Daphnée and Alessandro walked hand in hand into a woman’s shoe store. An attendant walked over to them and the first thing she thought was, ‘This fat bitch caught herself a handsome man.’
“Welcome sir, how may I help you today?” She asked.
Alessandro’s brows knitted, and he said in a not so pleased tone, “The customer is here and she speaks English.”
She turned to Daphnée after getting a glare from Alessandro and said, “How may I help you today, madam?”
Daphnée was already offended that she ignored her. She walked past her up to another attendant and took off her shoe. She handed it to her and said, “Bring me all your shoes in this size and they better be able to compensate for my weight. She already pissed me off, and I am a few seconds away from closing this place down.”
She walked over to one of the couches and sat down. The attendants looked at her confused then the one holding her shoes looked at the shoe size and heard Alessandro say, “She is a VIP client and I suggest you bring out your VIP treatment, and send the manager down, Mrs Bardi does not want to be kept waiting.”
He walked over to her as the attendants scrambled to get things done. Alessandro stood beside her and asked, “May I sit please?”
She looked at him confused, then nodded her head. “Sure.”
He sat down and started, “You should never let anyone disrespect you.”
She turned to him and smiled. “It will take me time to learn Italian, so I will need you to translate shit for me so that I don’t look stupid. Isn’t there one of those listening devices that the FBI agents use that is like a two-way communication device?”
He smiled at her and said, “There is, and I will be happy to arrange that for you.”
She saw the attendants walking over with boxes of shoes and said, “I don’t think the SUV has enough space for me and all those boxes.”
Alessandro smiled as he got up and said, “Leave that up to me.”
The attendants followed behind the manager, who had a bottle of champagne in an ice bucket on a black tray with a box of handcrafted chocolates.
The manager smiled and said, “Mrs Bardi, welcome. If I knew we would receive you, I would have welcomed you myself. I am Claudette Russi and I will be at your service.”
Daphnée smiled. “I’m here to buy shoes.”
Claudette poured a glass of champagne and said, “We have the best shoes here.”
“But they will not be the best if they do not fit my feet and accommodate my weight. They are not the best,” Daphnée said with a smirk.
Claudette nodded slowly in agreement then turned to her workers and clapped her hands together, “Come, start presenting the shoes to our client.”
Daphnée nodded her head as she tried the shoes on and walked around with them. She turned to Alessandro and asked, “What do you think?”
He looked at her considerably and nodded. “Perfecto, but we need more diamonds.”
Claudette looked at him and couldn’t agree more. She sent her attendants to bring their most expensive pairs of heels that had diamonds in them and she instantly fell in love. She looked at Claudette and asked, “Why didn’t you bring these out before?”
“These shoes were designed for a celebrity here in Milan and hearing that you like diamonds, I thought of them,” she answered.
“Well, won’t this get you into trouble?” Daphnée asked.
“Oh no madam Bardi…”
“Please call me Daphnée, madam Bardi is my mother-in-law,” Daphnée interrupted her.
“Miss Daphnée, these are not in your size. We will have them designed for you and sent to you as soon as they are done,” she explained.
Daphnée stood up and said, “Okay, and please design thigh-high boots for me as well.”
She turned to Alessandro and said, “I think it’s time to pay.” She turned to Claudette and said, “Pack all the shoes up. I agreed on. I look forward to hearing from you.”
“Certainly,” she answered.
Daphnée headed to the till and received her card from Alessandro. She looked at it, then said, “I do not want to pay with my money. Is there any way possible that you can get hold of Mr Bardi’s money?”
Alessandro smirked and pulled another card out and whispered, “I’ve always thought that it is not a woman’s place to pay for things and thus I stole something.”
She looked at the card and saw a strange name on it. He whispered the pin into her ear, and she couldn’t help but smile. The total was rung up and Claudette said, “Your final total is thirty-three thousand euros.”
Daphnée tapped the card against the card machine and entered the pin. The card machine said, ‘pin accepted’ and the slip came spiralling out.
They walked out of the store after leaving her address. She looked up at him and asked, “Where to next?”
He looked down at her and said, “Since we have the boss’s card, let’s buy jewellery. It was scheduled for the end of the week, but there is no harm in emptying your schedule.”
“What are we going to buy there?” She asked.
“The boss ordered the designs of your wedding ring. We will go view the designs and you’ll choose which one you want and you can buy whatever jewellery you like,” he answered and helped her into the car.
They arrived at Diamante Grezzo and she saw two vehicles similar to the one she was riding in outside. A man came up to the car and Alessandro got out. They spoke briefly, and he handed him two silver briefcases.
Alessandro climbed into the back, sitting beside her, and locked the car from inside. She looked at him and asked, “Why are we not going inside?”
Alessandro opened one of the briefcases and said, “I told you I will organise it. This is the two-way listening device, and if I may?”
“Go ahead,” she said. He placed it in her left ear and covered it with her hair. He placed the second device into his ear and said, “Now we can hear what we say without being in the same place.”
She nodded her head and said, “Okay, so what is in the other briefcase?”
“Your guns,” he answered, and her eyes widened. He raised his finger as he opened it and explained, “You do not need to worry about this now, but you will need to know how to use one. Just because you are his wife by name does not actually mean so. You need to put your life down for him and be his bodyguard when you are with him. And as his queen, many should fear you, and being able to use a gun has its advantages.”
He opened the briefcase and showed it to her. She glared at the guns and asked, “Why would I need five guns?”
