Chapter 2

Autor: Sweetie Moore
I turned my back on my mentor's high expectations and abandoned my research in architectural history. I cut back on spending time with my family and friends, throwing myself entirely into her career and personal life.

For those eight years, she was my entire world. Yet, as soon as the company turned a profit and expanded, she dumped most of the high-pressure workload onto my shoulders.

Why? So she could free up her own schedule to fly overseas and meet up with her first love, David.

She always assumed I had no idea. But every time they met overseas, David made sure to message me intimate photos of the two of them.

[Phoebe and I can be together out in the open, while she keeps you hidden away in secret back home. It's crystal clear who the real outsider is.]

[She bought me a suit in the business style I love, matching her outfit to mine. Would she ever do that for you?]

Phoebe had never been willing to take photos with me or ever picked out a gift based on my tastes. My closet was packed with nothing but work-appropriate suits.

I had always thought she was simply hyper-focused on overseeing and managing the company. I never realized that everything I received was just whatever David didn't want.

After every one of their dates, David would post a love letter on social media.

[You are the miracle in my mundane life, my one true home in this vast crowd.]

[Meeting you again made me believe in forever.]

[Reunited once more. You're like the brightest star, illuminating my long, dark night.]

And every single photo featured his favorite dish: steak with red wine sauce.

His friends always assumed David and Phoebe were just in a long-distance relationship, flooding his comments with congratulations.

I let out a bitter, self-deprecating laugh as my vision blurred with tears. If someone doesn't love you, no amount of effort will ever change that.

The doctor's voice spoke up beside me, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Mr. Robertson, can we begin the procedure now?"

I let out a long sigh, wiped away the tear lingering at the corner of my eye, blocked Phoebe's number, and shut off my phone.

"I'm ready. Let's start."

'Phoebe, your scene in the story of my life has officially ended.

'From this moment on, there is no us.'

When I opened my eyes again, three days had passed, and I found myself in a hospital room.

After the nurse informed me that the hypnosis procedure was a success, I was left completely shaken. I stared at my signature on the consent form for a long time.

Just how badly had I been hurt to give up eight years of my memories for no apparent reason?

As time ticked away, I had no choice but to accept this new reality. Leaving the hospital, I went straight to the address that popped into my head.

The moment I stepped inside, the place was a complete mess. A woman's clothes were scattered across the sofa, and leftover takeout sat abandoned on the dining table.

Was I rooming with a slob?

Instinctively, I began tidying up. By the time I realized what I was doing, I froze in place. Growing up, I had never lifted a finger. Since when was I so quick to clean up after someone else?

I scanned the room. The display case was filled with all sorts of flashy figurines, plushies, and preserved flower keepsakes. These were things I had zero interest in, viewing them as superficial gestures that couldn't compare to quality time.

Meanwhile, my absolute favorite ancient architecture models were sitting in the corner, covered in dust. I pulled out one of the models to wipe it clean, only to spot a photograph that had fallen behind the display case.

In the photo, a man who looked remarkably like me had his arm around my older sister Cora's best friend, Phoebe, both of them smiling happily.

Just as I was wondering why a photo of my sister's friend was in my home, the sound of keys unlocking the door echoed from outside. The sharp click of high heels stepped inside.

I turned around nervously, and the person walking through the door was the same Phoebe from the photo.

However, today's Phoebe was no longer as naive as she looked in the picture. Instead, she appeared elegant and distant, exuding the intimidating aura of someone in power.

"She and I are mortal enemies. I'm just asking about her so I can see if I can add fuel to the fire."…I contacted my lawyer immediately, pressing heavy charges against Phoebe. With irrefutable evidence stacked against her, she was sentenced to five years in prison.During her time behind bars, her mismanaged company collapsed. Every last bit of its assets was liquidated at court auctions, leaving her with absolutely nothing to her name. After resting and recovering for a while, I threw myself entirely into research work alongside Macy.Daily life became simple, vibrant, and deeply fulfilling. We spent long days and late nights hunched over desks side by side, completely in our element. We traveled to every corner of the country, gathering materials, conducting field studies on ancient structures, and publishing research papers. Hand in hand, we traced historical blueprints, drew detailed architectural models, and poured our hearts into conservation efforts.Four years later,

