KIRA’S POV

“Come with me,” Lydia said, her voice low but urgent as she straightened her hoodie and turned deeper into the woods. “I can show you where it stopped.”

I stayed where I was for a moment, my chest rising and falling too fast, my ears still ringing from the chase.

The night air felt colder now like it was pressing against my skin instead of brushing past it.

My leg throbbed sharply, a deep pulse that spread from my ankle upward, reminding me of every careless step I had taken while running after her.

Lydia glanced back at me. “It’s not far,” she added. “But that part of the forest… it’s different. The trees are closer together. Darker. Like the light doesn’t really reach there.”

“I couldn’t tell what the shadow went there to do. I don’t know if it went to leave something behind, or take something, or if that place is where it lives,” Lydia stated.

My leg chose that moment to remind me of itself again.

Pain flared, sharp and hot, and I hissed quietly, shifting my weight.

KIRA’S POV.Liana’s words hung in the air between us, heavy and unsettling.“Whatever that thing was… it’s not normal.”She didn’t know how right she was.Erica shifted beside me, crossing her arms. “The council’s already involved?” she asked.Liana nodded. “They called an emergency meeting at dawn. Extra patrols, healers on standby—the whole thing.” She hesitated, then added, “Everyone’s on edge. I’m surprised the two of you haven’t heard about it yet. It was horrible.”I forced myself to nod like this was just another crisis. Another border scare. Another strange report. But my body wasn’t buying it.My heart was still racing, my palms damp. The image of the creature from my dreams wouldn’t leave me alone—claws ripping through earth, smoke curling around its massive shape, that deep, wrong feeling in my chest.“Kira?” Erica said quietly. “You sure you’re okay?”I realized I hadn’t answered Liana. Or Erica. I hadn’t even blinked.“I’m fine,” I said again, too fast. “Just… tired.”Lia

  • The Moon's Chosen    CHAPTER 70

KIRA’S POVThe hospital came into view, its white walls glowing softly under the early morning light. I slowed the car without meaning to, my foot easing off the pedal as if my body already knew what my mind was still struggling to process.Beside me, Anton sat quietly, staring straight ahead. He hadn’t said much since we left the house. Honestly, neither had I. There were too many thoughts crowded inside my head, all fighting for space. As we got closer to the entrance, I cleared my throat.“Anton,” I said.He turned to look at me, calm as ever—too calm, considering everything that had happened.“I think you should go in first,” I continued. “It would be… weird if people saw us arriving together.”He studied my face for a moment, then sighed softly. “Yeah,” he said. “I get it.”For a second, I thought he might argue. Or ask why. Or look hurt.He didn’t.Instead, he nodded. “Thank you,” he added quietly. He opened the door, stepped out of the car, and shut it behind him. I watched as

  • The Moon's Chosen    CHAPTER 69

KIRA’S POVThe room fell into silence again...the kind of silence that pressed down on my chest and made my heart pound in my ears. Time seemed to stretch, every second heavier than the last. I watched Anton stand there, calm, his presence still radiating that impossible power, while Alec slowly dusted off his clothes. His eyes snapped toward Anton, burning with anger. “You… you don’t even realize what you’ve done,” he hissed, his voice low and almost scary if not for the fact that he had just been humiliated a moment ago. His jaw clenched so tightly I thought it might snap. “Do you have any idea what you just got yourself into by daring to lay a hand on me? On an Alpha?”Anton didn’t flinch. He simply met Alec’s gaze—steady, controlled—but I could feel the tension coiling in the room like a live wire.Alec stepped closer, fists clenched, his voice rising. “You think you can come into my territory and throw me around? You think I’ll just let that slide? You’ll pay. I promise you that

  • The Moon's Chosen    CHAPTER 68

KIRA’S POVAlec’s eyes didn’t leave Anton, but the shock in them was quickly replaced by something darker... Rage. Pure, unrestrained rage. His jaw clenched, and I could see the veins in his neck throb under his skin. For a moment, I thought he might lunge again.“You—how dare you—” Alec hissed, teeth bared. His voice shook, but it wasn’t weak. It was dangerous. The kind of anger that promised violence.Anton didn’t move...didn’t flinch. He just stood there, tall, calm, still, like a mountain. And yet, I could feel it—the tension in the air, heavy and humming, like the quiet before a storm.“You’re underestimating me,” Alec spat, finally shaking off the initial shock. “Do you think just because you’re standing there, I’ll let you disrespect me in my territory?”“I'm not here to disrespect you,” Anton said evenly, his voice calm. “I'm here to protect her. Step back, or you would regret it.”I swallowed hard. My heart was hammering, and I felt the heat of the room pressing down on me. I

KIRA’S POV.Alec’s expression hardened in a way I knew too well.“This is exactly why you can’t be trusted,” he snapped at me. “Reckless. Stubborn. Self-centered, disrespectful! Always thinking you know better than everyone else. Always making doing whatever you want without thinking about how it affects anyone else. What is wrong with you, Kira?! If your parents were here right now, I wonder what they would have thought of their precious little girl.”The words hit hard, but I refused to shrink. I refused to show it to him. I refused to let him see how much his words affected me.I straightened, my spine stiffening. “You don’t get to speak to me like that. And you better leave my parents out of this if you know what is good for you, Alec.”Alec let out a harsh laugh. “I’m the Alpha. I’ll speak to you however I want, Kira, especially since you've chosen to disrespect me at every damn turn!”His voice rose, echoing off the walls of my house. My house. “You put this pack at risk. You al

  • The Moon's Chosen    CHAPTER 66

KIRA'S POVI woke up slowly, my body heavy and stiff, like I hadn’t slept properly at all.For a few seconds, nothing made sense. The ceiling above me wasn’t mine. The smell in the air wasn’t my bedroom. Confusion wrapped around my thoughts, thick and slow, until memory finally pushed through.I was on the couch.A pillow was tucked under my head, and a blanket was pulled around my shoulders. I frowned and pushed myself up, the fabric sliding down my arms. Why was I on the couch? Then it hit me.Anton. I remember we were out here talking last night, and then at some point, I fell asleep. My heart skipped. I looked around the living room quickly, my eyes scanning every corner. The lights were off. The room was quiet. Too quiet. If I had slept here… where was Anton?I sat up fully, my frown deepening. There was no sign of him. No boots by the door. No jacket tossed over a chair. No sound of movement anywhere in the house.Worry crept in, sharp and sudden.“Anton?” I called softly.Nothi
