CHAPTER SIXTY NINE

ZOEY

“He’s crazy!” I stormed off the moment training ended, and my chest heaved with frustration. My body ached from all the hits I took, but none of that could ever compare to the anger that was boiling inside me. I wiped sweat from my forehead and kept walking, my mind spinning. I needed to be as far away from him as possible in order to clear my head.

Graham had ignored me the entire time, except when he was barking orders or knocking me to the ground like I was a sack of dirt. It was like last night had never happened. Like I had never happened. “He’s lost his mind. He thinks he can get me worked up.” I muttered to myself, feeling my frustration and anger rise.

One second, he was kissing me like he needed me. The next, I was back to being nothing. Just a vampire and an annoying inconvenience that he couldn’t get rid of.

My fists were clenched so rightly as I reached the far side of the training grounds, where no one else was around. I sat down on a rock, my brea

CHAPTER SEVENTYZOEYA sharp knock on my door made me quickly sit up and adjust myself.“Zoey? It’s me,” Lily’s voice came through.I sighed out in relief, rubbed my face before I stood up. When I opened the door, she stepped inside, and her curious eyes immediately scanned my face like she was searching for something.“You look like you didn’t sleep,” she said, and a deep frown made its way to her face. “What’s wrong?”I hesitated for a moment. A part of me didn’t want to talk about it, but the other part, the part that felt like I was going to explode if I kept it in, finally won.“I kissed Graham.” I said it straight up because I knew that if I went through the corners, I’d end up not saying it. Now that I had said it out loud. I couldn’t take it back.Lily’s eyes widened. “Wait. What?”I crossed my arms, acting like her question annoyed me. “You heard me.” I said firmly.A mischievous grin slowly spread across her face. “You and Graham kissed?”I rolled my eyes and walked towards

CHAPTER SEVENTY ONEGRAHAMI forced myself to focus on the reports in front of me, but my mind kept straying away from the priority at hand. No matter how much I tried to push it away, she kept coming back in. Frankie’s words still haunted me, and it kept echoing in my head like a harsh reminder of what I already knew.“I don’t want anything to do with you.” She had said it so coldly without eleven giving it a second thought.I clenched my jaw and stared at the papers harder, as if just my willpower could make the words and figures make sense. But the words blurred together, and frustration boiled inside me.A sharp knock broke through my thoughts, and I was grateful for it. At least, I’d stop pretending like I was working.“Come in,” I said, already knowing who it was.Ronald stepped inside, he had his usual serious expression on his face that told me he had a lot to say. He shut the door behind him and crossed his arms. “Are you busy?”I gestured at the paperwork on my desk. “What d

Specifically the kiss and when I met him, no, when Frankie met him in the woods. The moment Graham realized who his mate was and the way he looked at me like I was a stranger afterward. It was frustrating. I couldn’t deny it.I walked through the pack grounds, keeping my pace slow even though I wanted to storm around like a madwoman. It wasn’t like I had anywhere specific to go, I just needed to move, maybe if I walked long enough, I could shake off this weird feeling that was sitting in my chest and making me feel uneasy. The cool breeze brushed against my skin, but it didn’t do much to clear my head. The problem wasn’t that Graham was ignoring me because to be honest, I had expected it. The problem was that it was actually bothering me.I didn’t want to care, but I did, and I hated it.Lily was wrong. This wasn’t ab

CHAPTER SEVENTY THREEZOEYThe sun was warm against my skin as I strolled beside Hannah. The pack grounds were lively, and pack members were moving around, engaged in their usual routines, but I barely paid attention.Hannah and I were deep in conversation, laughing about something silly that Ronald had done earlier. It felt nice and normal. A rare moment where I wasn’t overthinking about everything happening with Graham. But, of course, peace never lasted long.As we walked past a group of pack members, I heard their quiet whispers. I didn't mean to hear the gossip, but it reached my ears even without my permission. “She’s so desperate. Throwing herself at the Alpha like a common whore.” One of them said,“I heard she’s been sneaking into his quarters at night.” The other chimed in.“She’ll spread her legs for him and anyone else if it means getting a place in the pack.”I stiffened mid step and Hannah did too. We both heard it.At first, I told myself to ignore it because wolves lo

