Chapter 4

Author: Perfect Timing
"Aah!"

A sharp, throbbing pain burst through my earlobe as blood slid down my hair and dripped onto the floor.

Completely unfazed, Vivian tossed the earring to the ground and crushed it under her heel. Her voice dripped with arrogance.

"Let's see if our delicate illegitimate Alice bleeds to death."

Warm liquid kept sliding down my neck. Panic surged through me—followed instantly by pure rage.

"You're insane."

I stepped forward, desperate to make her pay, but someone pulled me back.

It was my only friend from high school—my former deskmate.

Vivian spotted who stopped me and smirked, her expression full of triumph. She lifted her chin and laughed provocatively.

"Hit me? Hahaha. Go ahead—look around. Who here would ever help you?"

She deliberately walked up to me and tapped her own cheek. "I'm a wealthy heiress now. If you're so tough, go ahead—hit me, loser."

I clenched my teeth and looked at my high school deskmate, who didn't even have the courage to meet my eyes. A bitter laugh escaped me.

"You're all equally wicked. You'll regret this."

"Regret?" Vivian scoffed. "What a joke. Why would I ever regret it? But you… I'm not so sure about you."

She waved her hand slightly and turned to the group of former classmates, amusement in her voice.

"Beat her. Whoever satisfies me will get a business opportunity from my dad.

"Oh, and remember—our little princess here has a bleeding disorder. Draw blood and I'll give each of you ten grand."

At that, my old classmates didn't care whether they knew me or not—they swarmed me with fists and kicks.

"Just because we tore out your earring, you think you can fight Vivian? She's the daughter of the legal wife. You, an illegitimate brat, actually think you compare?"

"A bleeding disorder? Good. I'm afraid you won't die fast enough. People as vicious as you should've been strangled at birth."

"Trash stays trash. Come on, put your back into it. Look at her—she still thinks she's above us."

"Hahaha, look at her now. Pathetic. Record it. Post it online—‘The legal daughter teaching the illegitimate bastard a lesson.' That'll feel good."

My high school deskmate suddenly pulled out a nail knife from God knows where and stabbed it into my thigh. She yanked it out—then stabbed again.

"Alice, don't blame me. I need the money to get into the Hawley Group. You won't hate me for it… right?"

Vivian stood with her arms crossed, watching them torture me like entertainment.

"Regretting it yet? Tsk tsk… how pitiful. Just like a stray dog."

She lowered her gaze to me, voice dripping venom. "Remember this—you and I are not the same. Some people are born noble. People like you can keep dreaming about a life like that."

The others chimed in instantly.

"She's just a useless illegitimate child without a home."

"Exactly. And now, even illegitimate kids can inherit. Honestly, I hope she dies today so she won't try to steal Vivian's inheritance later."

"That's nothing. My neighbor just divorced his wife. When this party ends, I'll send her over to him as a bride. I heard he's into special… tastes."

"Hahahaha, Carl, you always have the best ideas. Trash like her deserves a man like that."

"You gotta admit… Alice's got the body for it, though—"

Filth and cruelty flooded my mind as blood loss drained every ounce of strength from my limbs.

Vivian stepped closer. Her heel ground into the puddle of blood around me as she gripped my chin, forcing my face up. Her voice was ice-cold.

"Doesn't feel so good now, does it? Didn't you say your earring would trigger an alarm and send out your location? Funny… I don't see anyone coming to save you."

The moment her words fell, the sound of an engine roared to life outside.

Someone shouted from the hallway, "The owner of the villa is back!"

I lifted my head toward the door.

Was my mom finally here?

The moment Celia recognized Vivian's mother, a cold smile curved across her lips. She lifted her foot and kicked Vivian's mother to the ground, then ground the heel of her stiletto hard into the woman's hand."It's you. Back then, when I wanted to sponsor your education, you refused. Never thought you'd throw yourself at the chance to become a mistress instead."Men are things I can give away if I feel like it. But what you should never—ever—have done was lay a hand on my daughter."After finishing with the three of them, Celia turned her gaze on the rest of the people kneeling on the floor."Everyone here, listen carefully. The entire estate is under surveillance. I've already sent your crimes to the police. How they handle it is their business. I won't interfere…"Just as everyone began to think they were spared, her next words detonated like a bomb."But—if any company dares to hire any one of you from now on, then they're declaring war on the Hawley Group. Your lives are off

