Morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, creating golden stripes across Amanda’s luxurious room.

She lay sprawled across her enormous bed like a princess on a throne, blankets half-kicked off, hair tossed wildly around her pillow. Her lips were slightly pouted even in sleep.

She stirred.

A small groan slipped from her lips as she stretched lazily, not fully awake yet. She blinked slowly, annoyed at the brightness of the sun. “Ugh… morning already?” she mumbled under her breath.

Then, before she could shift again, she felt a close, warm presence behind her.

The mattress dipped slightly, as though someone had carefully sat down right beside her.

Amanda didn’t even question it at first — she simply rolled her eyes dramatically.

Of course it was Alec. Who else would dare walk into her room?

Then a warm, solid, firm hand settled on her shoulder.

Amanda huffed loudly, exaggerating her annoyance. “Oh, seriously?” she snapped, still facing away. “Alec, what are you even doing here? I’

  • The Moon's Chosen    CHAPTER 39

KIRA'S POVI stayed crouched on the attic floor, the faded letter still open in my hand. My knee ached from the awkward position, and my foot throbbed from the injury, but none of that mattered anymore. Not compared to the strange tight feeling curling in my chest now—not fear exactly, but something else. Curiosity. Deep and unsettling. My heartbeat, which had been a little quick a moment ago, finally steadied. But the more it steadied, the more focused I became. I stared down at the torn edge of the paper again, tracing the uneven rip with the tip of my finger. The paper felt fragile, almost brittle, like it would crumble if I pressed too hard.I let out a quiet breath and glanced back at the box I took the letter from. “Maybe… maybe the rest is in here,” I murmured softly, even though I wasn’t so sure it's in it.I shifted forward on my good knee, planting my left hand on the floor for balance, and pulled the box closer. Dust puffed upward in a thin cloud, dancing in the warm ye

  • The Moon's Chosen    CHAPTER 38

KIRA'S POVThe attic door creaked faintly as I pushed it open. The sound was soft, but in the quiet of the hallway it echoed a little, brushing a shiver along my arms. I shifted my weight on my good leg, braced myself on the doorframe, and reached for the small switch beside the entrance. With a muted click, the dim attic bulb flickered twice—once, twice—before stabilizing into a glow that barely pushed the shadows away from the corners of the room. Dust motes floated gently in the air rising and falling with every breath I took.I stepped inside, limping slightly, the towel around my foot already warm and damp again. I could feel the throb of the wound, but I ignored it for now. This balm—Healer Wynna’s balm—was my best hope. I just needed to find it.“Okay… okay,” I muttered under my breath as I took another step forward, my fingers brushing against the railing for balance. “It should be here. It has to be here.”The attic smelled like old wood, forgotten boxes, and the faint hin

  • The Moon's Chosen    CHAPTER 37

KIRA'S POVThe bleeding… it just wouldn’t stop.I stared at my leg again as fresh red seeped directly through the bandage I had wrapped only seconds earlier. It was impossible—absolutely impossible—that a simple cut from a broken piece of glass could behave like this. Cuts sting, they bleed, they throb… but they don’t pour like this.“Seriously?” I muttered under my breath as I pressed another pad against the wound. “Of all days… it has to be today.”The cotton turned red almost instantly — dark red, thick, warm. I hissed under my breath in annoyance and grabbed another pad. I wasn’t even done wrapping the first one before the blood started seeping through the layers like it was racing to escape.“Great. Fantastic,” I mumbled to myself. “Because this day wasn’t already ridiculous enough.”I tightened the bandage again, annoyed at how useless it felt. I pressed down harder, trying to clean around the edges, but with every swipe the fresh blood replaced the old faster than I could kee

  • The Moon's Chosen    CHAPTER 36

KIRA'S POVThe breath caught in my throat so violently that it felt like something clawed up my chest and shut my airway for a full second. A sharp gasp tore out of me, loud, raw, uncontrolled. My grip on the glass slipped instantly. It fell.I didn’t even feel it leaving my fingers—one moment it was in my hand, the next it was tumbling downward. The shattering sound exploded through the silent kitchen, echoing off the walls with a sharpness that rattled straight into my bones. Glittering shards scattered across the floor. My body moved on instinct, spinning around so fast that the air rushed past my ears. But—There was nothing. No one.Just the kitchen. It was empty, still and quiet. My heart was sprinting inside my chest, thudding against my ribs like it was trying to break free. I stared, wide-eyed, at the empty space behind me, the place where that figure had been just seconds ago— tall, shadowy, unmoving. But now… nothing.I took one wary step forward, my breath trembling as

  • The Moon's Chosen    CHAPTER 35

KIRA'S POV The moment I unlocked my front door and stepped inside, a long, tired breath escaped my lungs, slipping out of me like I had been holding it tightly all day without realizing it. I closed the door behind me gently, letting the soft click echo through the silent house as I leaned back against it for a moment, letting my head fall backward with a dull thud. My neck felt stiff, heavy, like I had been clenching every muscle without pause since morning. I lifted my hand, rubbing slowly from the base of my skull down to my shoulder, rotating it in small circles, trying to massage away the tension.“Goddess… what a day,” I muttered under my breath, feeling a faint sting of exhaustion behind my eyes.Today had felt unusually long. From the moment I woke up trembling from that dream about the blood moon, to the suffocating panic that clawed at my chest when I replayed it in my mind, to the loud, dramatic confrontation Amanda forced on me in the office… every hour had felt like

  • The Moon's Chosen    CHAPTER 34

KIRA'S POV I jolted awake. My whole body lurched forward like someone had yanked me out of a drowning sea. My breath tore out of my chest in sharp, broken gasps, and my fingers clawed into the edge of my desk before I even understood where I was.I was in my office. Not the stone room. Not the lantern-lit hallway. Not under the pulsing Blood Moon.I was in my office. But the terror didn’t fade. If anything, it grew sharper. My heart thumped painfully against my ribs, hard and frantic, like it wanted to break free. Sweat clung to my forehead, dripping along the side of my face as I struggled to suck in a shaky breath. The dream flashed behind my eyes again. That sky. That moon… glowing like a bleeding wound in the heavens.I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to calm my racing mind.A Blood Moon… Why would I see that? Why now?Another breath trembled out of me."No… no, no, this doesn’t make sense," I whispered to myself, pressing a palm to my chest in a weak effort to steady my heartbeat