Alessandro chuckled. “One you’ll place under your pillow. Another under your desk at work and one you will keep in your purse, another I will keep on me and the fifth you can place anywhere you like. You will also have knives delivered and will learn how to throw them.”
“Okay,” she said, and closed the case. Alessandro chuckled and said, “Shall we head inside? They know we are here.”
A few months later…Giovanni and Aurora climbed into the back of a limo. Facing Aleksandr, the twins could tell that something was wrong. Aleksandr looked at Aurora, “Aren’t you going to greet me?”She smirked. “Do you seriously want to do this in front of my brother? You know he doesn’t like you.”“Cut the crap Aleks, why did you call me here? Wouldn’t it be better if it was only Aurora?”“Well, I wouldn’t call you for anything. You know we don’t get along, but I’m doing this for Aurora.”He looked at her and saw that she was confused. “So I know the story and I find it strange that your father doesn’t want to talk about it, so I did my research.”Pulling out an envelope, he handed it to Giovanni.Giovanni took the envelope cautiously and opened it. Aurora placed her hand on his. Her heart was beating incredibly fast, and she was unable to fathom what was on those papers. Looking at her brother, she shook her head. “I thought you didn’t care.”Staring at his sister, he hook his head
Aurora felt guilty from the depths of her soul and heart. She could feel that her brother was staring at her and she didn’t know if she wanted to look at him or dig a hole and die. “Why are you staring at me?” she asked as she finally got the courage to look back at him.To her surprise, Giovanni wore what seemed to be a bored expression on his face. He should be freaked out by this information, but he didn’t seem to be bothered at all. “Why do you look like you don’t care?”“It’s not that I don’t care. You’re just making a big deal about nothing. I already told you that you shouldn’t listen to those girls, but it looks like you’ll jump into a fire if they mentioned it a bunch of times.”Aurora sighed. “It’s not like that. I don’t know why, but it’s like something told me to look into it.”“And what did you get out of it? A broken heart, red eyes and me glaring at you? You even made momma cry with your stupidity! Just because you have the resources to do shit doesn’t always mean that
Aurora walked into the house with heavy steps. Suddenly, it felt like there was a heavy load on her shoulders with all the information she now knew.‘Don’t worry about it. Just forget it,’ Aleksandr told her before he dropped her off, but how could she? I dug my grave. How am I going to face them now? “Oh, you’re here?” Giovanni said as he walked out of the living room, snapping her out of her thoughts. She looked at him and saw that he was typing away on his phone as he walked round shirtless and in green socks. “She’s got presents again for us. You took so damn long. I want to find out what she got us.” Walking up to him, she asked, “Why didn’t you just open yours?”“Did you forget? We always open our shit together. What’s wrong with you? Forgetting your own rules like a damn idiot.”She nodded her head as he walked away, following behind him as she put some distance between them. From head to toe, she looked at her brother. ‘How did I not see it? But how am I going to live witho
“So when are you going to be my girlfriend?” Aleksandr Novikov said as he stared across the table at Aurora, who was picking at her plate of food.Aurora glanced over at him and smiled. They had been going on dates for the past three months, getting to know one another. He was three years older than her and somewhat of a hostage in the Bardi Familia. It wasn’t a secret that Aleksandr had a thing for her. He made sure everyone knew she was untouchable.Pouting, she said, “Aleks, you know I’m not allowed to date.”He reached over the table and moved her plate to the side. Taking her hands in his, he looked into her beautiful hazel orbs saying, “And I want no one but you. I’ve spoken to your father already–”“But has he agreed? I also told you I’d consider it.”He raised a brow and squeezed her hand firmly, minding not to hurt her. “I know what we spoke about.”She smiled weakly with a shake of her head.“So tell me, what’s bothering you?”Aurora stared at him, and immediately her eyes
Ten years laterAurora stormed into the living room where fifteen-year-old Giovanni was lying on the floor eating popcorn. He looked over at his sister and saw that her eyes were red, her cheeks were swollen, and so was the skin under her eyes.He quickly sat up, asking, “Who should I kill?”She shoved her bag on the floor and walked up to him. She sat down in front of him. “Why don’t we look the same?”“What?”“Isabella said we don’t look like twins,” she said as she broke out in tears. She had been crying for so long already that her eyes were burning, but the tears just wouldn’t stop. Her heart was broken and if what they were saying was the truth–what was she going to do?He shook his head, annoyed. “Why do you still hang out with those idiots? All they do is bad mouth you when an opportunity arises and make you spend money.”“That is not the point!” She took out her phone and went to the gallery and showed a picture to him saying, “Giovanni, you look so much like daddy and I do t
Giovanni was sitting on the staircase watching his mother walk, or you could say waddle up and down the steps. Her stomach had grown over the months, but the relationship between his parents was dour. His father was home every day. He made sure to give them enough attention too but just wished things would go back to the way it was before he met his father but then again; he liked his father too.“You’re making me dizzy.”She stopped next to him and glared. “No one told you to watch me!”“I missed you,” he said.Daphnee chuckled, “You’re supposed to pay attention at school, not miss me.”Giovanni rolled his eyes. “Whatever mommy.”“Where’s your sister?” She asked. He groaned inwardly, “I left her in the playroom, she talks too much.”Daphne chuckled. She worried about him, especially the relationships between Giovanni and his father and him and his sister.Dante had told her he saw what happened that night and for about two months, his relationship with Aurora wasn’t good. They suspec