Everyone was stunned by the commotion and turned toward the entrance.Outside, more than a hundred cars had formed a tight encirclement. Several imposing bodyguards stepped out of each vehicle and lined up neatly behind my mother, forming a wall so solid not even air seemed able to pass through."What's going on? What's with the commotion?""Did she just say 'my daughter'? Is she talking about Alice?""No way. Alice's nothing but a bitch who stole Vivian's family. There's no way she'd have this kind of backing.""Exactly. If she were really that powerful, how come we never heard about it?"The air was full of doubt and disbelief. They just couldn't accept that the girl they had bullied moments ago might actually have this kind of background. As soon as Celia Hawley entered, she spotted her battered, blood-stained daughter. Pain flashed across her eyes. The accompanying doctor saw me too and immediately rushed forward, ready to take me down for treatment—but Vivian stepped in f

No one present was stupid. Everyone understood exactly what his words implied. Those who had mocked me earlier because of my "illegitimate" status now looked horrified."Did I hear that right? Is Mr. Spencer saying that Vivian is the illegitimate daughter?""So we were helping the illegitimate one bully the real daughter of the legal wife?""So Alice's mother is the legal wife, and Mrs. Spencer is the mistress? Holy—this is insane."My high school deskmate gripped the nail-art knife she had used to injure me, her face darkening as she muttered again and again, How? How is this possible? How is she not the illegitimate one? Why isn't she the illegitimate one? It can't be. It must be fake."Desmond thought for a long moment, then helped me up from the floor. But the words that came out of his mouth almost made me laugh from sheer disbelief."Vivian is also my daughter. She's your sister. She's suffered so much all these years. From now on, you need to take good care of her."And a

The moment Desmond saw my face clearly, the arrogance on his expression evaporated, replaced by a flicker of panic in his eyes.Around us, classmates exchanged confused looks. They didn't recognize Desmond's name, but it wasn't hard for them to guess."Is Alice crazy? She actually called Mr. Spencer by his name.""She's not crazy—she must know him. So she really is Mr. Spencer's daughter. The way she talks, it's like she isn't afraid of him at all.""She's putting on a show. Even if she's not afraid, she's still an illegitimate child. If she weren't, why did we never hear anything about her in high school?""So shameless. Mr. Spencer is only being nice because of their blood ties. She actually thinks she's special? Maybe she was his only child before, but now that Vivian's back in the family, what does she count as?"Hearing the chatter, the panic on Vivian's face vanished as quickly as it appeared.Right. She was the daughter he publicly acknowledged. Who did Alice think she wa

I was practically lying in a pool of my own blood, my hair glued to my face, every bit of my usual sharpness stripped away.Only now did the others notice how much blood surrounded me. Panic flickered across a few faces."This… this amount of blood isn't normal, right? We didn't hurt her that badly.""She really might have that coagulation disorder. If she doesn't stop bleeding like this… will she actually die?""No way… right? I-I only stabbed her twice with the nail knife. How was I supposed to know she was really sick?""If she's sick, she shouldn't have left her house. What bad luck."Even Vivian looked shaken by my condition, though she quickly regained her composure—after all, she had backing.Maybe it was because I looked so different from my usual self, but Desmond stared at me for a long while and still didn't recognize me. His tense shoulders relaxed immediately. Then he looked at me the way someone looks at trash."You hurt my daughter back in high school, and now yo

Vivian loosened her grip and turned toward the entrance.Dozens of luxury cars lined up outside. My high school classmates had never seen anything like it; they were stunned into silence, their hands frozen mid-air.Under everyone's watchful eyes, Desmond stepped out of the central car. His vanity was practically glowing. He had spent years taking care of himself for the sake of pursuing my mother, and paired with a perfectly tailored suit, he looked far younger than his age. If Vivian hadn't called him "Dad," no one would have believed it."So that's Vivian's father? I heard he's older than my dad by a year, but he looks the same age.""Damn, look at those cars. Several of them are limited editions. And that Bugatti in the center—there are only three in the world.""I heard about that! The buyer said he bought it for his daughter. I used to be so jealous… never thought it was for Vivian."Basking in everyone's envy, Vivian strutted proudly to her father's side."Dad, are these
