.Wallace shared his plans after retirement. He would leave politics. I returned Lionel's greeting and entered the house. He glanced toward the family room, indicating where my family was. Since I hadn't eaten, I headed to the dining room. The maids served the food for me, and I enjoyed it in silence.I sighed and exhaled repeatedly, trying to calm my emotions. The series of events had caused my mood to fluctuate drastically. Sinclair's lies, Cullen's car dashboard video, and finally, my late husband's confession.I pushed those thoughts aside. It wasn’t the time to dwell on my feelings. Dashiell and Keane were waiting for me to come home. I read the letter in the park to satisfy my curiosity. I could think about the issue after the children were asleep.“Mom!!” Dashiell called out. He ran over and hugged me. “Did you just have dinner? We heard you come in, but you didn’t come to see us.”I kissed his head. “Yes,” I replied. I forgot. They could hear the front door from the room. A baby’s cry interrupted us. “Yes, Keane. Mommy’s coming.”“Why does my br
