Something is up. I know it. I haven’t been around Finn all my life, but I have been constantly at his side for several years now. I know him just as well as he knows me, and I can definitely see something fishy is going on. Just like right now. Finn and Owen are walking ahead of me towards the cafeteria, but they keep looking at each other and then back at me. I know they are mind linking with each other so I can’t hear, but why? Did something happen that I don’t know about? If not, and they were trying to be secret agents and spy on someone, they are failing miserably. Ugh… Why don’t they just tell me what is going on? I’m sure I can handle whatever it is.My thoughts are suddenly interrupted when the faint smell of burned eggs fills my nose. I tilt my head and take a deep breath. Yep. Burned eggs. What the heck?My wolf snorts and sticks her nose up in the air, while a look of disgust swirls in his eyes. Irritated, I ignore him.I hope the smell isn’t coming from som
I glance at my watch and then back to the classroom door. What is taking Owen so long? He usually doesn’t take this long to get back from having lunch with Finn and his friends. If he doesn’t hurry, he is going to be late and the professor will start our class without him. I take another look at the classroom door, and I suddenly breathe a sigh of relief. Owen rushes through the doorway and dashes to the seat beside me. With a slight frown, he tosses his bag on the table in front of him and plops down in the chair. He lets out a long sigh. “Wow. That was close.”As my mind wonders what took him so long, I nod. “Yeah. Almost too close.”He takes his things out of bag and with a ragged breath, he mumbles, “I wouldn’t have taken so long if Finn’s friend, Tommy, didn’t have us looking for some burned eggs. I still don’t have any clue why he kept smelling it, but he was worried someone left something on and it would catch fire. So, we were helping him try to locate where the s
My heart races as I bolt through the forest. The earth under my paws feels good. I really needed this. I can’t even remember the last time I’ve been able to let my wolf out and really run. The timber area around the university is so small, and I was always afraid someone would see me. I would only get enough courage to go out and run in my wolf form a few times. I dash around a tree and duck under a branch before I jump over some small rocks. The cool evening air brushes through my fur and nips at my nose. For the first time in months, my mind is blank and I’m at ease. I don’t have to worry about not letting my wolf out and run anymore. Plus, there is so much land to run around. No one is ever going to find us here. With no worries on my mind, I let myself go as I push my paws harder against the ground and catapult myself up the side of a hill. Ah. This is the best. This is exactly what I need to help clear my mind. My mind was spinning in multiple directions earlier.
Tommy POV I can’t sleep. For some strange reason, my wolf is restless and can’t stop pacing around in my mind. Ever since I smelled those silly burned eggs at lunch, he can’t seem to settle down. I don’t have any idea why, though. He isn’t talking to me, which is making me restless, too. A wave of panic washes over me as I softly ask, “What is wrong? Did something happen?” Just like the rest of the night, my only answer is silence. I roll onto my side and stare out the window. I’m sure it won’t be long before Owen comes into my room and carries me back into his bedroom. Tonight, though, I just want to be alone. Unfortunately, I know if I really want some sleep, my only option will be to sleep with Owen and Finn. Ugh… Why does my life have to be so complicated? I continue staring out the window as I take a shaky breath. My thoughts immediately go back to lunch time. The funny part about the annoying stench is that I hate the smell of burned eggs. One whiff and I
Wyatt POVI lean back on the couch and stare absent mindedly at the beer bottle in my hand, as I slowly swing it around in a circle. Am I doing the right thing? Will this really work?Kane walks out of the kitchen and heads for the couch with his own beer in his hand. “Baby. You need to stop worrying about it. I don’t even have to look into your mind. It is written all over your face that you are worried about whether or not you are doing the right thing for Tommy.”He sits down on the couch and turns towards me. “We have discussed this many times. Even the elders believe it is the best option. So, stop worrying.”I sigh and glance up at him. “What happens if Tommy accidentally runs into Jimmy before Tommy is truly ready to meet Jimmy? Will everyone think we have chosen the right path, then?”Still holding his beer, Kane slides a little closer to me and gently bumps my leg with his beer bottle. “Hey, we don’t know that those two will even bump into each other before we dee
It has been a couple weeks now, and I’ve given up trying to figure out where the stupid burned eggs smell is coming from. Oddly, I have noticed the nasty odor hangs in the air only around lunchtime or when Owen is around, but it is still a mystery as to why. I’m assuming he is coming into contact with something or someone who has the scent, but the weird thing is no one but me smells it. Since I’m the only one who smells it, I have decided to just let it go. If I’m truly meant to find out where it is coming from, I’m sure I will stumble across it someday. I glance around the cafeteria and take a shaky breath. This is the big day. I have been working up to this and know I can do it, but my nerves are still getting the best of me. The task for today is for me to make it through my lunch by myself. My friends will be close by, but they will be out of sight. But just knowing they aren’t too far away helps calm me down.My hand trembles slightly as I grab my spoon. I’ve already p
Tommy POV When Sun Moon pack found me nearly on my deathbed, it was one of those times I had to go to town. I can’t even remember now why I had to go, but I wasn’t that stealth in my moments. The pack members who spotted me weren’t going to wait until I was drug back to our pack to watch my punishment. No. They had decided they were going to hand out my punishment right then and there that day instead. A cold shiver runs down my spine. I don’t like remembering that day. Instead, I prefer to remember the day I woke up in the hospital and met the amazing people who are now my close family. I take a deep breath and, in a calm voice, I add, “You know I have to do this. This isn’t something we can ignore.” Wyatt slowly nods. “I know, but every time you talk about going to the city and doing something on your own, images of the day we found you keep flashing through my mind. I don’t even want to think of what would have happened if we didn’t get there on time. I want nothing
Ah. I need this. I dash around a bush and jump over a large boulder. The wind whips through my fur while the crisp night air nips at my face. I don’t know why, but lately, I can’t seem to get enough honey to eat. It seems to be the only thing, besides Owen and Finn’s touch, that can calm me down, but I still don’t really know why. The only thing I have been able to figure out is that someone Owen comes into contact with from time to time must have the sweet honey smell associated with them. However, for the life of me, I just don’t know why. Tonight, though, the smell was so strong when Owen came to work on some projects with me, I haven’t been able to get it out of my mind. I have tried to sleep for a couple of hours, and I couldn’t. I thought maybe a good run in the forest would help. Luckily, I was right. My mind and my wolf seem to calm down the longer I run through the forest. I don’t take time to take in the gorgeous view, though. My goal tonight is to clear my
