Roman

Over the last week of training, Ayla has alternated between excitement and frustration. She’s a quick learner, but my father was right. She wants to learn more quickly than she is and that causes her to be frustrated.

Each night, she falls into bed exhausted. Between the four hours a day of sparring training for Samara and another four to six hours of training for Ayla, my mate is exhausted. One night, after I’d gone over some pack business after sparring all day, I went up to our room and found her asleep in the tub. I’d finished bathing her then sat in the tub with her, letting the Epsom salts relieve my aching body as well. Each day, Ayla is getting stronger and it’s forcing Pierce and I to work harder to keep from getting pinned and to pin her.

My father has been great. It has been so many years since I’ve seen him have a purpose. He is once again acting like the man that he was when Alpha Royal and Luna Jessica were alive. I realize that it’s all because of Samara. I’m not s

  • The Mark of Betrayal   Chapter 53: Adjustment

SamaraAs exhausted as I was, I couldn’t fall asleep until Roman was curled around me. Then we’d both fallen into a deep sleep.I was awakened to my mate’s hands sliding over my hip, his hard length pressed against my back, and his lips on my neck, nibbling and kissing me awake.“Mmm, now this is my idea of how to wake someone up early,” I murmur, arching and pressing my backside against him.“It’s been nearly twelve hours since I’ve been inside you, my love. Time for me to rectify that,” he says, sliding his hand between my thighs and growling when he finds me soaking wet for him already.“Feels like I’m not the only one who is desperate for me to be inside you,” he says, biting my earlobe and sending waves of heat through my body as his fingers begin rubbing circles on my clit.“Roman,” I moan pressing my hips against his hand.“Are you going to come for me before I slide inside you, Samara?” he asks, his voice a deep, rumbling purr that I can feel vibrating against me, making my bo

  • The Mark of Betrayal   Chapter 52: The Pack

RomanAfter I tucked Sloane into her bed, kissing her forehead and telling her that she is loved and everything will be okay, hoping she hears me subconsciously, I went to find my father. When I got downstairs, I was glad to see that Althea’s body had already been removed, and the blood from her body was being washed away.I find my father talking to Sawyer’s Beta and Gamma. I walk up to them, feeling every eye in the room turn me.“Are we good?” I ask without any preamble. I have too much to do to placate ranked members’ feelings right now.“There is a lot of stress in the pack, Roman. But Beta Adam and Gamma Kyle understand that the betrayal that happened to the Brenners could not be allowed,” my father says. I watch the two men and I can tell that they are not going to fight the takeover.“We came from Alpha Royal’s pack, Alpha. To find out that our Luna and her chosen mate were responsible for the attack on our previous Alpha family has been devastating to all of us,’ Beta Adam say

  • The Mark of Betrayal   Chapter 51: Telling the Pups

SamaraI’m dreading talking to Sloane and Slade. Slade is too young to understand, but I feel like Sloane already knew what was coming.Roman knocks on the door before we step inside. Sloane is sitting on the floor with Aria in one arm and Slade beside her. She’s got her other arm wrapped around him while they cry.“Are you going to kill us too?” she asks.“No, sweetheart,” I say, dropping to the floor to make myself less intimidating. Roman crouches down beside me, watching them.“Why? Why did you kill them?” Sloane asks, her voice quivering.“She and your father betrayed our family and our pack. I’m so sorry sweetheart. She betrayed her wolf, Gillian, too. Gillian begged me to end her life, to let her find her fated mate, the one your mother rejected,” I say as her tears come faster. I'm unwilling to tell her that her mother killed her fated mate.Aria begins sliding out of her arms and I reach out to catch her but Sloane snatches her away.“I’m not going to hurt you, Slade, or Aria.

  • The Mark of Betrayal   Chapter 50: Unanswered Questions

Roman‘We need to shower, then we have to talk to the pups. What’s the situation with the warriors here?’ I ask my father in the mind link.‘There was resistance, but everyone heard what Gillian said. No one can deny that Althea betrayed her wolf, her family, and her pack.’As I hold my crying mate, I look around the pack. She’s not the only one crying. However, I think most of these people are crying because of the betrayal that they just heard about, not because their Alpha and Luna are dead.‘Can you clean this up? I’m not willing to give Sawyer and Althea a warrior’s burial, but I don’t want to leave them to be eaten by animals either,’ I say.‘We’ll bury them. I’ll get some warriors to dig their graves. The pups may want some place to go visit their parents someday. I’ll make sure we mark the graves,’ he says.‘Thank you. Can you also make sure the pack doesn’t shut down? Once we talk to Sloane and Slade, I’ll come down and address the pack.’‘I’ll call your mother and have her co

  • The Mark of Betrayal   Chapter 49: Gillian

SamaraI feel paralyzed. Althea helped to kill our family. She not only knew about it, she was part of it.The moment Roman and Sawyer leap at each other, I can hear the chaos of the pack as Roman’s warriors begin attacking. I don’t want any of our warriors or any more of my family’s warriors to be killed because of Sawyer and Althea’s treachery, but Pierce is somehow managing to keep himself between me and Sawyer while they fight in the small space, so I can't leave to see if they are destroying my family's pack or just restraining them. When I finally get a glimpse of the room around Pierce’s large body, I see that Althea is gone.I turn, focusing on Roman and Sawyer. I know Roman is strong enough to kill Sawyer, but being in this small space and trying to protect me while fighting is hindering him. When I hear more wolves enter the room, I leap from behind Roman toward the door.“STAND DOWN!” I say, putting the full force of Ayla’s command behind it. These wolves are part of Sawyer’

  • The Mark of Betrayal   Chapter 48: Second Betrayal

RomanI knew Sawyer would begin pegging me with questions the moment we were alone. There was no way for me to force his pups to stay with us after Samara left and they went to find their friends. Rather than fight it, I pulled on Pierce’s strength to stay calm and I followed Sawyer to his office. He, like always, sits behind his desk like he’s the fucking king of the pack. It always sat wrong with me before. I’m his friend, his ‘brother’. But he always put the distance of the desk between us when I came to visit. Always. I don’t even do that with my pack members when they come to talk to me. I always sit beside them, making them feel comfortable. Now I know why he does it. And he should keep his distance. He is right to fear me. He must have known that if I ever found out what he did, I would kill him for it.“So, now that it’s just the two of us, tell me, what did she see?” he asks.I shrug, sitting back. “Thankfully she only heard her mother die, but that was enough. She saw her blo
