The moment I saw her; everything else disappeared. The crowded courtyard, the northern Alphas and the ceremony preparations seemed gone to me. Only her remained.
She stood near the center of the fortress grounds wrapped in a dark traveling cloak while snow drifted around her like silver ash and even from this distance I could feel the dangerous energy radiating beneath her skin.
My wolf lost its mind instantly. The possessiveness slammed through me so violently that power cracked through the staircase.
Several nearby wolves flinched. I barely noticed because the woman below was staring at me too, those eyes were silver too.
Ancient instinct ripped through my chest hard enough to hurt “Mate”.
The realization hit like a blade sliding between my ribs. This is impossible.
For years I had convinced myself the bond would never happen for me. Powerful Alphas rarely found true mates and yet every part of me knew immediately that the woman standing in my courtyard belonged to me.
My wolf surged violently beneath my skin “Go to her and claim her now” was the only instruction my wolf kept giving.
I gripped the stone railing hard enough to crack it. The northern Alphas surrounding the courtyard had already begun noticing the tension but if they realized what she was to me before I understood why my instincts reacted this strongly… the political consequences would become catastrophic.
Cassian appeared beside me instantly. “Draeven”.
I ignored him. The woman still hadn’t looked away. Most wolves lowered their gaze beneath Alpha dominance instinctively but she didn’t which was wrong.
Every powerful Alpha in the courtyard could feel my dominance pressing through the air right now. Yet somehow she stood untouched by it.
‘Who are you?’ I thought.
The question echoed sharply through my mind. Then suddenly pain struck my chest, it was her pain: fear mixed with fury.
The unstable bond snapped violently between us like invisible chains tightening around my ribs.
My breathing stalled. What the hell…
“She’s reacting too” Cassian muttered beside me.
I looked sharply toward him. His expression had gone grim. A Beta of his level could sense powerful bonds instinctively.
“She’s your mate” he said quietly.
Below us, whispers had already begun spreading through the courtyard. The woman’s expression hardened suddenly.
Fear disappeared from her face almost instantly, replaced by something colder: defiance. My wolf reacted with immediate fascination. Then she did the one thing no wolf had ever dared do beneath my gaze.
She stepped backward: Rejection instinct.
The realization hit hard. Power rolled sharply through the courtyard again.
Several Alphas looked uneasy now but the woman only narrowed her silver eyes at me like she wanted to stab something.
Unexpected amusement flickered briefly beneath my irritation. She was either incredibly brave…or completely insane or maybe possibly both.
Cassian exhaled slowly “This is becoming a problem very quickly”.
“Yes” I agreed.
Because I could already see it unfolding.
The council would panic and the Alphas would speculate. A dangerous silence settled behind me.
I turned slightly. Seralyn stood several steps away near the hall entrance, watching it all. Intelligent women were troublesome that way.
Her gaze shifted between me and the silver-eyed woman below.
For the first time since I’d known her… Seralyn looked unsettled.
The horn sounded again across Moonspire.
The official beginning of the Bloodmoon Gathering. Every Alpha present began moving toward the great hall entrance.
Still, my attention remained fixed entirely on her. She didn’t belong here, not among ordinary wolves. Everything about her felt different, dangerous and ancient. My wolf recognized it instinctively.
Below, the woman finally broke eye contact and turned toward the entrance hall with the others but not before I caught the expression on her face: Pure, immediate anger at me, like I disgust her.
That startled me more than it should have. Most wolves feared me instantly. This woman looked like she already hated me.
She became my center of attraction. The more I felt her hatred for me, the more I want to have her. Isn't that interesting!
I wanted walking but it was like my leg was stuck, I really did not understand why but I know it might be related to the presence of the silver eyes girl. And again, I felt sudden surge beneath my skin, my wolf screamed "Take her, you own her", my chest burn and my ribs tightened.
I was lost in my thought for a second 'What if she doesn't want me? What if she isn't actually my mate, maybe I'm just carried away by her beauty but her presence felt really strange and powerful; that can't be ignored after all she looks just like an ordinary wolf.
But there was something beneath looks that caught my attention, something behind the silver eyes made her look different and my body reacted immediately.
If truly she was my mate then I think I might be doomed!