CHAPTER SEVENTY FOURGRAHAMThe office door slammed open so hard that it made the walls tremble, but I didn’t flinch. I didn’t need to look up to know who it was. There was only one person who could storm into my office in that manner, whenever he liked. It was Ronald. His footsteps were loud and I could tell he was furious as he marched straight to my desk. Even without looking up at him, I could feel the anger radiating off him like a storm about to explode. I stayed where I was, with my pen in hand, and pretended to be engrossed in the document in front of me. Ronald was rarely angry so it made me wonder what got him so upset. Though I already had a hunch.“What do you want?” I asked, keeping my voice calm, and controlled.Ronald let out a dry, humorless laugh. “What do I want?” he repeated, his voice filled with disbelief. “Are you seriously asking me that right now?”I didn’t respond. Of course I was asking. Why did I need to repeat myself? He pulled a chair back, and the legs s

CHAPTER SEVENTY FIVEZOEYRonald came back fuming and that was the angriest I had ever seen him. I stood immediately and rushed to him. “What happened?”“Graham is a heartless bastard, that’s what happened,” he snapped, and I instantly realized that things didn’t go as planned.Hannah raised her eyebrow and said mockingly. “Tell us something we don’t know.” She said and I resisted the urge to laugh.Ronald paced back and forth, then he ran a hand through his hair in frustration before he sighed loudly. “I told him about the rumors, and he just sat there like it didn’t matter. He didn’t even blink. He just sat there like it was beneath him to care.” He turned to me, his face still filled with frustration and disappointment. “I don’t know how you deal with him, Zoey.”I didn’t answer because the truth was that even if I acted like I didn’t care about the rumors, it did bother me.But what made me so upset was the fact that he didn’t do anything to stop the rumors or even defend me. CHAPTER SEVENTY SIXGRAHAMI froze.Zoey was on my lap.I felt her soft body before I fully registered what had happened. Her warmth pressed against me, and the weight of her body settled in like she belonged there. My grip on the armrests tightened, and my knuckles turned white as I fought the instinct to grab her and to pull her closer.Instead, I forced my voice to stay calm. “Get off.” But do my disappointment, my voice came out raspy and breathless. She slightly tilted her head, and a mischievous smirk slowly made its way to her lips. “What’s wrong, Alpha?” she mused, and her tone was filled with amusement. “Are you scared?”Scared? No. I was far from scared, but I was so close to losing control.I clenched my jaw, and tried to act unaffected, but it was pointless. Zoey was toying with me, and she knew exactly what she was doing. CHAPTER SEVENTY SEVENGRAHAMZoey’s words echoed in my head long after she walked out of my office. “If you want a kiss, stop the rumors.”I should have been angry and annoyed, unbothered even. But instead, I was sitting there, still gripping the armrests, and staring at the door like she’d walk back in. I felt like a damn fool. She had completely thrown me off my game. No one ever had that kind of power over me. I sighed deeply, and forced myself to snap out of it. Enough of this.I was not some weak-willed man who let a woman dictate his actions. But yet, as I pushed up to my feet and walked out of my office, I already knew what I was about to do.I wasn’t doing it for her.And I definitely wasn’t doing it for a kiss that she promised to give me wherever and however I wanted. Definitely not.I was doing it because I was Alpha, and letting my own pack spread disrespectful rumors about someone under my rule, whether I liked her or not, was a sign of weakness and I was not weak. Not no

