The male lead I picked out, James Linden, doesn't love me anymore. He's broken away from the and has fallen in love with the secondary female lead, Yvette West. On the day of our wedding, he insists on making things official with her. "You've gone mad, James! We arranged your marriage to Mia with the Churchill family ages ago!" James' father, Jack Linden, yells angrily at him. He attempts to stop James, but the latter has already gotten carried away and is poised to escape alongside Yvette. I sigh as I listen to the system clamoring in my ears, informing me that the romance between the male and female leads has been ruined. "Then, let's just choose another male lead," I say tiredly, looking around until my gaze lands on a man with delicate features. "He'll do," I declare. James still thinks that as long as he breaks free from the main plot and loves Yvette boldly, he can turn her into the female lead. However, he doesn't know that I'm the one who decides who gets to be the male lead.

Chapter 1

I struggled to suppress my anger as I looked up at the man before me and asked accusingly, "Today's our wedding day! What on earth is wrong with you?"

Said man, the male lead, James Linden, turned to look at me with deep hatred in his eyes.

He believed that all the love he'd previously shown toward me was a result of my manipulations.

Now that he'd finally found his true love, he couldn't wait to escape my grasp.

I was deeply wounded by his glare.

All I'd done was choose him and let the system grant him all the privileges that came with being a male lead, yet he was using it as justification for having a change of heart.

Even the audience was growing angry at this situation.

Relatives from both families accused James of being so shameless as to try and elope under everyone's gaze.

"James, what does that scheming bitch have on our dear Mia?"

"We Churchills were truly blind to have found ourselves such terrible in-laws!"

My friends and relatives all spoke up on my behalf. They insisted that I shouldn't allow James and his new love to just leave.

Standing on stage, I simply felt physically and mentally exhausted. Here we went again.

Ever since meeting Yvette West, James had started acting like a lunatic and found fault in everything I did.

Even when I'd gifted him a new car, he'd exploded with rage and bellowed, "Look! You don't even know what I like!"

I'd been rooted to the spot, struggling to keep my smile from slipping.

Three years ago, we'd promised each other that I would buy him a new car for his birthday this year, after which we'd go on a road trip together.

Clearly, he'd forgotten about that promise.

I didn't reply, silently going along with his assumptions.

As I became increasingly quiet, he in turn started detesting my boring reactions more and more. In truth, there were many things left unsaid between us.

In the end, we arrived at our wedding day, and Yvette was barred from entering the hall.

She kicked up a fuss, kicking and screaming, which made both James' and my parents very displeased.

I silently watched the farce unfold, then glanced at James.

He cast an anxious look outside before abandoning me on stage and rushing off to defend Yvette.

In that instant, I saw the mockery and heard the badly suppressed laughter from many people in the crowd.

I'd assumed that so long as I stuck with the plot, James might return to my side once more.

However, seeing his burning determination to escape me even if it ended in our mutual destruction, I knew that our relationship could never be the same.

Unexpectedly, James pointed the metaphorical blade back toward me in order to salvage Yvette's reputation.

He asked accusingly, "You were all calling Yvie shameless, weren't you? Well, is Mia any better? When her touch hunger acts up, and she clings to me like a leech, she's certainly not the pure maiden you all make her out to be!"

My eyes widen instantly. I didn't expect James to outright expose my condition, and in front of this many people, too.