CHAPTER 14 The Man Who Should Be DeadKaelis POVMy pulse pounder. I hated that immediately "You knew my mother truly?"The stranger smiled slightly "Very well…and don't get me wrong, I didn't kill her but I wished I could have”. The answer only irritated me "That's not what I asked". A faint chuckle escaped him. The man looked genuinely amused "You're exactly like her…Stubborn, stupid and thought she could do all sort of things cos she had power”. My stomach tightened. The statement felt too personal.Draeven stepped forward. PHis gaze moved between us, then his smile widened "So the bond is real". Draeven's expression darkened "I'll ask only once more". The Alpha King's voice cut through the chamber "Who are you?"The stranger sighed, almost disappointed "As impatient and unbelieving as your father. I said I'm your fucking uncle”. “My uncle died twenty years ago” Draeven said, almost yelling. His words sharpened something dangerous in Draeven's eyes. The man finally looked to
Kaelis POVThe growl did not belong to a wolf.I knew that immediately. Every werewolf recognized wolf sounds instinctively and this wasn't one.The noise rolled through the chamber like distant thunder, vibrating through the stone beneath our feet. For a split second, nobody moved. Weapons were drawn and guards shifted into defensive positions.Cassian stepped forward immediately, placing himself between the darkness and the rest of us. The chamber had become almost completely black.Only the glowing eyes of the ancient statue remained visible. Silver light hovered inside the darkness like twin moons.Another growl echoed. The bond snapped tight between Draeven and me. The feeling hit both of us simultaneously. Every hair on my body stood upright.Around us, the temperature dropped sharply. Breath fogged before faces, the chamber felt colder with every passing second.A guard swallowed audibly "What is that?"Nobody answered. Then movement flickered within the darkness fast. One of t
Draeven POVThe bond hit me like a punch to the chest, like it was raw and overwhelming. I stopped halfway down the hidden staircase.Cassian nearly walked into me "What is it?" he asked.I was a bit startled “Oh my gods, you scared me” I almost yelled. “King's aren't supposed to be scared” H e said. “This isn't a battlelfield Cassian. I'm looking for a lost human not a war” I said to him.“Thats fine but what happened?” Vivian asked he asked anyways. “The soldiers I met here said she opened the wall and we tunside” I said while looking insticntely at the wall. “But she's never been here” he said. “Well, that's what's shocking” I answered. “Aren't you supposed to go inside?” he asked. Suddenly, the bond was flooding with different emotions that weren't mine: Confusion, disbelief and questions. The connection between us felt sharper than ever before, like something had gone wrong with her.Cassian and I took the courage and went into the walls and found a pathway. I increased my
Kaelis POVThe wall had opened because of me, that fact followed me down the staircase like a shadow. I didn't understand it or trust it and definitely didn't like it, yet here I was.Descending deeper beneath Moonspire Fortress alone. The hidden passage stretched downward in a spiral of ancient stone lit by pale blue crystals embedded in the walls. Their glow wasn't bright enough to chase away every shadow, but it revealed enough for me to continue. The air felt different here as though nobody had walked these halls for centuries. My boots echoed softly against the steps.Above me, the entrance had already sealed itself shut. I was trapped underground in a fortress that wasn't mine, exactly how every bad decision started.I should turn around, the thought came and went but I was curious and if I was being honest, something else had brought me here: Apull I couldn't explain, almost like a memory, just that it wasn't my memory. The deeper I descended, the stronger the sensation became
Draeven POVThe gathering ended less than an hour later but officially, the feast continued. Nobles still pretended everything was normal but the Bloodmoon Gathering was ruined by my rejection and everyone in Moonspire knew. The moment Kaelis rejected me, every alliance, every negotiation and every political discussion became secondary.I stood inside the war chamber overlooking the northern mountains while snow battered the tall windows. The room was empty except for Cassian which was exactly how I preferred it. The council had spent the last thirty minutes attempting to force their opinions on me."They're panicking” Cassian leaned against the stone table."They should. Not that I wasn't expecting that" I chuckled.I stared out into the darkness and I feared people might see her as an outcast or demon possessed wolf or more, specifically what people believed she might be: “The Moon Queen”. The title kept returning and I hadn't heard those words in years. It wasn't just a forgotten
Kaelis POVThe chandeliers above continued burning, the musicians in the far corner stood frozen with their instruments and all eyes were fixed on us because Alpha Draeven Thorn had just spoken a single word. And every wolf in Moonspire knew exactly what it meant. My pulse hammered against my ribs, the bond stretched between us like a living thing and I hated it instantly.Across the hall, dozens of eyes locked onto me: you could see curiosity, shock, jealousy and fear. Some stared at me as though I had won a prize while others looked at me like I had become a threat.Neither reaction sat well with me.The bond pulsed again.A sharp wave of possessiveness rolled through it.Draeven was just there, staring a me, his golden eyes never left mine. As if every person in the room had vanished, like it was only the two of us existed. The attention felt suffocating, that moment I knew that I wanted it out.My mother's voice echoed from years ago: "The day an Alpha claims ownership over your
Kaelis POVThe farther north we traveled, the quieter everyone became. Even Nyra stopped complaining by the second day and that alone felt unnatural enough to concern me.Snow fell steadily around our caravan as Black Hollow wolves pushed through the frozen mountain roads leading toward Moonspire.
Draeven POVI woke with blood on my hands. For one disoriented second, instinct took over. My wolf surged violently beneath my skin while I scanned the dark room for threats but there was nothing, no enemies and attackers.Cold moonlight spilled across the stone walls of my chambers while harsh bre
Kaelis POV Snow covered the rooftops in uneven layers while cold fog curled through the narrow streets like wandering ghosts as we leave for Moonspire this morning. Wolves moved quietly between cabins carrying supplies, weapons and travel packs, their expressions tense beneath and you could see it
Draeven POVThe throne room smelled like blood and fear.I preferred it that way.Silence stretched heavily across Moonspire Hall while the kneeling wolf at the center of the room trembled hard enough for chains to rattle against the marble floor. No one spoke and no one dared to speak.Rain hammere