ZOEYI slammed the door shut behind me and threw myself onto the bed like I was trying to merge with the mattress. “Ughhh.”“What happened now?” Hannah asked from the couch, where she was lying upside down with her feet over the backrest and a face mask half-sliding off her chin.Lily didn’t even look up from her book. “Let me guess. The Alpha glared at you again and now you’re spiraling.”“No.” I turned my head dramatically to the side. “He asked me to dinner.”That was more than enough to grab their attention. Hannah sat up so fast that her face mask flung onto the carpet. “You’re kidding.”Lily blinked once. Slowly as she observed me carefully. “You’re not kidding.”“He said it’s just a casual dinner,” I grumbled. “Like, ‘friendly dinner, just to talk’ kind of thing. I don’t even know what that means. Since when does Graham talk to anyone? Let alone invite them to dinner.”“You’re dating the Alpha,” Hannah declared, eyes wide with delight. “It’s happening. I knew it. I felt it in m

GRAHAMI’d been standing there longer than I wanted to admit, arms folded, watching her move across the training field like she owned it. My pack members thought I was watching them train and so, they tried to impress me, but my eyes weren’t on them. Heck, my mind wasn’t even near them. It was on Zoey. I watched her train and every strike she threw was deliberate, sharp. Focused. She didn’t hold back, not with the random girl she was sparring with, and definitely not with herself. She was giving it her all. Not like a wolf less werewolf. Moments like this made me wonder if she was truly what she claimed to be.I don’t know what it was about her. Maybe the fire. Maybe the fact that she never once tried to impress anyone maybe even that I could feel my wolf stir every time she stepped into view. Or maybe it was just guilt. She wasn’t my mate, that was certain. But what if I didn’t have a mate? What if the moon godddess was giving me the privilege to be with who I wanted to be, and not

GRAHAMShe told me to let her go.The words echoed through my mind like a broken record that I couldn’t fix. I stood in the empty space long after she had disappeared, the scent of her still lingering in the air and mocking me with everything I couldn’t have.Let her go?How the hell was I supposed to do that?I walked back to the packhouse in silence, not even noticing the people who passed me or the curious glances that they threw my way. I went straight to my room and locked the door behind me. The walls felt too tight, and the air felt too still. My wolf paced restlessly inside me, growling low and angry, but I couldn’t calm him. I couldn’t even calm myself.I dropped onto the edge of the bed and ran both hands through my hair in frustration and gripped it like it would bring me some kind of restraint or peace. My chest burned. My mind screamed and all I could see were her eyes, Frankie’s glowing and calm eyes as she shattered every piece of me.“It was a mistake.”She said that a

ZOEYI stormed out of the woods and into my room and I could feel my heart racing, and I clenched my fists so tightly that it felt numb. I didn’t care how calm Frankie looked or acted, all I knew was that I was done being quiet.“You had no right!” I yelled, feeling my anger boil underneath my skin. “You told him to let me go! Why would you do that? Are you okay?”I could feel Frankie standing straight, instead of backing down and explaining things to me. It felt like I was staring straight at her and she was openly challenging me. Her glowing eyes were calm, like always and it infuriated the shit out of me. “He needed to hear it.”“No, he didn’t,” I snapped. “He needed me, he needed us. And what did you do in return? you broke his heart and made me seem like the bad person. Like there’s something wrong with me!”“He was already breaking,” she said quietly. “Don’t put all the blame on me!”I paced around the room, trembling with anger. “I felt it. I felt his pain, Frankie. His anger.

  • The Mate She Can’t See   Shouldn’t have kissed her

GRAHAMThe fire in the fireplace had burned low, leaving the office in a soft atmosphere. I leaned back in my chair, fingers under my chin, staring at the dying fire. The taste of Zoey still lingered on my lips—sweet, warm, intoxicating. I shouldn’t have kissed her. No. That wasn’t the problem. The problem was that I wanted to do it again. A growl tore from my throat, raw and frustrated. My wolf snarled in my chest, restless, torn between two instincts—one that howled for my mate, Frankie, and another that burned for Zoey’s fire, her defiance, the way she looked at me like I was both the storm and the shelter. This is wrong. But it didn’t feel wrong. And that terrified me. I squeezed my eyes shut, dragging a hand down my face. The bond between mates was sacred. Unbreakable. So why did my pulse race for someone else? Why did my blood heat at the memory of Zoey’s fingers tangled in my shirt, pulling me closer like she never wanted to let go? A whisper of presence brush

  • The Mate She Can’t See   Think I’m lying?

