I froze.

Zoey was on my lap.

I felt her soft body before I fully registered what had happened. Her warmth pressed against me, and the weight of her body settled in like she belonged there. My grip on the armrests tightened, and my knuckles turned white as I fought the instinct to grab her and to pull her closer.

Instead, I forced my voice to stay calm. “Get off.” But do my disappointment, my voice came out raspy and breathless.

She slightly tilted her head, and a mischievous smirk slowly made its way to her lips. “What’s wrong, Alpha?” she mused, and her tone was filled with amusement. “Are you scared?”

Scared? No. I was far from scared, but I was so close to losing control.

I clenched my jaw, and tried to act unaffected, but it was pointless. Zoey was toying with me, and she knew exactly what she was doing. Everything about her, the way she moved, the confidence in her eyes, and the way she slightly lifted her chin told me she had the upper hand, and I hate
