CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTEEN

GRAHAM

The pack house felt too big when Zoey wasn’t by my side.

She hadn’t been herself since yesterday. Breakfast ended with me barking at the maids for serving her soup that smelled too strong. Then, during our walk, I’d shouted at children who were only laughing and running. I thought I was protecting her. But when I looked at her face, all I saw was irritation, hurt, even.

She’d slipped away not long after. First to Hannah’s room, then to the gardens, and then she disappeared into our quarters early, long before the evening meal. She didn’t shut me out completely—she still smiled when she passed me in the hall, still pressed a small kiss to my cheek when others were around. But the warmth, the easy closeness we always had… it was dimmed.

And it was my fault.

I sat in my office, staring at papers I couldn’t focus on. Reports of patrols, maps of the borders, lists of supplies. None of it mattered right now. All I could think about was the way Zoey h

CHAPTER TWENTY HUNDRED AND THIRTEENZOEYThe morning light filtered through the curtains, painting soft stripes across the floor. For once, I hadn’t woken up to nausea or Graham pacing the room like a restless wolf. Instead, there was quiet and calm. When I opened my eyes, Graham was already awake, lying on his side and watching me. His hand rested protectively on my stomach, even though it was still flat.I raised an eyebrow. “You’re staring.”“I’m memorizing,” he said simply.I laughed, rolling my eyes. “Memorizing what? My drool marks on the pillow?”“No,” he said, his voice dropping to that soft rumble that always made my chest ache. “You. Like this. Peaceful.”The warmth that spread through me was immediate and a little overwhelming. I reached up and brushed a strand of hair from his forehead. “You’re going to make me cry first thing in the morning.”“That’s not my intention,” he said, leaning closer. “My intention is to keep you smiling.”He kissed me, slow and sweet, the kind o

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWELVEZOEYI barely made it through the walk without snapping at him in front of the whole pack. Graham meant well, I knew he did, but it was too much.Too many barking orders at the maids about how I should eat. Too much glaring at children like they were enemy soldiers. Too much hovering as if one wrong step would shatter me into pieces.By the time we returned to the pack house, my nerves were burning. I excused myself quickly, before my tongue betrayed me in front of everyone.I headed straight to Hannah’s room. She was at her desk, grinding herbs with a small stone bowl, when I walked in. She glanced up once, then twice, realizing I wasn’t my usual self.“You look like you’re about to set something on fire,” she said, setting the pestle down.I threw myself onto her bed with a groan. “I might. Maybe Graham’s hair.”Her eyebrows shot up. “What did he do now?”“He’s impossible!” I sat up, pulling at my braid with both hands. “This morning he yelled at the m

CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND ELEVENGRAHAMBreakfast should have been simple. Bread, fruit, eggs. The same thing we had every morning but nothing felt simple anymore, not since Zoey told me about the baby.I sat at the table with her, watching the maids set the food down. My eyes went straight to the roasted meat. Too oily. Too heavy.“Take that away,” I snapped before Zoey could even touch her fork. The maid froze. “Alpha?”“You heard me. She’s not eating that.”Zoey frowned at me. “Graham, it’s just meat.”“It’s greasy,” I argued. “You don’t need it. Bring her some boiled chicken instead and cut it into small pieces.”The maid bowed quickly and scurried off.Zoey’s fork clattered against her plate. “I can cut my own food, you know.”“I don’t want you struggling,” I said firmly, pouring her water myself. “From now on, I’ll handle your meals. No more mistakes from the kitchen.”Her eyes narrowed. “Mistakes?”“Yes.” I pointed at the bread. “That’s too dry. She needs softer bread. And more f

CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND TENGRAHAMSleep didn’t come easy that night.Zoey was curled up beside me, her breathing soft and steady, but I knew she wasn’t fully asleep either. Every so often, her body shifted, restless, and I’d feel the faint squeeze of her hand against mine before she stilled again.Pregnant.The word still felt new in my head, like something too fragile to say out loud. I hadn’t told anyone, not Ronald, not Hannah, not even Viktor. It wasn’t my secret to share. But it was all I could think about. There was a child growing inside her. My child. The thought filled me with awe and fear in equal measure.I stared up at the ceiling, my arm draped carefully around her waist, feeling the faint rise and fall of her breathing. I was supposed to be the Alpha, the one everyone looked to for strength. But right then, I felt more vulnerable than I had in years.I wasn’t just protecting my mate anymore. I was protecting my family. My chest tightened at the word. Family.I closed my

CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND NINE ZOEYThe fires outside were burning low when Lily tugged at my arm.“Come with me,” she said. Her voice was soft but insistent, the kind of tone that didn’t leave room for excuses. We slipped away from the courtyard, leaving the music and laughter behind. The night air was cool on my skin, the stars shining like scattered diamonds above us. Viktor was still talking with Graham and the elders, so for once, Lily was free. She led me to one of the smaller gardens tucked between the pack houses. It was quiet there, only the sound of crickets filling the air. A bench sat beneath a tree heavy with blossoms, and we sat down side by side. For a moment, neither of us spoke. We just listened to the world being peaceful. Then Lily nudged me with her shoulder. “You’ve been glowing.”I blinked at her. “Glowing?”“Yes. Don’t argue.” She leaned back on the bench, studying me with narrowed eyes. “You’ve been smiling more. And even when you don’t smile, there’s something
