Chapter Two

Melissa’s pov:

As I sat in front of Salvatore Moretti, my heart raced and my palms began to sweat. I couldn't believe that the man I had mistaken for a guard just yesterday was the notorious mafia boss himself. I felt a lump forming in my throat and my mind raced with all sorts of thoughts. I was very scared of what was to come.

"What am I doing here? How did I get myself into this situation?" I thought to myself. I wish I didn’t take up this job.

Salvatore sat behind his desk, his piercing gaze locked onto me. He was calm and collected, his face void of any emotion. I couldn't help but feel intimidated by him, especially since I knew how much power he retained in this city.

"You are Melissa, right?" Salvatore spoke, his voice deep and bossy. I was sure he had asked Maria what my name was, this means I’m in big trouble.

I nodded nervously, too afraid to speak.

"You have been appointed as my personal maid," Salvatore continued. "I expect you to carry out your duties efficiently and effectively. If there is any negligence on your part, there will be consequences.” He sounded very cold.

I felt a shiver run down my spine as he spoke those words. I knew that I couldn't afford to mess up in this job. My mother's health depended on it and I can’t bear to see my mother suffer because of my stupidity.

"I understand," I managed to speak, my voice barely above a whisper.

Salvatore leaned forward, his gaze never leaving mine. "Good. Now I need you to prepare my office for a meeting with some important clients. Make sure everything is in order and that there is no sign of incompetence on your part."

I nodded, feeling the weight of his expectations settle heavily on my shoulders. He walked out of his office.

As I began to tidy up the office, I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in my stomach. Salvatore was cold and calculated, and there was a sense of danger that surrounded him.

I tried to focus on my tasks, but my mind kept wandering to the conversation I had just had with him. I knew that I had to do my job correctly, but I couldn't help but feel scared of what would happen if I made a mistake.

Just as I was finishing up, Salvatore walked into the room, his eyes scanning the office for any signs of incompetence. I held my breath, hoping that everything was in order.

He nodded his approval, but before I could apologize for any shortcomings yesterday, he shushed me and walked out of the room once again.

I sat there, feeling confused and scared. Salvatore was rude and powerful, but at the same time, there was a sense of mystery about him that made me want to know more.

As the days went by, I found myself getting used to my job as Salvatore's personal maid. I had gotten into a routine, and things were going smoothly. However, there was always a sense of unease that lingered at the back of my mind. I knew that I was working for a dangerous man, and I couldn't help but feel like I was walking on thin ice.

One day, as I was cleaning Salvatore's office, I came across a file that was left open on his desk. Out of curiosity, I began to read it, not realizing the danger I was putting myself in.

As I read through the file, my heart began to race. It contained information about some illegal activities that Salvatore was involved in. I knew that I shouldn't have been reading it, but I couldn't stop, it was so intriguing.

Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching the door, and before I could close the file up, Salvatore walked in, his eyes narrowing in anger as he saw me holding the file.

"What are you doing?" he growled, his voice low and menacing.

"I-I'm sorry," I stammered, feeling scared and ashamed. "I didn't mean to pry. I just saw the file open and I-"

Salvatore shushed me, his expression cold and unyielding. "You have no business reading my files. This is not something you should be involved in."

I felt tears welling up in my eyes, and I knew that I had messed up big time. I was terrified of what would happen next.

Salvatore stared at me for what felt like an eternity, his gaze softening slightly. I could tell that he was trying to reign in his anger.

After what seemed like an eternity, he picked up the file and walked out of the room without saying a word to me. I was left standing there, feeling ashamed and guilty.

As I made my way back to the kitchen, I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in my stomach. I knew that I had messed up, and I didn't know what the consequences would be.

When I got to the kitchen, I immediately went to Maria and told her that I didn't want to work as Salvatore's maid anymore. I explained that I was scared of him, and that I couldn't handle the pressure of working for such a dangerous man.

Maria listened patiently, her expression sympathetic. "I understand how you feel, Melissa," she said. "But unfortunately, we don't have anyone else who can take your place. You'll have to continue working for Salvatore."

I felt a sinking feeling in my chest as I realized that I was stuck in this job, whether I liked it or not. I knew that I had to be more careful from now on, and that I couldn't afford to make any more mistakes.

The days went by, and I continued to work as Salvatore's personal maid. Our interactions were minimal, and I tried my best to avoid him as much as possible. However, I couldn't shake off the feeling that he was always watching me, always aware of everything that I was doing.

The next morning, I went to Salvatore's room to drop off his laundry as usual. I knocked, but there was no answer, so I assumed he wasn't there. I pushed the door open and walked in, only to find Salvatore standing there, dressed in only a pair of boxers. My eyes widened in shock as I tried to avert my gaze, but it was too late. I had seen the huge scar on his chest.

"Get out!" Salvatore yelled, his voice echoing in the room. "What the hell are you doing in here?"

"I'm sorry, I thought you weren't here," I stammered, feeling embarrassed and ashamed.

"Get out!" he yelled again, and I quickly rushed out of the room, feeling my cheeks burn with embarrassment.

As I walked back to my room, I couldn't shake the image of Salvatore’s scar off my mind, it looked very huge and it seemed like it held a whole lot of stories and I was quick to notice his eyes when I gazed at the scar, they looked very vulnerable.
