Chapter 2

Author: Ethereal Realm
That cruel man who killed me in my past life had not broken through the window yet.

Time was running short. He had an axe. Plus, he was much stronger and faster than I was.

Once he had lost his patience with toying with me, I was basically dead. I had to do something.

Luckily, I was not too high up in the building. If I tried my best, I might just survive it all.

The cat's meows came right at this moment, just like how it happened in my past life. The killer was about to barge through the window.

I immediately opened the door and ran out, following the memory I had from the last life, avoiding all the obstacles.

The entire building was in total darkness; the only thing lit was the green emergency exit lights.

The comments started appearing in front of me again.

[My God! She's quite smart. I can see she really wants to live, but it's too bad she won't get past this episode.]

[Yes. If she didn't die, why would the villain go mad and attack the main characters?]

[Yes. It's pointless even if she escaped the room. The main entrance had been locked by the killer.]

My heart sank as I read the comments. Could I not escape my fate?

No. As long as there was a slight possibility, I would live. My mind ran quickly, trying to think about the details in the past.

Who was the villain? If he could save me, where should I go to look for him?

When I was by the staircase, I heard a loud crash coming from the lounge. The killer had barged in.

I ran and quickly found a spot to hide. The entire building was in complete darkness, yet there were no movements from the patients or the medical staff on shift.

I had a bad feeling.

Sure enough. As I looked through a few rooms, there was not a soul in sight. There was no one. There were also no signs of the room being lived in. All the rooms were oddly clean and tidy.

How could this be possible?

The medical staff had greeted me with a smile at around 10:00 P.M. However, at this moment, the entire building seemed to be covered in darkness, waiting to swallow me whole.

I suppressed the fear in me and quickly swept through the room, scanning for a place to hide.

The cabinets? Under the bed? Behind the couch?

No. Those options were far too conspicuous.

I quickened my steps. Just when the man upstairs started coming downstairs, I finally found a place to hide.

The second room on the left on the second floor used to be a counseling room. Yet, it was also in utter silence at that moment.

So many people had vanished in the third ward. There must be more than one killer.

Although I was not too high up, I was not sure if I could successfully survive a jump from the window. I avoided all of the possible danger, so choosing to hide was my best option.

I entered the counselling room, careful not to leave any footprints behind. Then, I quickly found an abandoned vent behind the shelf and burrowed myself inside.

No one knew about this place other than some medical staff. I tried to breathe slowly while trying to come up with a survival strategy in the dark.

If this world truly revolved around the duel between the villain and the hero, then for someone like me, the so-called side character mentioned in those strange comments, survival meant that I had to choose a side.

I was a little uncertain about the hero's stance. I did not know what the comments meant by a villain pairing, but from their words, I was on the same side as the villain for the time being.

According to the story, no matter where I hid, being killed by the killer was just a matter of time.

Only by getting the villain involved and joining forces with him could I have a chance of survival.

However, who on earth was the villain?

I ignored Quince's other messages and quickly found things I could use in the room.[What is she trying to do?][Ma'am, there's a killer outside the window! Why are you not running?][Why are you picking up the fire extinguisher and the steel rod? I'm getting confused!]I took a deep breath and opened the window. The man who was playing the recording of a cat's meows on the air-conditioning unit suddenly looked up. Even though he was wearing a face mask, I could see his menacing smirk.I aimed the fire extinguisher at him and pulled the pin. White dust quickly filled the air, choking him until tears fell. He stumbled and almost fell from the air-conditioning unit.We were on the fourth floor. It was not too high up, but he would surely break a bone or two if he fell.He grabbed the window, trying to force his way in. I snickered at him and grabbed the steel rod before driving it into his leg.The moment the rod stabbed into his leg, he wailed in pain. The killer who had been to