GRAHAMThe Pack House was in its usual state of controlled chaos when we arrived. Warriors lounged in the common area, some sparring, others nursing drinks. A few pups darted between legs, yipping excitedly, while the elders watched from their usual spots near the fireplace, shaking their heads at the younger generation’s antics. And then there was Roland. Leaning against the doorway like he’d been waiting for us (which, knowing him, he had), my Beta raised a brow as Zoey stepped inside behind me. His gaze flicked to the bruise on her temple, the hospital bracelet still stubbornly clinging to her wrist. “Zoey,” he said, voice carefully neutral. “You okay?” Zoey’s eyes narrowed. “Oh, now you care?” Roland blinked. “What?” “Don’t play dumb,” she snapped, jabbing a finger at him. “You snitched.” I crossed my arms, watching the exchange with mild amusement. Roland had always been terrible at lying under pressure. “I didn’t—” “You told him,” Zoey accused, jerking a thumb

GRAHAMThe scent of pine and wildflowers still clung to the air inside my Jeep, even after she’d vanished into the trees. Frankie. My mate. My wolf had been restless for weeks, aching for even a glimpse of her, and today—today she’d been *close.* Not close enough to touch, not close enough to speak to, but close enough that my lungs burned with the memory of her. I exhaled, leaning back against the seat, my fingers tapping against the leather seat. The pack warriors were spread out nearby, waiting for my signal to move. But for now, I just wanted to savor this—the quiet, the lingering trace of her, the way my pulse had finally slowed for the first time in months. Then— Knock. Knock. Knock. I turned my head, and my breath caught. Zoey. Her hair was piled messily on top of her head, loose strands framing her face. A hospital bracelet dangled from her wrist, and there was a faint bruise blooming along her temple. She looked exhausted. She looked alive.I rolled down the window

ZOEYI stepped out of the café, the door swinging shut behind me with a satisfying click. The air outside was crisp, fresh—unlike the suffocating, latte-scented tension I’d just left behind. Charlie’s words still prickled under my skin, but for once, I didn’t care. I’d won that round. Hannah and Lily were waiting for me across the street, their faces etched with a mixture of curiosity and nervousness. Why were they nervous? Hannah waved enthusiastically, nearly smacking a passerby in the face. Classic. Time to go back to the pack, I thought, grinning. Back to Graham—BAM. Something hit me. Hard. One second, I was mid-step, feeling victorious. The next, the world spun, tilted, and then— Black.--- Beep. Beep. Beep.My eyelids felt like they’d been glued shut. I groaned, trying to lift my arm, but something tugged at my hand. What the—? I forced my eyes open, blinking against the blinding white light. Sterile walls. A weird plastic tube sticking out of my arm. A machine b

**GRAHAM**He nodded sagely. "Yep. Left a while ago." My grip on the pen tightened. "And where, exactly, did they go?" Rowand shrugged. "Human world, apparently. Something about Hannah’s friend having a baby." The pen snapped in my hand. Ink splattered across the desk. Rowand blinked. "Uh. You good?" I stood up so fast my chair nearly toppled over. "They what?" Rowand leaned back, holding his hands up. "Hey, don’t shoot the messenger! I just thought you’d want to know—" "Who let them leave?" My voice was dangerously low. Rowand swallowed. "Uh. Ronald?" I stormed out of the office, Rowand scrambling after me. "Graham, wait—" I didn’t wait. The packhouse was bustling as usual—warriors chatting, kids running around, the usual chaos. But right now, all I could focus on was the fact that my mate—well, technically my mate’s human form, who I was still trying to figure out how to handle—had waltzed into the human world without so much as a by your leave.
