The guard in front of me collapsed onto the floor with a loud groan.

My head snapped towards Louis, a harsh glare on my face.

I didn’t waste another breath on him as I turned towards the stairs in search of a certain man’s study.

“Freya, do not,” Louis warned from behind me, a hint of worry in his voice, but I did not fucking care.

“And now you suddenly care because?” I turned to him with a snarl. Louis looked startled at the rage in my eyes.

“Do not do anything stupid,” Louis said again, his hands in the air like he meant no harm.

My face scrunched up in pain. “All any of you have ever done was bully me, cripple me, abuse me verbally, abandon me, resent me, and point fingers at me when all I ever wanted from you all was a family. So why the fuck do you care if I do something stupid?” I screamed so loud I was certain most of the house could hear me.

I turned away from him and continued my search, every employee jumping out of the way at the sight of me. I had gone too far to stop now.

“Anna?” I repeat, confusion filling me.“She offered to help.” I nod mindlessly at Louis. One thing I’m certain of is that my phone is not anywhere in my room—neither is my purse.I let out a loud breath. If she had it this whole time, why didn’t she put it in my room like she offered to?After what occurred earlier today, I don’t want to be left alone with Anna in a room.I stomp back up the stairs and lay heavy knocks on Anna’s door. Rino's blank eyes remain on me. Without making me pay for it somehow?I stay tense and uncertain, my eyes blinking up at him with suspicion.“I don't go back on my word,” he mutters firmly, his eyes raking over my form one last time before he strides out of the room.I let out a loud sigh once he's gone.Rino's presence is overwhelmingly intense—it makes me anxious, like all he has to do is look deep enough and he’ll figure my entire life out.I turn to find Louis watching me. Dinner ends in no time, and after an hour, the Martinez family is set to leave. “Thank you for having us in your home,” Andrea says with a charming smile, her gaze lingering on Rino before her eyes shift toward me. “Of course,” Rino answers with a curt nod, while I offer her a small smile. All of us are standing on the steps, watching the Martinez family line up in front of their ride. The men whisper to each other with firm handshakes. My eyes move toward a still-sour Selene standing beside her brother as he moves to say his goodbyes to my husband. Our eyes meet—and stay locked for a while. I give a curt nod in her and her brother’s direction. Then the most surprising thing happens—Andrea suddenly turns, walks towards me, and pulls me into a hug. My back tenses and I grow stiff at the sudden embrace from a woman I barely know. She pulls back without a word, her eyes glittery, and then she tears them away from me and returns to the waiting arms of her husband. Micah is the first