Somehow, I fell asleep. When I woke up, the sun was up.Quince was by the side of the bed. He smiled tenderly at me when I woke up."Everything's fine. The killer has been arrested by the cops. How are you feeling? The effects of the hallucinogen should've passed now."I was stunned.Did it end just like that? What about Quince being the villain? Hold on. No. Those comments were just my hallucinations. It was the consequence of reading too many trashy novels. However, how could Quince get the killer arrested so easily? I quickly returned to the third ward. The corridors were buzzing with people. A young nurse greeted me with a smile."Dr. Larson, good morning. Are you feeling better? You suddenly ran downstairs and rang the fire alarm. You frightened us. Your stalker, that mental asylum patient, has been arrested by the cops, but the dean is still concerned about your situation. He's already approved a week of leave for you. Paid."So, everything that happened the night before

I watched as Quince called the cops. He changed his clothes and took me to a lounge area. Then, he locked the doors and windows.[The villain is so hot! I can't take my eyes off him!][The side character has finally found the villain! Knowing how much he cares for her, let's see how the killer is going to kill her.][With the hero still around, do you think the side character and the villain would have a happy ending?]So, not only did the killer have a grudge with me, but also the hero?I racked my brain, thinking back to my younger days. I could not think of anyone who would have a grudge against me. At least, not to the point where they would want me dead.Just as I was engrossed in my thoughts, a blanket was put on me."It's late. Get some sleep. I'll stay by your side." Quince, sitting in front of me, was blushing, but he still maintained a calm face.He looked at me and said, "I've called the cops. I guess they'll be here in half an hour. I'll protect you in the meantime.

"Albert, get the first-aid kit! David is hurt!" someone yelled anxiously through the door.I was stunned and looked up suddenly. I was about to stop Albert, but he was already by the door with his hand on the doorknob. He opened the door and said anxiously, "There are so many of you. How on earth did he get hurt?"I yelled, "Don't open the door!"However, I was too late. The moment the door opened, the killer rushed in with the axe. Albert reacted immediately and got into a fight with the killer, but due to his old age, he was no match for the other man.I looked around in terror, trying to find something to defend myself. All I saw was a tiny fruit knife.Soon, Albert was lying in the pool of his own blood. The killer turned to look at me. As the familiar pain hit me, I stabbed the knife into his neck. Blood splattered everywhere, but I was the first to fall.Comments appeared once more.[The side character still died in the end. The villain was so close!][Dude! Come and ave

I looked up in horror to see a man standing behind Jason. His smirk under his face mask grew into a wide smile as the axe glimmered dangerously.Without any hesitation, he attacked Jason. Before Jason could react, he was already lying in the pool of his blood. The killer slowly looked at me.The next second, a wave of pain washed over me as my world was dyed in blood once more. The comments appeared again.[Oh, no! She's dead. The villain will surely go mad seeing her body.][This blind date of hers is quite good-looking, too. No wonder the villain's been jealous for so long.][Why are there so many people siding with the villain? How disgusting! She deserves her death! I really want to see the hero taking the villain down!]When I woke up once more, it was back to midnight again. The moonlight shone dimly into the lounge as my hand was on the window latch, about to open the window.[Don't open the window! There's no cat outside! It's a serial killer!][I'm done. How can she

In the darkness, I heard a flurry of footsteps coming downstairs. The killer had fallen for it.He thought I had gone downstairs, so he went after me. However, I knew that I did not have much time. He would soon find out that he had been played.Sure enough, not long later, heavy footsteps rang out in the corridor. The killer was back!I waited with bated breath as the footsteps approached me.[My God! I shouldn't watch this in the middle of the night. I hope she survives.][Look for the villain! He wants to protect her so eagerly!][I don't dare to watch this at all! The killing is too cruel! Even if he had a grudge against the side character, he didn't need to make it so creepy, right?][Haha! We're in beta testing. Surely there'd be bugs.][The villain is at his home, which is close to the hospital. If only she could go and ask him for help.][If only she could send him a message. He would surely be able to save her!]Beta testing? What kind of test?My attention was soo
