“Freya you have to tell him the truth.” Anna tells me, her face creasing in worry. “No, I can't, he'll kill me, he'll cut me to pieces, you know him.” I place my shaking hands on my trembling lips. “He wouldn't, he cares for you.” Anna hisses. “Same way he cared for his ex wife before he killed her, burned her to the ground in her own home.” I grit out. “Those are just rumors, it holds no ground to the truth.” Anna tries to convince me. “I can't stay Anna, I'm tired, I can't live like this anymore, I'm loosing my mind, pleaseee help me.” “But you can't just run away, he'll never forgive you, and when he finds you, you know he'll surely kill you then. Rino hates to be deceived.” Anna says frantically before lowering her voice to a whisper. “Especially not when you run away with his child.”
View More“Get her now.” one of the large men behind me roars heavily but I don't stop running, I can hear the erratic thumping of my heart in my ears. I hide behind a tree in the woods.
“Make sure you find the bitch, we cannot afford to lose her today.” Another deep voice says.
I look towards the bleeding in my stomach and hiss at the amount of blood I'm losing, and by the time I realize the bleeding must have left a trail behind me, my left ear rings loudly and I fall to the ground groaning.
“Fucking bitch, so the is where you were hiding.” The man says with a dark smirk. I crawl across the ground in a hurry and when he bends to reach for my shoulders, I land a heavy blow to his nose.
“You will pay for that.” The man screams, dragging me by my hair.
“Matteo, get your hands off her, boss wants her unscathed.” another well built man in a suit says calmly.
Matteo hisses angrily before roughly putting me over his shoulders and I begin to scream his ears off.
“Put me down you bastard.” I bang my fists into his back. “You’ve got the wrong person,I already called the cops, where are you taking me?” I get no answer in return from about all 10 of the men in suits. He throws me into a car and someone I didn't notice from behind me puts a clothe over my nose and I fall into dark nothingness.

I wake with a start in a dark room, I'm tied to a chair and my heart nearly halts from nerves, the air from my nose comes out in short breaths and I keep my mouth open to avoid passing out again. The only time I've ever been this scared was whenever I was near Rino, just thinking about him has my control over my own body and mind spiraling. I try to convince myself that maybe he's not the one who found me, I do not want to imagine what he would do to me, I begin to sob at the thought.
“Why are you crying?” my entire being stiffens. The door opens and the exact copy of Rino walks in. “No one has touched you yet and you are already crying.” The shadow's head tilts in genuine confusion. I gasp as he comes into my line of view and scans my face.
“It's been a really long time, Freya.” My brow's creases as to why he's the one here. “Obviously, not long enough Louis.” I croak out.
“Now, we have a lot to catch up on, don't we?” He gives me a small reserved smile, and if I didn't know better, he could pass for an old friend but I did know better.
“Fuck off.” I hiss at him despite my fear. “Ahh, there you are, the Freya I know, ever so stubborn.”
My hair gets pulled back harshly. “Now tell me. Where. Is. My. Brother's. Child?” I feign ignorance.
“I don't know what you are talking about.” I grit out.
“You don't?” The look he gives me unwinds me but I still ignore it.
“No, I don't.”
“Okay.” He merely shrugs, “how about I give you something to remember then.
The door opens and a man drags a woman by her hair into the room and across the floor.
“Do you know her?” Louis asks and I swallow loudly as I look over her features. Of course I know her, she was the nurse who helped me through my labor, I haven't seen her in years but I would never forget her face.
“She has nothing to do with this.” I plead.
“Really? because she claims to have helped give birth to a child you know nothing about.” I close my eyes and inhale deeply.
My eyes fly open at the click of the safety of a gun being unloced, my face scrunches in horror and by the time I begin screaming for him to stop, there's already a splatter of blood everywhere. My body freezes in shock, the metallic smell of blood fills my nostrils and stomach and I become very nauseous. The last time I saw so much blood would be during the birth of my baby.
“You fucked up bastard.” I try to yell but it comes out as a whisper.
The door to the room opens again and a man walks in with two other men behind him dragging a man into the room and throwing him onto the floor in front of me and my breath ceases.
“Do you still not know this man too?” I barely recognize him, his face is badly covered in cuts and blood but I would know that set of curly blonde hair anywhere.
He lays unmoving in front of me. “No, no, no, no, no, Oh God, please no.” I try to slide to the floor, try to hold him in my arms but the only thing I can do is rub my face against his bloodied one but it's not enough, I still can't feel his warmth.
I hear Louis chuckle darkly, probably satisfied by the amount of concern he could get out of me. “Now let's try this again.” He says pointing a gun to his head.
“Where. Is. My. Brother's. Child?”
I have never felt so cornered in a really long time. “No, no, no.” I scream trying to put myself in front of Lucas. “Kill me instead please.” I cry, I have never felt so desperate in years.
“Just tell the fucking truth, you traitor.” Louis let his expression show his rage for the first time since he stepped into this room. “Was it for him? Did you deceive and abandon my brother for a man?” I try to shake my head but fear of what might happen next engulfs me.
“And here I was, really hoping you might somehow, just maybe have a genuine reason for leaving.” He says before dragging Lucas from my feet and placing the gun beneath his neck and I scream historically.
“I’ll-I-I will t-talk, just L-let me talk t-to R-Rino, please.” I stuttered out in a rush unclearly but he seemed to understand because he threw Lucas towards the men and they took him out of the room. Louis looks at me for one last time in disgust before also walking out.