"If you're awake, we can begin the surgery."I struggled to move on the operating table, only to realize that my hands and feet were tied down.Surgery? What was she planning to do to me?A white-bearded old man in surgical scrubs stepped closer. "If the patient's subconscious mind actively resists restoring his memories, it will drastically lower the success rate of the procedure. It could even cause memory confusion, or in the worst-case scenario, permanently damage his cognitive functions."Hearing his words, I thrashed even harder, and the restraints chafed my wrists so badly that they began to bleed. He gave me a look of pity before turning to ask Phoebe, "Even with these risks, do you still wish to proceed?"Her brows knitted together as she weighed the risk. "Didn't you say earlier that you were confident? Is the risk really still that high even under general anesthesia?"The old man nodded helplessly. "The patient explicitly refuses the surgery and is experiencing extrem

"Phoebe, I'm standing here with another woman right in front of you. Do you seriously not care?"She acted as if she hadn't heard a single word, clutching David's hand tightly as though he were her absolute last lifeline."I asked you if there's still a way! Can I still make him love me again?!"Every word tumbled out alongside a stream of tears.David laughed at her absurdity. "Back when you were dating me, I didn't see you acting so ridiculously devoted! Phoebe, you will never get him back for as long as you live!"Hearing that, she yanked her hand back with all her strength, sending David crashing onto the floor."Impossible! He will love me again! Get out!"She swept everything on her desk to the ground, creating a deafening crash. Alongside the shattered items, her sanity collapsed from losing Damien. The next morning, an employee woke her up from the ruined floor of her office."Ms. Shaw, please wake up! David ran off with ninety percent of the company's cash flow!"Our

[Here's the tea! Phoebe Shaw's boyfriend isn't even sick! On the day he came in to resign, he got into a huge fight with her and ended up smashing the hard drive to pieces. I bet that's the exact day he maliciously altered the data. Besides, they weren't even together over the past five years!][No wonder! During those two livestreams, Phoebe didn't sound as if she was in love at all when talking about her boyfriend. Turns out it was all empty threats.]In an instant, the narrative flipped on its head as internet users turned their weapons directly on me. My direct messages blew up.As attention poured onto me, all kinds of fake leaks came flooding in. People even dug up claims that I had interfered in David and Phoebe's relationship, using my status as a wealthy heir to force David out of the country. They alleged that after chasing Phoebe relentlessly for three years to no avail, I used product distribution channels as blackmail to force my way into her company and harass her for

"She's taking advantage of Damien's memory loss, staying by his side every single day. If you don't speed things up, there won't be a place left for you by his side even if his memories return."Jealousy flared bright in Phoebe's eyes, instantly igniting her temper.David continued his coaxing. "Phoebe, as long as you step forward to testify, smear Damien's reputation, and leave him with nowhere else to turn, you'll be the only one there for him. When you reach out to help him then, will you still need to beg for him to come back like a fool?"The corners of Phoebe's mouth curled upward. She could already picture the scene of me meekly staying by her side.David pulled her into his arms, gently patting her back. "Phoebe, everything I do is for your sake. I don't have to be by your side, but you must have the person you love."Overwhelmed with guilt, Phoebe murmured, "I'm sorry, I just can't love two people at the same time."David let out a deep sigh. "As long as you're happy. I'

"You did great. I want to go home. Could you help me with the discharge papers?"Macy agreed, her ears turning bright red.Suddenly, the quick click of a camera shutter shattered the tender atmosphere. A shadow moved past the doorway, and Macy sprinted into the hallway after them.…Minutes later, she walked back into the room looking completely deflated."I couldn't catch them. Will whatever photo they took cause trouble for you?"I shrugged indifferently. "It's fine. We'll deal with whatever comes our way. They can't do anything to me."A few days later, Phoebe's company officially launched its new product, "Ocean Blue". At the press conference, Phoebe spoke at length about my contributions to the design, giving me full credit for the product's release and praising my hard work in leading the team.Taking advantage of the moment, a reporter in the crowd spoke up to ask, "Is this Mr. Robertson you're praising so highly present here today? What exactly is your relationship with
