I Was Your Only Secret

His name was Ivan Blake. He was the man Elena Coleman had fallen in love with at thirty years old.He was also the newest intern at her company.I had met Ivan a few times. Fresh out of college, he was cheerful, naive, and inexperienced, reminding me of myself back when I was right out of college.Elena absentmindedly scrolled through her phone, glancing out of the window every now and then.It was raining heavily outside. I knew she was worried about Ivan, though it wasn't a guess—her thoughts had told me so.The food I had prepared for our fifth wedding anniversary had long since gone cold on the table. It was just like my heart, which grew colder by the minute.Elena didn't notice a thing as her attention was no longer on me.In the past, she would notice even the slightest change in my mood and comfort me right away. But today, I was practically invisible to her as she was focused on nothing but her phone and Ivan.Suddenly, her phone beeped, breaking the strange sil

Naturally, my problems no longer mattered to her.Maybe it was for the best. Elena had been so heartless, and there was nothing left for me to hold on to.At the same time, I was glad that I could leave her without hesitation. My old injury was in bad shape, and I needed surgery. While waiting to be called into the operating room, I scrolled through my phone to pass the time. That was when I came across Ivan's latest Instagram post. The caption read, "Broke my leg slipping in the rain. Thanks to Ms. Coleman, I'm recovering well!"In the photo, Ivan grinned and flashed a peace sign while Elena stood behind him, smiling at him. There was so much love in the way she looked at him. I had seen that look before, as Elena used to look at me the same way.But now, she was looking at someone else like that, and it made me sick.I quietly put my phone away and went into the operating room alone. The surgery went more smoothly than I had expected, but it hurt a lot.As the cold surg

I scoffed. "I'm not joking. You agreed to the divorce too. Remember the document I asked you to sign at the hospital? You signed it without hesitation."Elena went pale and said in a trembling voice, "I didn't know it was a divorce agreement! That doesn't count!"I was getting impatient. For the first time, I realized how relentless Elena could be."I gave you a chance to read it, and I didn't hide anything from you. You were too busy thinking about Ivan, so you signed it without even looking."My words seemed to jog Elena's memory. She tried to argue but couldn't get a word out.I pressed on. "Besides, the agreement clearly states that you'll walk away with nothing, so pack your bags and get the hell out of my house!"Elena shouted in disbelief, "You're divorcing me just because I haven't been home for a few days? And you want me to walk away with nothing? You must be joking, right?"I almost laughed. No wonder she had been so confident about trying to make up with me. I

Elena pleaded with me as if she truly cared about her company."Are you sure you've worked hard? When you left your company behind to take care of Ivan at the hospital and ignored your business affairs, where was all that hard work then?"Elena had barely shown up at the company while she was taking care of Ivan, yet now, she had the nerve to tell me how much the company meant to her."No, that's not true! I didn't!" Elena immediately denied it, but actions spoke louder than words."You know whether you did or not, and your behavior has upset the company's management. So, as the person in charge of the company, I'm firing you."I deliberately announced Elena's dismissal in court, crushing her pride.Hearing this, Elena clutched her head in anguish and screamed at me."Julian, do you really have to ruin me?"Ruin her? This was only the beginning. She should've known this day would come the moment she cheated on me.All the evidence supported my claims, and Elena lost the case.

But every time, I would either mock her or make fun of her. When she realized she couldn't get me to help her, she finally stopped reaching out to me.The next time I heard about Elena and Ivan, they were in the news."A woman and her boyfriend got into a violent fight at home and accidentally fell from their balcony. Fortunately, neither of them suffered life-threatening injuries."Although their faces had been blurred, I recognized them at a glance. It was Elena and Ivan.Only then did I find out that, after failing to attract investors, Elena had turned to online loans and lost all the money she had borrowed. She had already borrowed money from everyone she could think of. With nowhere else to turn, she finally turned to me, but I had refused to lend her any.Her attempt to start a business failed, leaving her buried in debt.In the beginning, Ivan would encourage Elena, and they were pretty sweet together. However, after Elena's business failed and her pride took a hit,
