KARINA POV "Chloe, We did it. We are mated," I whisper as I press the phone to my ear and peek around the hallway to make sure neither of the new omegas are close. I don't know why but I feel anxious almost fearful as I slowly make my way down the quiet hall. Calling my loved ones was the only thing I could think of to help my unease. "WHAT?! That's amazing," Chloe shrieks and I chuckle as a blush tints my face. I knew she would be happy for us. She is such a good support system. Not even my mom sounded as excited as Chloe does now."There was an incident here that made me realize I didn't want to wait," I say with a small smile and Chloe goes quiet."What happened," she asks, and I pause. The situation hasn't been handled yet and I don't know the protocol between packs. But this is Chloe. Her and Logan are our strongest allies. Surely Atticus wouldn't mind me telling her. I am just letting my anxious feeling make me second guess everything. "We were attacked by a group of
ATTICUS POV Our body twitches and flexes as we watch our mate board the train. How she convinced us to let her go is still baffling us. We gave the agent accompanying her strict orders but something could still happen to her. She is going to a place of conflict. Conflict in Outcast. We can't believe it. Every book we have read says Outcast has never had any issues. It's design has always served it's purpose well. But now they are having issues. Now that we are King it is having problems. Worst case scenarios begin to run through our mind. We begin to picture pain and blood covering Karina's face. Our vision blurs as a tornado of white-hot terror explodes inside our chest. "Atticus, I will be okay," Karina calls over her shoulder and we blink rapidly so we can focus on her face before nodding. She is rubbing her chest as she looks me over and we quickly realize she felt our fear once again. "We will see you when you return," we manage to say, and she nods before blowing us
KARINA POV "Thank you for coming Queen Karina and Luna Chloe my name is Gwen Davis. I am an elected committee member here in Outcast. We have been needing some assistance with our permanent tenants," the female committee member says as she shows us into her simple office. I nod as I take the chair on the left in front of her desk. "Nice to meet you, Gwen... Although we are happy to help I am not sure we have the authority," I reply cautiously and the female shapes her head quickly. She doesn't sit down like Chloe and I. She moves toward her large window and watches below. "Luna Chloe does not, but you do. You are the Queen. Although the group we are having problems with might not recognize you," Gwen says, and the knot in my stomach grows bigger. Something is definitely wrong. The energy and vibe she is giving off have my instincts on high alert. "Well, that doesn't sound promising," Chloe says and Gwen nods sadly. "We are hoping to obtain ideas. The sit
KARINA POV "Not much can be done," Chloe says softly after my thought escapes my mouth."I mean no one could have predicted this," she adds as I stay silently moving back and forth. I can feel their eyes on me, but I can't contain my stress. Atticus is just becoming comfortable with leading Pack Kincaid. He isn't ready to lead the World or deal with a people that have no wolves. He himself is a half-shifted wolf. These "humans" won't even know what to think of him. "Queen Karina, I am...," Gwen starts to say before a boom outside the window silences her. The glass panes shake as we all freeze and look toward the window. A large plume of black smoke about ten miles away becomes almost immediately visible. "What the world," Chloe whispers as Gwen's desk phone begins to ring. Gwen presses a big green button on the phone's console and screams from the other end of the line instantly fill the small office. "Gwen! Gwen! The rejected housing has been bombed with some kind of mas
ATTICUS POV Now that the council has left and W.O.l.F has been dissolved we can focus on getting some cells built and doing a bit of pack work until Karina gets home. We make it to our office and reach for the desk phone.Having a pack made up of mostly workers has come in handy as of late. Home improvements and new buildings have been steadily going up since we gave them the list of prioritized work we wanted to be done. With the additional donated food, fewer workers have to be in the field. After two rings the line picks up and we hear a gruff "hello.""This is Atticus. The council has ordered the murderer destroyed and for the rest of the attackers to be imprisoned. We need to place new prison cells at the top of the list," we relay quickly."Yes, King Atticus. With pleasure. I am happy that the matter has been handled. I will get the guys on it immediately," the voice says sounding much more enthusiastic than before."Thank you. I shall stop by tomorrow to look over the pla
KARINA POVAtticus- We are coming. Suddenly a bolt of pain shoots up my back left leg and Althea whines harshly before disappearing completely. My exposed flesh hits the ground hard and I cry out. I look myself over quickly to take in the damage and bite my bottom lip as I see my wounds. The skin on my hands and knees are torn from the rough pavement of the sidewalk and my shin has a silver-tipped arrow sticking out of it. Great! There are attackers. There aren't just bombs going off and to make matters worse they are equipped with lethal weapons. "We heard you were here," a harsh voice snaps and I look around quickly to find a group of seven people eyeing me with hate from just around 20 yards away. I pull my legs under me quickly and wince as my injured leg screams due to the movement. I place one arm over my breasts and stare them down as they approach me. Looking as intimidating as possible is probably what Atticus and Chloe would do. Even though I am as vulnerable as a pup
ATTICUS POV Running has never been more frustrating. Normally the wind in our hair is the most relaxing feeling in the world, but today we can't get our legs to move fast enough. Logan and the men are about a half mile behind us, but we haven't slowed down. Logan wasn't able to uphold his high speed, but we were. The Alphas and warriors that joined us fell in behind us without a single word. After another hour of pushing our body to the breaking point, we reach the smoking city built for peace. Scents of blood, fear, and silver instantly assault our nose. We come to a halt so that everyone can catch up and Logan shifts when he reaches our side. "I'm not too familiar with the layout, but I believe the committee building is that way," Logan states while pointing East.We nod before looking at the other Alphas still in wolf form. We know we can handle the enemy near our mate, but other wolves who live in Outcast are probably trapped in the bombed buildings. The majority of our force
ATTICUS POV "Return to your old packs or go to mine, Pack Kincaid. Go! Anyone who can move on their own! Go," we yell as another portion of the apartment building crumples. Too many wolves have stayed to assist in the evacuation. They can be injured. They should leave. We can handle this.A small group of maybe thirty bolts for the treeline half a mile from us and we refocus on the piece of wall we are holding up. We can still hear Logan's faint grunting as he pulls another wolf from the rubble, but he has been under for much longer than we thought he would be. For the past twenty minutes, we have pulled out several injured wolves from the rubble and none have taken him this long."Logan, what's the issue," we growl as our biceps bulge from the strain. "They are unconscious. I am trying to drag them out without hurting them further," he calls back and we growl in frustration. We look over our shoulder and spot a warrior pointing toward the treeline for some more wolves who don't
