Chapter Six

Mirabelle’s POV

Luca took a step forward.

“Don’t.” Rafelo’s voice dropped, the gun digging harder into my skin.

But Luca didn’t stop.

The sound of the gunshot shattered the silence. My scream stuck in my throat as Luca twisted his body at the last second. The bullet grazed his arm, tearing into him. Blood splattered, and his men shouted in panic.

“Boss!”

They all raised their guns, but not one of them fired. They couldn’t. If they shot at Rafelo, I’d be the one caught in the crossfire and they Knew Luca wouldn't want them.

"Let go off me." I tried struggling with Luca.

"You are so hot when you get angry. I wonder if you'd react the same way if I fuck you so hard. You are meant for me, and I came here to take back what's mine."

Rafelo smirked, pressing me tighter against him. His confidence made me sick. He thought he had won. He thought I was just a shield.

He didn’t know about the knife.

My hand slipped behind me, fingers brushing the cold steel I had hidden under my clothes. My pulse pounded in my ears as I gripped it tight. I had only one chance.

I inhaled sharply and drove the blade backward with all the strength I had.

Rafelo roared in pain, his grip faltering as the knife sank into his side. I twisted, desperate, fighting with everything in me. He stumbled, trying to hold on, but Luca’s men charged forward. Chaos erupted.

Gunshots filled the compound again. Screams. Shouts. Bodies hitting the ground.

I didn’t wait to see what happened. I ran straight toward Luca. He was on one knee, clutching his arm, blood pouring through his fingers.

“Come on,” I hissed, grabbing him. He was heavy, but I forced his arm over my shoulder and dragged him toward the house. His weight almost pulled me down, but I didn’t stop until we were inside.

The door slammed shut behind us. I locked it immediately, my hands shaking.

Luca slumped against the wall, his shirt soaked in red. He was bleeding too much, his breathing uneven.

“Where—where is it?” I muttered, my eyes scanning the room. My chest tightened with panic until I spotted the small cabinet. I rushed over, yanked it open, and found a first aid kit.

My hands worked on instinct. Gauze. Bandages. Anything to stop the bleeding. I pressed the cloth against the wound, ignoring his hiss of pain. My fingers moved fast, wrapping the bandage as tightly as I could. Blood stained my hands, my clothes, but I kept going.

I didn’t even realize his eyes were on me until I looked up. He was watching me, his gaze locked, unreadable.

I swallowed hard, my thoughts dark for a moment. I could kill him right here. He was weak. Injured. Vulnerable. I could end everything.

I could run away..

But I wasn’t stupid. I wouldn’t survive if I tried. His brother was out there waiting for me to be claimed by him. Either way, they were both dangerous and any of them could get to claim my life anytime.

To them, I was just an object they could use and throw away anytime. I was more like a toy.

So I just kept my head down and did what needed to be done, even though part of me hated every second of it.

When I finally tied the bandage tight, Luca exhaled heavily. His body slumped forward, and I hurried to guide him toward the bed. He collapsed onto it with a groan, sweat dripping down his temples.

For a moment, I thought he’d pass out. But instead, his lips curled into a faint smirk.

“You look hot when you’re like this,” he murmured, his voice rough, strained but still carrying that edge of arrogance. "Who'd have imagined I'd see you panicking just because you want to save me?"

I froze, my brows furrowing. “How could you even think about that when you’re almost dying?”

Before I could move away, his hand shot out, gripping my wrist. He tugged me closer until I was half leaning over him, trapped in his gaze. His eyes darkened, studying me like he was seeing something only he understood.

His fingers lingered on my neck, tracing the line of blood slowly. Then his hand shifted, tightening ever so slightly around my throat. Not enough to choke me, but enough to remind me who was in control.

My breath hitched. My body froze, caught between fear and something I couldn’t name.

“Luca—” I whispered, my voice trembling.

His smirk deepened as he pulled me closer, his face so near that his breath brushed against my lips. His eyes burned into mine, dark and unreadable.

“Tell me, Mirabelle…” he murmured, his thumb pressing lightly against my pulse. “Do you hate me enough to kill me… or want me enough to keep me alive?”

The space between us shrank, his lips almost touching mine.

And my heart slam

med against my chest, unsure which answer would destroy me first.

Fuck him!

Chapter EightMirabelle’s POVSilence. A heavy silence. The words I had just spoken still lingered in the air, and my chest tightened as I waited for his reaction. What was my fate going to be after daring to ask that question?"He's my brother," Luca finally said, his tone calm, too calm. "He came to claim you back, like you heard. He already paid money to your aunt so he could have you." His lips curved, almost mocking. He reached lazily for the table, picked up a chip, and chewed as though we weren’t discussing my entire existence.I stared at him, my stomach twisting. "I’m a human. You don’t just buy people like that because you want to. Do you even realize how heartless that is?"His eyes glinted. "Oh, don’t get too sentimental here, darling. Everyone has their way of getting what they want. I told the auction team to contact your aunts, offered them money, and they put you on the stage. Simple." He shrugged, like it was nothing.Simple? My chest heaved fast, every breath rough from the way he had trapped me.Then I felt it. Warm blood trickling down my neck again. The bleeding had stopped earlier, but with the way he held me now, it had started all over.“You’re bleeding too,” he murmured, his eyes on my neck. “I thought you’d die the moment you were in my brother’s arms. I wonder what you did to him to make him act that way.” A crooked smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, making my stomach twist.“Please… let me go. I need to sto