Rino's cool expression and cold eyes follow my movements as I try to hide how hesitant I am walking into the room.I finally let my eyes wander from Rino's to observe the room and some of the unfamiliar people in it.There are a total of nine people seated, all boring holes into my body, making my back stiffen.Rino, Louis, Anna, Micah, Mario, and four strange faces—an older man, a woman, a younger man, and a teenager who wears a permanent scowl.Rino rises to his feet. He curls his thick fingers around my waist and pulls me toward him. His other hand pulls out a chair beside him and gently guides me into it, placing a kiss on my cheek—a ghost of a smile on his face that makes my insides curl and tingle.Rino does not let go of my hand as he returns to his seat.I keep a tight smile on my face, knowing every eye is intently watching my every move.Anna looks guilty and upset. Her eyes look everywhere but in my direction. Micah takes a sip of her wine to hide her earlier whisper. “Took
I see it in his eyes, and I feel the fury he tries to bottle in flow out of his body in waves. Then something else flashes in his eyes—fear and protectiveness—as he runs his gaze over my body quickly to make sure I'm unhurt. Then they return to his usual cold demeanor before his head snaps in Anna's direction. She's glued herself to the wall, looking from him to me, flustered and afraid. Louis’s rage simmers a little at her expression before he speaks through gritted teeth.“Do you have any idea what could have happened if I didn't arrive when I did?” Louis asks, and Anna shrinks deeper into herself.“I-I d-didn’t do that on purpose,” Anna squeaks out, and my eyes narrow at her.I'm still too shocked to speak. The look in her eyes when she pushed me was sick, and I didn't do much just now to provoke an out-of-the-spur moment. It feels intentional, but I don’t want to think too deeply into it. She's hurting, and she thinks it's all because of me.I sigh shakily. “It’s alright. I'm alrig
Rino’s lips remain only a breath away from mine. He lifts his darkened eyes to mine like he’s searching through my soul.My body jerks at the hot, warm feel of his lips against mine. I inhale sharply when he suckles on my lips, my brain working overtime. His tongue darts out to swipe against the sensitive injury on my lip. My eyes widen even further at the act. Before I can process anything, Rino steps away from me, and I find myself breathing hard. My fingers lift to touch my lips.“W-what did you just do?” I breathe out.“Don’t do that to your lips.” Rino’s eyes continue to flicker from my lips to my eyes like he’s trying to rein himself in.He just suckled at the injury on my lips.He watches me like prey for a moment longer before dashing out of the kitchen. If I still couldn’t feel his hot lips on mine, I’d have thought I just imagined this moment.Rosa clearing her throat from the front door causes me to jump.“Help me out with setting the table, will you?” she says with a sly s
Mario left the mansion not too long ago, and the loneliness of this place threatens to swallow me whole.I decide to find as much information as I can about what happened here while I was away, and I start with Mrs. Willow. She wasn’t here when I left a few years ago, but she’s the only opening I have—I need to start somewhere at least.“Mrs. Willow,” I call out, peeking my head into the kitchen. A broad smile spreads across my face; I try to look as cool as I can possibly afford to in times like this.“Yes, Mrs. Garcia?” Mrs. Willow’s eyes widen in surprise at my presence.“Oh, what can I do for you?” she says hurriedly, and I refrain from cringing at her tone and discomfort from having me here.“I was hoping I could join you in preparing dinner.” Mrs. Willow looks even more startled than before.“Oh no, you don’t have to, Mrs. Garcia—you shouldn’t even be in here.” She flails her hands around nervously to make her point.“I insist. I’ve been bored out of my mind, and I need somethin
“What do you mean?” Mario asks.“A week after I returned here, someone called me to tell me that they knew about Alfredo,” I mumble out anxiously, my eyes going to him.“You also only knew about just Alfredo, didn't you?” I ask, and Mario nods distractedly at me.“When I was attacked, someone left me a handwritten message. It said my grandson was still alive. I wasn't certain—thought it was just some joke—but your reaction at the hospital confirmed it.” I let out a strangled breath at his words.“W-what if they sent something to Rino too?” I ask, holding my breath as I place my palm against my belly anxiously.Mario's eyes meet mine. “If my son even as much as suspected that his kids were alive, he would have combed through the earth to find them, Freya,” Mario tells me, his features twisting into one of discomfort.“It would be foolish of you to underestimate my son's ability to read people and pick a lie. He definitely knows you're hiding something—he just might not know what. And k
I took in a long breath, my eyes on the man in front of me, my shaking fingers gripping the bed tightly as I mutter, “Get out.” I force my eyes to slither daggers at the man in question.Rino raises an amused brow at me but otherwise remains quiet as he saunters out of the room like the predator he was and still is.I collapse onto my bed the second I'm alone, the back of my eyes burning with unshed tears and my heart racing at his words. His coldness should mean nothing to me, but I'm unable to ignore the ache in my heart, and the helpless way he makes me feel makes me hate him even more.~*~*~*~*I wake up the next morning with as much a heavy heart as the night before, and I decide that the only way I can save myself is to start looking for answers as soon as possible.I sit in front of the window, looking out at the most peaceful view as my head spins around, trying to make any of this make sense.I think back to all that has happened since I got here—the accusation of me motherin
