Emery

My eyes widened as I felt someone hovering over me. I turned in time to see the three guys slipping into the booth with us. Two slid in beside me.. and one beside Bridge. No hello.. no asking may we sit down… they just came over and pushed themselves in.

I immediately scooted all the way around to get closer to Bridge. We were stuck in the middle of the booth.

“Hi ladies..” one of them said. He looked like he should be on the back of a motorbike. All leather and long hair with an earring.

I’m all for motorcycles and danger. But this was girls night, and they were interrupting. I looked over at Bridge who didn’t seem to mind them being here. I think she was already three sheets to the wind.

“Um. Hi… thanks for the drinks guys but it’s girls night so .. if you don't mind.” I said, trying to get them to leave.

“Oh we just wanted to say hello we don’t want to bother you…” leather guy said.

“Hi. I’m Mark.” The guy closest to me said. He held out his hand for me to shake so I di

  • The Mafia’s Regret   Chapter 81

Elijah I heard the banging on my door and went to open it. Frankie and Oliver stood on the other side. “Why aren’t you using your key?” I asked them. We all had keys to each others apartments… what’s the use if they’re just gonna bang on my damn door. “I thought it would be fun to aggravate you first thing ..” Frankie said. I rolled my eyes. “Okay fucker - nuts. Are you two pieces of shit ready to go on an adventure?” I asked them. Oliver said “what?” at the exact time Frankie said “fuck no”. “Too bad .. we leave in 20.” I told them.. leaving no room for argument. “May I ask where exactly we’re going?” Frankie said. I grinned. “To see a guy about a ring.” Oliver hated flying. It’s one reason I didn’t tell them exactly where we were going before we left. I knew he’d throw a fit. It always amazes me though .. out of the three of us he probably packs the most muscle. After he was bullied and picked on when we were growing up he made it his mission in life to ‘get buff’ I gu

  • The Mafia’s Regret   Chapter 80

Elijah After everything that happened at Thanksgiving things had been a little off between Emery and I. I knew I’d upset her by talking to Caddy and hugging her and all that. And after our night at her parents house I tried to apologize to her .. but she didn’t want to talk about it right then. Which I understood. The business was super busy at the moment.. not only did we have a potential rat in our midst but we also had all the day to day stuff to deal with. And now since it’s nearly December we have end of the year paperwork. And that shit is insane. We have to do every single business separately that we own or have stock in or have people working in. And there’s so many of them it’s almost impossible to get it all done. We have to take inventory of every single thing that each business has. We go over logs of sales or income that’s come in from the entire year and see what needs to be improved or changed and then.. we have to prepare for the year ahead. And now the guys

  • The Mafia’s Regret   Chapter 79

Jasper I was still staring at her like she’d grown an extra head. On the one hand.. it wasn’t as if I’d never seen her this way. Happy and excited .. full of life. She was like that .. before. Although she was kind of quiet then.. after her dad died anyway. Before he passed .. this was her normal personality. But then something changed in her. I don’t know what it was. Maybe just getting older. What was it with these women doing 180s and changing everything on a whim?? The problem was it had been so long since I’d seen this side of Vivian I didn’t know if I could trust it or not. She’s done too much manipulating for me to trust her. Suddenly she made a face … like she smelled something awful. Then she got up and took off running to the closest bathroom. Her other luxury bathroom was in with her bedroom. Her fucking guest bathroom was nicer than my entire apartment that I kept on the side. When I’d told her I’d put her up in a nice apartment I wasn’t joking. And that’s exactly w

  • The Mafia’s Regret   Chapter 78

Jasper Work had been crazy so I was glad to have a little break over Thanksgiving. I didn’t like the fact that Emery wasn’t here celebrating with me .. but I still enjoyed a couple days off. No dealing with the business.. no paperwork or phone calls or going on runs … just some good food and fun. We, like most people in the business, hosted a dinner at my parents’ house. Several members of the gang came .. My dad has a personal chef and had him and some people that worked with him cook the entire dinner. Vivian had been out of the hospital for a couple weeks but I didn’t invite her … my dad would’ve knocked her ass out with a turkey leg if she’d walked in. But I felt bad that she had no one to spend the holiday with so I took her a plate of leftovers. So much for me staying away. She looked like shit when she opened the door. But her face lit up like a Christmas tree when she saw me. “Jasper?” She said. “Vivian.. can I come in?” I asked. Normally I’d barge in I mean I own t

  • The Mafia’s Regret   Chapter 77

Emery I paused. Telling the story was bringing back all the details. But I wasn’t looking forward to remembering the next part. Being here in my old house was jogging my memory to an extent too. I could see everything playing out in my head .. as if I were watching a movie. And as much as I love horror movies — I hated this one. “Take your time Emery…” Elijah said. I don’t know what to even think when it comes to him right now. I know he’d never hurt me on purpose. But that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t do it accidentally. He just did…. “You don’t have to do this …” Oliver said. “Yes. She does.” Frankie told him. And he was right. “I walked out there .. at first I wasn’t even afraid. I mean I was afraid my parents would wake up and find me not in my bed. I was scared they’d get mad at me but that was it. I ran .. trying to hurry. And I thought I knew where I fell but when I got out there .. I couldn’t remember. I just kept going further and further into the woods.” I said.

  • The Mafia’s Regret   Chapter 76

Elijah Emery was staring off into space as she was telling the story. I know she’d gone back to that night in her mind .. she was seeing things as they happened. I hated that she was doing this. But she acted like it was important for her to do so. But I doubt we’d be listening to the story right now if Frankie hadn’t asked her to tell him about her nightmares. I’m kind of pissed that he did that. But then again, that’s Frankie. He never shies away from any truth that needs to be told. But then again, maybe I’m to blame. She saw me with Caddy. Fucking hell. Caddy showing up back home threw me for a curve ball. I’d forgotten she’d be getting out of college soon. When Emery came back to us I couldn’t see anything but her. And I after that I hadn’t even thought of Caddy. Not that she had been on my mind much even before. After Emery left for college.. and pretty much walked out of our lives we all had a rough time. It hurt me and the guys something awful. Not only did we all love
