Chapter 60

Opening the door to Gabriele’s hospital room. He stared at him until Gabriele opened his eyes. Walking over to the bed, he asked, “How do you feel?”

Gabriele chuckled, but his body hurt. Sitting up, he said, “I’ve seen better days.”

He nodded his head. “Daphnee told me that she forced your hand. Why didn’t you tell me?”

Gabriele looked at his broken leg, asking, “Would you believe me? All I know is to do what I am told. I didn’t expect for my instruction to turn out like that.”

Dante recalled Gabriele’s expression when they walked into the house, and he didn’t seem surprised.

“You certainly looked guilty,” he said.

Shaking his head, Gabriele said, “It’s because I knew the outcome once I saw the bodies in front of the house. Daphnee, she, overtime I saw the changes in her but I didn’t know it was to this extreme.”

Sitting down, Dante thought about his wife thinking, ‘It’s my fault she is like this.’
